Yeah, my shoes are wore the hell out and I need to get new ones. What i want is the HD Trooper boots but i don't wanna pay the 150 for em. It's kinda high if you ask me. I want the zip up side so I don't have to spend 20 minutes lacing up the sides. So. My question. What alternative are there out there? I don't want ebay unless i have to since it's a boot. Plus, all they have on there are the logger boots and they are arn't my first choice, but if all else fails, i get em. I want a light, side zip boot so I can where them alot.

Check Mason Shoes. $109 for the type you are looking for.

I have the ones in the middle of the photo. These are Milwaukee's Best boots and I think they actually make the HD ones.

www.zappos.com is great for shoes. free delivery, and they usually show up within 2 or 3 days. My HD boots are close to the 601231 in the picture above. Love em...they have been super comfortable since the day I bought them.

Aren't the H-D boots made by Georgia Boot? I had a sales gal at the dealer tell me I'd be better off to buy the Georgia Boot brand and save some $$$ for chrome.

randrum,

I believe the style of boots you're looking for are called paratrooper boots. Go to your local army surplus store and see what they have. A good pair is still going to run you $100+.

Thank for the great replies. I'll take a look at the sites.

AZbiker, Your right. They are the Trooper Boot that goes for 152 off the harley site.

You think the army store would have those with the side that zips up? All i could ever find that I halfway liked were quick laces. Thanks again!

The OL bought these for me from leatherup.com, when she showed me the pic, I didn't like them, but they look better on and they are damn comfortable. Then when I asked where she got them, I looked at thier website and was impressed as well. Good prices, fairly quick shipping (Fed-Ex). Not a bad place to buy boots, have never tried any Xelement leather products though. Can't comment, but would like to hear some.

My Red Wing 607 (http://www.redwingshoes.com/shoe-zoom.cfm?style=607) boots are absolutely the most comfortable and durable boots I've ever owned. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny. I've worn them pretty much every day for over 3 years, the soles aren't maybe but about 1/2 worn out, and the uppers are still in great shape.

Not everyone's choice in style, and some like a little taller boot, but they have a wide selection.

That is good info as well. Part the worries me is they also own K-Mart now.... Strange.... They have the good and the bad and are UGLY to customers. I'll look online and see if i can find a link.

I bought my Doc martens from zappos. The stly I got does not have a zipper, but I nly unlace the top holes, so it dosen't take much time to lace up. The thing I love most about them is the air soles help to absorb a lot of the vibes in the pegs (I have a solid mount). They also repel oil, so if you happen to step in some at a light, they don't get slippery for the rest of the day. I just tie the laces in double knots so there is no chance for the laces to get caught in anything.

You could get the "official" jump boot aka conchran 1's, the surplus stores usually have the lace in zipper that you can purchase seperately.:)

These look like the boots I have. Mine are US Government surplus. I bought them for $10 on eBay. They were used but in great shape. I actually prefer laces because I can get them tighter. I just pull my jeans down over the tops to cover them.

You can add zippers to laced up boots similar to this:

http://www.nexternal.com/armynavy/images/zip1.jpg

Just search tne net for 'boot zippers' and it will give you several merchants.

I purchased HD Faded Glory boots from bootbay.com-they were $87.00 shipped at the time. Leatherup also has good prices.

They work very well for my mid-controls. I tried them with forwards on a friend's bike and I think I would go for a flatter sole if I had forwards.

The boots are built well and look great IMO. Not the best to walk around all day (you could easily fix that with an insert), but I would rather be out and riding anyway! They are made by Wolverine.

Lots of great ideas here. I also use Red Wing boots (a little pricey) but excellent quailty, guarantee, and comfort. I bought the lightest weight, over ankle work boot I could get. I would like a pair of riding boots only, and low and behold, the subject appears on a thread, with lots of good links. Probably want either a harness or engineer style myself. Just had the RW's repaired free of charge, but I sure missed them while ridin. Took em a week to repair!

I also have the HD Faded Glory boots - I really like them, they hold up good and are very comfortable. I'm not crazy about the style though - O prefer the harness boot look.

Does anyone know of a harness boot (at least 8") that will work well with rearsets???

When I was in, Cochrans were the Jump Boot of choice for the Airborne Guys. You won't find them in an Army Surplus Store. I don't know if they even make them any more. Looks like the Army uses a wider variety of footwear these days.
