View Full Version : Discount prices on Motorclothes???
Monstermile 12th October 2005, 00:31 I was in my local dealer and found a leather riding jacket that I really like. I'm not usually into buying higher priced HD stuff but this jacket was very comfortable and durable at the same time. A hard quality to find in a leather jacket. I just can't constitute $430. So does anyone know of any place online that discounts Genuine Motorclothes?? I really nead new leathers but not that much.
Moker 12th October 2005, 00:35 do what i do.
go in and flirt with the sales girls.
i got one to gimme deals on stuff i buy.
she get's it for half off and sells it to me for a little more.
tonyhds 12th October 2005, 00:53 Don't know if you can get the same type of discount on Motor Clothes as you can for parts from Zanotti online, but its sure worth a try.
Let us know.
smoke 12th October 2005, 00:55 I am too ugly to flirt, so I made drinking pals with some of the guys in service. When I need something, I give him the cash and he buys it like he is buying it for himself. They get cost+10%, which, like Moker said, is about 50%. Cost me a lot in beer, but I would spend that anyway. Problem is, he can't get too much or they get awfully suspicious, as he rides a BT. But, for the occasional HD (high dollar) item, it helps.
merc 12th October 2005, 00:57 ouch 430 big ones..
go to ebay and get a leather jacket for 50 bucks.
that's a discount

Thought of that and tried it. No dice.
xlhflh 12th October 2005, 01:40 If you want genuine HD Motorclothes then I think you are stuck with using dealers. You can search google for dealer closeouts. I just got a heavy duty, American Made, high quality perforated leather jacket from Taylor Leather. They make a lot of police gear. It was a closeout - retails for $480, got it for $199. Bought it on Monday and was wearing it on Thursday. www.ourleathershop.com
Good Luck

I am too, they just are glad someone talks to them and generally isn't an arsehole to them. They've told me some horror stories of customers.
xena 12th October 2005, 04:23 Moker thats a slick trick you've got going one there. Good job.
Chicago Harley has good discounts. Sometimes they offer 25% off. I got one of my leathers from them - a $360 jacket and I scored it for 270 on sale.
Monstermile 12th October 2005, 04:39 Yeah I just checked Chicago Harley. They have the one I want for $360 from the regular $450. And the one my g/f liked is $296 from the regular $370. Very tempting but I dunno if I want to shell out that much for leathers. Guess it wouldn't be that bad considering leather jackets last a long time and don't really go out if style. The one I have now is a riding jacket I got from Wilsons a few years ago. It is very heavy and constricting. I just don't like wearing it.
kjwrad 12th October 2005, 04:53 Every time I go to Triple S Harley in Morgantown WV. and flirt with the girls the wife slaps the crap out of me. No discount and cut off !!!

Loudpipes,
Did you get your jacket yet? If (or when) you do, could you please tell us if you think it's a good jacket? Heavy weight, etc.? Thanks.

Padre 21st October 2005, 03:18 Great! I think I'm gonna' order one.
Was the fit correct, or should I go up in size?
Kev M 21st October 2005, 12:48 I don't want to get all safety Nazi on this conversation so I'll say it and bow out... but with the exception of paying for a designer name-tag you GET what you PAY FOR...
HD stuff may be a bit pricey, BUT the company has a reputation to protect (and lawyers who remind them too) so you know you're gonna get a high quality product that is gonna hold up.
same goes for dedicated motorcycle gear companies like Firstgear, Hein Gerike, Joe Rocket etc.
same IS NOT true for most products from "designer" leather store like Wilsons... or for flea market leather stuff...
Even heavy hide is USELESS if the stiching comes undone, and still leaves ya with some rash if it rides up.
A few inconspicuous pieces of body armor (like elbows and shoulders) can also seriously help lesson injury in the unlikely and unhappy event of an off.
Not to mention jackets that are TRULY designed for motorcyling have a lot of other features like zip in/out linings, wind blocking flaps, collars that zip up or anchor out of your way, VENTS etc.
Me, I'm a textile guy.
I gave away my good Harley leather jacket to a friend some 5-6 years ago... still have a nice Hein Gerike but it almost NEVER sees the light of day. I started wearing an Aerostich jacket more than a decade ago and it still fits, is still waterproof and is comfortable from 20-90 degrees... It's the only jacket I need for all seasons and ALL weather!
Harley finally woke up a couple of years ago and makes a few decent textile jackets... I think the one I like is called the FXRG or something, though I thought there was also a leather version.
But that's just me, do what you want.
Kev
Padre 21st October 2005, 17:09 Thanks Kev. I'm a newbie, and saving a $$ here or there sometimes makes me want to do things the "quick" way.
I know you are right. It has been proven to me time after time in my lifetime.
So, I'll wait, unless I just can't pass up that HD Shovelhead jacket I found for a really good price! :D

Don't get me wrong, you CAN get a decent motorcycle jacket for reasonable $$$
try
www.newenough.com
they've got closeouts and other good deals from reputable companies.
Also, check out your local shops (not just HD), IF you think you might like textile, a lot of decent jackets sell in the $150 range (some even a little less).
Of course, the cheaper they are the more likely they're imported IF that matters to you.
My $400 Aerostich (which looks European as all hell cause you MOSTLY see BMW guys in em) was made here in the US, and I like that.
And like I said, I've had it for more than a decade....
My wife has both a Tecknic jacket which she got from a dealer who was going out of business for like $60... (I think it was normally $180) AND she's got a Joe Rocket Alter-Ego jacket she just picked up for, uhh, I forget $200 ish... the later has a waterproof liner, a mesh inner shell which carries the body armor (elbow pads, shoulder pads and back protector) AND a windproof outer shell... the inner and outer shells remove for total free-flow of air in the summer. She loves it.
Anyway, you'll find something you like, leather or textile... no worries.
Kev
Kev M 21st October 2005, 17:30 Here, I know the name sucks and a lot of their stuff looks a little ricky-racer... BUTTTTT it's good to know what's out there.
I spent years finding the right gear and when all was said and done I coulda saved a lot of time and money and hassle if I'd just bought the right stuff (for me) first.
Like I said, Jenn has an Alter Ego jacket... bitch, I woulda thought about buying one, but she got the only color I'd like and there is no freakin' way we're gonna match, now THAT would be GHAY....
