2000 Blast...unsure how many miles. Girlfriend told me that an ex had fooled with the bike prior to disabling the odometer (I believe that's illegal, right?) and I have lighting on the guage, but no speed indication nor do I click off miles, though they are displayed from when it last worked. I found a loose blue and black pair of wires sitting near the wiring that's behind the wind deflector; they have some sort of black connector attached to them, but nothing plugged into them. I looked at the harness on the back of the speedo and followed the wires into the bike's main harness. All wires seem to be there. Next, I noted a little black box (only a P/N on it, no other labeling to include manufacturer name) that is plugged in-line where the speedo wires (three of them) show back up under the seat. If you remove the box and hook both connectors up (bypassing the box) nothing changes. Any suggestions here? I was trying to avoid tracing wires with a multimeter...some are pretty hard to trace. I have the service manual with electrical diagrams in it, but I am a bit afraid to mess with some of the stuff since it's not my bike (girlfriend owns it, and I'm limited on experience with bikes in general). Thanks, all. :dunno

I'm not too familiar with the Buells but if the speedo and odo are electronic then there has to be a VSS (vehicle speed sensor).... this is either built into one of the wheel hubs(usually front) or at the output of the trans...... look there for an unpluged connector...... also make sure he didn't just pull a fuse out.

my Sporty did something similar. It ended up being the ignition switch. Try wiggling the key around and see what happens, but it is most likely the wires, or sensor, as stated above.

yep, this could be caused by a bad ignition switch.......I was just assuming this condition was an intentional act to alter the miles recorded.......

Yes, this was an intentional alter of the wiring or something, though I'm not sure what the guy did. Otherwise, it's electronic, the speed sensor's plugged in/present. Funny that you mention the ignition switch, as I'm having trouble with the switch keeping the lights on when in the 'run' position. I have to wiggle the key around at the 'run' position to get the lights on the gauge/headlight/tail light to stay on. The needle jumps a little when it's powered up, the backlighting comes on, 'N' and oil lights illuminate, but mess with the switch and it goes out. Maybe it's a bad cluster, but I'm not sure yet. I will just start with the ignition switch since I know it's faulty anyway. As far as the fuses go, they're all present except one spare and they're the correct type. None are burnt, either. Thanks for the help, and I'll let you know how it goes. Take it easy...

Oh, anyone on the forums know of a good online site to get OEM stuff at a fair/chep price for Buells? Thanks.

Any takers? I've got a drive ahead of me if I don't get something online. I'll keep looking for now, but please let me know if anyone has a clue on this.

Nevermind...found someone online, so thanks for the previous help.
