Just got the wife a 1998 883 hugger, and already have a post started about changing out the buckhorns for apes........Now she has a question about the pipes on her bike.
It has regular Screaming eagles, and she want's to know the difference between the Screaming eagles, and the SEII, if they are louder, or what the major differences are between the 2. I told her to quit asking so many questions, and just ride the darn thing, but she can be a bit strong-willed (understatement :laugh )
thanks, bud 095
BTW--she would like it louder, but doesn't want the drag pipes like I have...

The Screamin Eagle mufflers have more baffling in them, they are a bit quieter in the process becuase of it. The SE's will probably give a bit better low end torque while restricting top end hp.
The SE II's are a more open muffler with less baffling, and are a bit "louder". The SE II's will probably give better top end performance with a bit less bottom end torque.

just for reference here the old screamin eagle slip-ons used to be made by cycle shack and are louder than the current screamin eagle IIs as the cycle shacks don't use any fiberglass....just in case you are looking at used slip-ons or something :D ...if you are looking for a "louder" slip-on that doesn't cost money then you can just get the cycle shacks...for her bike they are only about $93 including shipping if I recall correctly from Jireh cycle
I have run both of them side by side CS on my bike and SEIIs on my wife's bike and I prefer the CS myself...but sound quality is such a personal thing that this statement shouldn't mean much to you!

Didn't know that --have no idea how old these pipes are--they sound pretty 'healthly'. I know the SEII I had on my ride before I got the drags got somewhat louder with age, so maybe the same will apply with her bike also--like I said before this is a 98 883 hugger with about 12K on it, so she'll run it awhile, and go from there.
One project at a time, I keep telling her, but you know how that can be.......
Thanks again bud095

yep, I agree with you, I think they use fiberglass in there and like the old glasspacks they can get "blown out" as time goes by and get louder...her's were definately louder after a couple of seasons of riding...of course now we have changed them out to cycle shack muffled pipes but that's another story :D
