Any thoughts on whether or not I should use gasket goop when putting my top end back together to help hold the gaskets in place while instaling them and prevent any tears or other disasters? Thanks in advance :)

Are you talking about RTV or gasket dressing?

goop will only put another bump on your effort to seal your gaskets. With careful planning you should be able to plant a gasket without the need for goop/ Again IMHO & experience.

The only ones that can be difficult to keep in place are the upper rocker cover gaskets, and I find a light smear of grease helps hold them while you fit the covers. I wouldn't bother with gasket sealant/dressing.
