A guy I know is selling a set of wheels (19" and 16") for a sportster. Will they fit my 2004 if they were supposed to fit an earlier model (i.e. '91 up)? I wasn't sure if the width of the wheel changed with the tire in 2004.

The short answer is, no.

The 1991 uses packable wheel bearings, yours are the sealed bearings, the brakle disc's are different, and i beleive the axle size is different.

Not sure, do they have the seal wheel bearings in the hubs? Any pictures?

Stock front is 19x2.15
Stock rear is 16x3

If he has an 04' axle size is still the same both front and rear. In 05' HD changed the rear axle from a 3/4" to a full 1" axle. Still would like to see the pics.

86 - 99 wheels have some similiarities and can be made to fit other years in that range. 2000 - 2004 same idea. Putting a 91 on a 2004 requires different hubs, brake rotors etc.

If you have enough money, skill, etc. anything can be made to fit but on this one you could go out and buy a set of custom wheel for cheaper than retrofitting the old ones.

So if they use sealed wheel bearing then they should fit? I have no idea how old of a bike they're supposed to fit, so they could have either.
