My '04 Custom is heading to the shop this weekend for a new chromed out front end, including lower forks, spacers, nut covers, etc. My question is, I live in Pennsylvania and all bikes are required to display an inspection sticker. It looks like most mechanics paste the sticker on the left side lower fork tube. After I get this done I'd rather not have them cover up my expensive chrome with an ugly sticker. I was wondering if there are alternative places to legally place the sticker....anyone know?

Are they required to place it on the fork? that may be a requirement, if not there are a ton of insp sticker plates out there, and you can pretty much put them any place with a bolt. Nice chrome ones too =D

I bought one of those little chrome sticker plates when I did my lowers also. It's the green sticker just behind my shifter in this pic:

Legality depends on how the law is written in your state. Ask your dealer and a few indies. Don't just ask one person though... my dealer for years wouldn't put the sticker on these plates because he thought it had to go on the plate. Last year he started doing it when he asked some Troopers they told him they don't care as long as it's in the left front somewhere.
I also went through a roadside inspection check just after putting the plate on. The local cop knew right where to look to find it and waived me through, no problems.

my harley dealership put mine on the left side of the frame just above the vlotage regulator when i had my forks done. i have heard of people getting harrased by the cops with those inspection tags unless they are tac welded to the bike and made permanent.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I'll ask around before I make a decision. I think a plate will be OK, at least I hope so.

are you doing the triple tree also? i just did my entire lower forks and the brake caliper cover as well and it looks good but the dealer told me not to waste the money on the forks and just use never dull. so i did and they came out great. looks almost like chrome, very shiny. if you got the triple tree done also can you send me a pic of it? because even though the never dull made my stock triple tree look great this little voice (the one that usually gets me in trouble) in the back of my head keeps telling me to get the chrome. which eventually i probably will. and i would like to see a pic of the chrome triple tree on the bike.

My 1200 Custom is in surgery as I type this. As far as my triple tree, yes it's already chromed. My dealer had an '05 Sporty sittin' on the floor all chromed out.....man, just beautiful, so I can't wait to see mine! I went the whole way and am also having the chrome master cylinder/brake housing, switch covers, levers and throttle, clutch and brake line braided stainless cables and lines installed. As far as the inspection sticker goes, they're going to pop rivet a stainless steel plate on my swing arm left side to mount the sticker.

:cool2 very cool. sounds nice. only main thing i really have left to chrome is the triple tree. that's probably coming soon and then braided cables and chrome 6 piston brakes.

My scoot had the inspection sticker on the little plate like Gary has when I bought it from the dealer (brand-new). I have heard the argument that it is only bolted on (non-permanent), but if it is good enough for the inspection mechanic at the dealer, it's good enough for me. I hate it when the stick 'em on the fork tubes!

I stopped in tonight to see my bike. WOW! They had to order the braided stainless throttle/idle cables, (they should be in Wednesday), but everything else was done....again, WOW!! It looks great. I had the bike inspected and the sticker now resides on a stainless steel plate riveted to the left side swingarm. You're gonna need sunglasses to look at my baby now! I'll clean her up and post some pictures when I can.
