View Full Version : Speedbleeders
bplinson 23rd October 2005, 16:12 Does anyone use them? Seems as though they would make the job of brake bleeding much easier and less messy.
Here is a link to see them: http://www.speedbleeder.com/
cleger 23rd October 2005, 17:04 Get them Bert. They're a great product.
Our front dual brake line set up has a line going up and down over the front wheel, and speed bleeders make the job much, much faster. I also have a vaccuum bleeder, and the speed bleeders work better.
Best regards,
bplinson 23rd October 2005, 17:06 Would you happen to know which size fits the 02 Sportster?
bshadbolt 23rd October 2005, 17:41 Their website says SB3824 for all sporties - this is 3/8" 24 pitch thread from what I can see.
They sound good, might try them myself.
Cheers,
Brett
cantolina 23rd October 2005, 20:41 I like mine...haven't had an issue with them yet...
xllent01 23rd October 2005, 22:55 Dot 5 has thousands of tiny air bubbles locked up inside of it, so
anything that would help speed up the process i say go for it.:D
Predator 23rd October 2005, 23:01 Thanks for the link Bert. A great idea.
TheTick 5th January 2006, 06:35 Will the speed bleeders also work with a vacuum like the Mighty Vac?
I have the speed bleeders installed, and I just changed my front brake line and so far pumping the brake hasn't built up any pressure. Any other suggestions to speed this process up?
Thanks

speed bleeders have a spring loaded ball which has to be unseated by fluid pressure to bleed. if you have too much air in system the air can compress before the pressure overcomes the spring. you will need to remove excess air. crack the line at caliper and let gravity bleed air out. when bubbles stop just tighten bolt again and start bleeding from speed bleeders.
i installed russel speed bleeders on my old elcamino when i redid my brakes and no one told me...
TheTick 6th January 2006, 05:29 Thanks for the info. Looks like I should have done a better search for info on the speed bleeders. Loosening the banjo nut helped get fluid thru, but didn't get rid of the air. I put the old valve back in. The vaccuum pump worked well (though I'm thinking of trying the reverse pump method next time using a syringe).
Yesterday I replaced my brake pads, than installed the speed bleeder, before installing the new brake line, and it seemed fine. Maybe I should have just installed the speed bleeder last.
Now that I have fluid in the line, should I bother reinstalling the speed bleeder to help remove any remaining air bubbles... or will the act of replacing the valve introduce more air?
lagerdrinker 6th January 2006, 05:49 let me get this straight. you pushed pistons in then installed new brake line? did fluid reservoir completely empty? if thats the case you have alot of air in system. speed bleeders work better for occasionally bleeding brakes. not initial bleeding. bleed your brakes with regular bleeders then install speed bleeders.
remember that new pads arent sitting perfectly flat to rotors thats why they need to be seated and will also cause a slightly spongy feel until they do. once they seat it you should try bleeding again. break in period should be done carefully. just heat cycle by accelerating and braking evenly a few times and let cool down. repeat this step a few times and you should be ok.
and dont overheat pads, will just warp and score rotors.
TheTick 6th January 2006, 06:08 Yes, pistons were in and new pads were gripping the rotor.
When I installed the brake line, I misunderstood the directions (they were poorly written) and did empty master cylinder. They recommend cleaning it out every two years, so I guess that works out :D
The lever was still very spongy after using the pump, but the brake was finally starting to work. I put the speed bleeder back in (didn't even take the resvoir cap back off). Couple of squeezes, no bubbles, and the lever has pressure again. Looks like I'm keeping the speed bleeders. Thanks for the help lagerdrinker.
lagerdrinker 6th January 2006, 06:12 they do work great after initial install/bleeding. be safe
Deimus 6th January 2006, 08:09 Thanks for the link Bert. I read up on the info and my speed bleeders have been ordered and should be on the way. The timing for this couldn't have been better. After installing my Mustang Daytripper seat my position was moved back just a little more. This was the last straw for the stock '05 1200C bars. After much research I've chosen my new bars and they are scheduled to arrive Monday. I will measure for my braided brake line and check the additional cable needs and place those orders next week. My speed bleeders are sure to arrive before I'm actually ready for them. :tour
benton 6th January 2006, 22:21 You can find some speedbleeders that fit at Autozone! These are great!

thunderpaw 15th January 2006, 14:13 Advanced has 'em too-under $10/pair.
Tucson_Tim 15th March 2006, 17:15 Selfish bump - gonna need this info too...
Vegas1200C 3rd June 2006, 09:37 I just got mine in the mail. SB3824 just like the chart says for XL 78-UP. They are way too big. I can't get the end into the hole. They must have changed the bleeder size for 04. Now I get to see what their return policy is like since I ordered it from their website.
Vegas1200C 12th June 2006, 22:24 I just got a response back. I originally used the webpage based reply and no one responded for a week so I sent them an email and got this back.
SB8125L, 8mm x 1.25, is the part number you need.
They put 2 in the mail for me so all should be well.

Same happened with me. Got the replacements real fast. And they told me to give the others to a bt friend. No use sending them back.

For a couple days I thought I would have to deal with returning them but then I thought about the safety issue. I'm sure there is no way legally they could sell them twice. At least I hope not.
What did you think of them?
bplinson 13th June 2006, 07:43 Sounds great. I need to get some on order soon.
ZanexGt 13th June 2006, 14:02 I've always thought about buying a set for the car. It's always a hassle having 2+ people arorund trying to bleed the brakes. I'd actually usually have 3 people. One on the brake pedal, one filling the resovoir, and one at the brake bleeder. By purchasing speed bleeders you can cut at least one of those people out of the equation. With all that I've read on how hard the sporty's are to bleed, I think I'm going to buy a set of speed bleeders!

Thanks for the PN...already ordered and should see them in a week or so. Been wanting to install these for some time.
...still learning
Wintersdark 19th June 2006, 00:45 I got mine fairly accidentally. When I first bought my box 'o sporty, the old bleeders were both stripped and seized into the calibers... Shop I went to didn't have any regular bleeders that would fit, only the speed bleeders, so that's the way I went. Cost my $30cdn for the pair - not as cheap as I'd like, but that's all there was and I didn't want to wait for the mail.
I'm glad I got them, though. They make brake bleeding so very easy. I'd never, ever go back.
hybriDatsun350 7th July 2006, 18:43 I may have to get me a set of these darn things now!!!
sycle1 1st February 2007, 04:40 I just ordered a set, what a great idea.
Thanks Bert

LDO 25th February 2007, 06:01 Pep Boys carries SOME sizes in their hlep isle for 9.99.
Bruce 22nd April 2007, 22:12 Just got a set and the one I put in front caliper was bad, would suck air backin. Haven't swaped yet to see if other one is bad.
cantolina 22nd April 2007, 23:05 Speedbleeders rock.....
No assistance (or monkey-arms) needed! :banana
PLANKEYE 27th April 2007, 01:00 I have a friend at work that swears by them, sounds like they are the real deal man.

ericfreeman 17th July 2007, 06:45 I just fitted Speedbleeders to my '78 Ironhead with twin front discs and discovered the bleeders just barely fit without hitting the fork sliders. There is not enough clearance to actually fit a hose and bleed the calipers though. But, by removing the top caliper mounting bolts you can tilt the calipers back just enough to fit the clear hose and loosen the bleeder. Works just fine now and the Speedbleeders made easy work out of my brake system overhaul.
