I am thinking about getting the Memphis shade detachable windshield instead of the Harley one. It is the one that looks like the Harley Compact windshield. It is over $100 cheaper then the Harley one but I am concerned about the quality compared to the Harley one.

Memphis Shades are top quality shields. You won't even be able to tell the difference...trust me. I had a Memphis Fats on my last bike and on my Sporty. I have a Memphis Slims on my current bike.

I have the Memphis Shades sportshield with what they call the quick detach hardware and I like it. Really good quality. You need an allen wrench to take it off/put it on, but it's a quick and easy job. Only takes 2 minutes or less.

I bought the harley quick detach.
This is my first bike and I didn't know better.
Knowing what I know now, I'd buy a memphis shade in a heartbeat.

Thanks everyone! I think I am going to order it. I can get it on ebay for $175 and the same guy has 11" Progressive shocks for $179. I don't really need to lower it since I am 6'3" but It looks cool. Next will be the seat and then the Ape Hangers.

Try Phatperformanceparts.com. I think Xena uses them and that's where I got mine. Mine was just a couple bucks more than the $175 you mention, but you are dealing with a real company. I've been to their store and they are great to deal with.

When removed, does the memphis shades leave any hardware still attached?

Yes it does. Four clamps on the forks. Unobtrusive, though.

NOT MINE !!! The clamps come right off, one allen screw on each clamp and the clamp comes in half and comes completely off.

I wouldn't want to do that as it was a pain in the ass to get them mounted perfectly. I don't think those clamps are intended to come off. It would turn the windshield into a "not quite so quick release" windshield then!

I'm with Ken Man Do, I leave the little clamps on the forks because it was a pita to get them set in the right place for my needs. Ya don't even notice em anyway, they're just small clamps not big wings hanging off the bike or anything.

I installed the Memphis Fats before a 1500 mile trip back in August. I wanted a full size windshield, somethig that would offer the protection a windshield is supposed to give. Surprisingly it doesn't look out of place, it doesn't look like you borrowed something off a Road King. I'm pleased with the quality. I haven't owned the H-D windshield so I can't give an opinion on that windshield.
I made my purchase from West End Motorsports, same place I bought the Mustang seat. Good company to deal with, prompt shipping (free on orders over $95) and no surprises.
