View Full Version : 03 and down Carbon Fiber Air Cleaner cover?
relayer4u 20th October 2005, 02:39 Am I the only person that is lusting for a Buell style carbon fiber ham can cover?
Let's see if we can get a group of perspective customers together and make it "doo-able" for one of the vendors...
;)
higgins14 21st October 2005, 23:57 i'm interested in any carbon fiber for my sportster. especially a headlight fairing.
Desertfox 22nd October 2005, 00:03 Didn't know Buell had a ham can type breather. The breather box is where the gas tank traditionally is. Wouldn't work too well on a Sporty. In fact there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on a Buell that will work on a Sporty.
AeroSport 22nd October 2005, 02:24 Hey relay,
I wanted a carbon fiber a/c cover, but a round one smaller than the ham can, our local HD dealer has one on a Buell racing bike they have on display but no one seems to know where it came from.
marco883 22nd October 2005, 03:07 I'd go for a C/F ham can! Will the Buell have the same mounting hole spacing to fit the SE backing plate? The Buell C/F race covers for tube frames appear to have the mounting screw holes closer together? I'm thinking about moving my air cleaner forward by modifying the backing plate to have knee room since I got rear sets. A C/F cover will be cool!

The Buell S2 had a sporty pattern carbon fiber air cleaner cover stock. From a bit of research, seems like a replica is going to be over $100 a pop. So lets call this one of those great ideas that cost too damn much to prursue...Still...a great looking part!
AZbiker 25th October 2005, 07:22 Has anyone tried Airtech? They make really nice bodywork and I imagine their CF stuff is pretty nice too.
Here is the link:

It appears that they even make more than one shape to fit the stock hamcan bolt pattern, I think that's what the right hand picture is.
Here's their price list, I think the CF hamcan is $72.45! A whole lot less than $100! I wonder if they would be receptive to a group buy--I bet they would.

I'd be interested in a group buy if price is right, $72.45 ain't bad tho.

Older Buell’s, back when they were actually Sportster motors… I believe the first ones had traditional pre 03 Sportster ham cam covers, later they were offset, later they were gone.
BTW Air-tech NEEDS a new web site…

Seems like that price is for the fiberglass version, check it out:

I got lucky and scored a S2 cover on ebay. I'll post a picture when I get it in my hands.

It appears that you are correct. I thought it was too good to be true. :(
I wouldn't say that quoting the price on one product and showing another was dishonest, but that's not the way I would chose to do business.
They at least ought to put a disclaimer like, "All pieces shown are carbon fiber. All prices quoted are for the fiberglass part. Please give our sales reps a call to find out the CF price."
I wonder how much the CF stuff is.

Are you using a standard or offset backing plate? Either way gonna look cool.

I got the standard one, 'cause my knees can't do rear-sets any more!
NRHS Sales 15th December 2005, 16:50 You all realize that we sell a complete Hurricane flow 3 inch offset carbon fiber air cleaner set-up that will work on 03 and below Sportsters right? Includes our billet aluminum backplate, 3 in K&N filter and carbon fiber offset cover as well as all the mounting hardware.
Our normal retail price is $275. If you guys can organize a group buy for 5 or more I would let them go for $240 each.
bplinson 15th December 2005, 17:20 Dan,
Would you guys sell just the cover as a group buy?
NRHS Sales 15th December 2005, 20:13 Bert,
The cover is the offset bolt design like the old Buell race kit style so by itself it would be kind of useless. If we had enough interest we might be able to get the Sportster style bolt pattern done by our manufacturer. I am guessing the price would be about $120.
aswracing 15th December 2005, 20:15 http://www.nrhsperformance.com/images/m2hurricaneflow.jpg
The cover screw holes aren't on center, so you need the HurricaneFlow back plate to match.
Also, as this air cleaner is made for Buells, it sticks out more and tilts down slightly. But we could do a special Sportster configuration if there was enough interest. Could even do'em with a 2" element.
bplinson 15th December 2005, 20:53 I would definately be interested.

Count me in for the Sporty pattern cover, the one I got on ebay is a bit faded and nicked up. Already have your HF filter kit...great product!

bplinson 16th December 2005, 07:34 I will make another thread for this with a poll to see how many people are interested in a Carbon Fiber AC Cover.
bplinson 16th December 2005, 07:42 Dan, would it also be possible to prouce a cover for the 04 and above Sportsters also?

I'll watch for the new thread. I'd go for a CF cover with standard Sporty bolt pattern and 2" element. I made my own offset backing plate, didn't know they were commercially available.
bplinson 16th December 2005, 08:47 I will give Dan a call tonight and see if I can get some details together.
NRHS Sales 20th December 2005, 19:00 I spoke with our carbon fiber manufacturer and they can make us the 03 and below Sporty covers in carbon fiber. It will take about a month to tool up and then they should be ready to sell. Price will be $120 for just the cover. A complete Hurricane Flow 2" air cleaner package with a carbon fiber cover will be $254.95. If a group buy of at least 5 can be organized I will sell the covers for $105 and the complete air cleaners for $229.95
