Are you suffering from PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome)? What are you doing to get thru the winter blues?

In the far west burbs of Chicago I have another "snow day" (I'm a teacher and my school is closed), and I'm really getting the itch to ride! With 12" of fresh snow that isn't going to happen. I've read all my motorcycle magazines, spent a small fortune on Ebay on toy's for my Sporty; if I spend any more my wife is going to make me sleep in an igloo!

What do you do to get thru a bad case of PMS??? :sporty:

Yea, I suited up yesterday and went for a ride. It was a short ride because it was 27°F. But, I fell much better now.

Well its really easy for me right now, My harley and I got in to a fight in a corner, I wanted to go fast and she didn't, So she slid and I went with her, So since its in the shop getting put back together its easy, The bike will be done in a week or 2...finally,Happened the day before thanksgiving, So on thanksgiving I was thankful to be alive, But last winter I would go out and just wax her and polish all of the chrome, start it up and listen to it for about an hour, or take it out for a quick spin when it was not raining or snowing, If you cant wait then but some dirt bike tires, put some bolts with a small head on it and go riding, I did that one winter about 5 years ago when my truck took a crap, Belive it or not that worked great, it was studded snow tires, just like the ice arena racers, That only worked in the ice and snow, Id take the bolts out for driveing in normal weather

I used to do that too.....it was alot of fun! I used to have an old Rupp Nitro, then moved onto a Polaris TX440. Harley (or should I say AMF) even made snowmobiles too.

I used to get like that when I first started riding.(30 years ago). Maybe I'm more patient than I used to be...But I can wait till spring..Got a lot of winter chores to get done anyway, Come summer, nothing gets done:laugh except playtime

I'm getting through the winter blues by finally doing some serious mods to the bike :-) The nice days don't suck as much when i don't have working turn signals, or any controls on the bike :-) It's going to make spring tha tmuch sweeter!

I just took something for that; about 39 miles worth. Went to the dealer and yakked with some old and new friends. Sat on the new Cross Bones, seat springs handled my weight. Saw a good job of a cafe-Sporty w/an S&S engine. Hope to get some pix of it in email from one of the salesman. Looked at the mirrors w/LEDs in them. They had both black and chrome versions. Tried to find a pair of the H-D kevlar jeans, but they only had up to size 38 and I take a 44.

As you can see, I immersed myself in Harley for a few hours. I hope to get some more this Tuesday (temp of 74 and cloudy) during my lunch 3 1/2 hours. Going to go to my Mom's house and show the insides to a prospective buyer. That'll be another 40 or more miles. Maybe I'll take a long cut back home and add some extra.

Agreed, even on the somewhat iffy temp days, if it hasn't rained since they salted, I'm hesitant about taking the bikes out. If I do, I always do a complete wash before putting them back into storage.

I don't mind the salt as long as it's dry and the cold doesn't bother me, but all this snow and slush just makes it uncomfortable and dangerous. :frownthre

According to the good book written by Harley it's sacrilege to ride a Harley when there is road salt. Is it ok for me to take my wifes Honda Rebel out for a ride??

If the snow and ice keeps up, I'm going to need a 12 step program to get through "riding withdrawal"!! :headbang

I'm Cured!!! Yesterday it was nice, warm (mid 50's), and sunny! I took my Sporty for a nice long ride, and all is great with the world again.

Heck, all Dr. Phil needs to do is recommend a Sporty to his patients and they would feel better!! (Ok, a stretch, but everyone on the forum knows that riding their Sporty makes them feel better!!) :tour

+1! This is the first winter in many that I didn't have to deal with motorcycle withdrawals, and it's because I bought a snowmobile.

I thought about a sled too, but I'm a bit skeptical that we'll have many nice snowy winters like this one. Usually, It doesn't snow enough to go sledding until mid January into February and the trails are trashed w/in a few days.:frownthre
