Going to change the air filter soon.

I read somewhere that the SC air filters were the best bang for the buck, but I like the look of the S&S cleaner cover... just don't know enough about it to make a choice.

Anyone using the S&S and if so I'd love to hear your thoughts on the differences between the two as far as performance?

Thanks.

From personal experience... And personal opinion... That's My Opinion, don't want to start a war... The S&S is Better. My Wifes scoot had the SC when we bought it.... I had a spare S&S style AC w/ a K&N filter. Put it on her scoot for kicks and giggles... More botttom end, no loss up top.... Gas milage increased....Better looking too....

I was amazed to see that S&S offers a Teardrop Air Cleaner kit for the 2004 and up Sportsters. The S&S Part# is: 17-0117 It's $188 from Drag Specialties Part# is: DS-289410.
If you go to http://www.discountcycleparts.com/xcart/customer/search.php?part_number=DS289410 and enter the Drag Specialties Part# you can get it for $155.64.

See the S&S Catalog Below on page 22:

Checked out the S&S catalogue link that mordak posted and noticed that they offer a a/c, slip-on, jet kit for the Sporty. Wondering if anybody has installed this and if so, what the results were. Off the top, it sounds like a good way to go, getting a matched set of components.

I like that idea. I have the SE setup with the replaced filter but still looking for something else. I got a round cover from a low rider but undecided what to get next. I heard a set of Vance and Hines pipes so the SE cover may stay till i get pipes.

True but there's just something sweet and nostalgic about the tear drop S&S A/C cover.

My S&S performs a lot better than a K&N in the ham can I could not believe the difference. I picked up a little leg room and it looks awesome.

What else is needed to do the swap? I've got an S&S sitting in the garage and was thinking of buying the Ness Big Sucker. Should I bother with the purchase?? How would the vents workout???

Get a forcewinder if you like the style, stay away from the SE's, they don't last very long and fall apart.

Get whatever ya like that suits the look you want.

The only thing I would advise against is the SE. Just do a little search of this site and you will find tons of people who have had trouble with the SE.

THat S&S deal Mordak posted is pretty sweet. I got a Ness Big Sucker for 89 bucks, and a HD BT can for 25.00, but it should have been 70.00. That's about the same price as the S&S setup.

The S&S is really nice.....

SG,
I've been looking at the Ness BS A/C also. Is it a pretty easy install? Any 'gotchas' :doh to look out for???

Does the S&S include a breather? The kit shows a long rubber tube.

It has been so trouble free that I even moved it to my new 06 1200R that I'm picking up today. I know there are many who disagree but I have no complaints.:wonderlan

Tick. The S&S ac kit does come with a breather hose/banjo bolt set up. I have mine going into the back plate.

I think it would be fair to specifiy which SE AC folks are having issues with. There is more than one. I have the round SE with K&N HD-600 element. It performs and looks great, and is built like a tank.

I think it was just the '04+ after Harley discontinued the SE ham can fitting K&N filters. My '03 K&N works great too (but could use a breather)... I just really dislike the ham can look.

Bad Ass look for sure. I'm using the the filter S &S provides with the tear drop cover and breather kit.
