View Full Version : The Dyna Connection continues..........

Hi all.

As you have seen in my posts, a couple Months back i made a funny in my signature about the sportster not being a Girl's bike but the Dyna was.

Of course this is not true(Or is it?) as i was ribbing Mr Berry67 for leaving the fold here and getting a new Dyna.

This joke was based on the Observation that i saw in my area, the more I look around to see what Girls were riding, the majority were on a Dyna.:tour

I like to go to the store and HOG rally's a rides, and i kept an Eye out for who was riding what, and in my very unscientific survey, here's what I have seen this summer season.
According to Harley, Girls make up 9 to now 10% of all domestic sales. i am sure the number is really higher, as they maybe missing couples that buy for the wife to ride, but for now, Girls that bought them for themselves add up to 10%

So one out of ten has a Girl who bought it, but what are they buying. From what I have seen, they are passing on the sporty and getting Dynas.
From what I have seen in this area, i see 1 girl for every 25 sportsters, but Dynas at some of the rides I went on, outnumbered the guys.
The usual was the Guy on a softtail/e-glide and the Girl and a Dyna.

I Have asked a couple of these Lady riders as to why they got a dyna, the answers were as varied as there owners, but the main points was smoother ride, easier to handle and the riding position.

The Sportster as we all know has a shorter wheel base and it's stiffer rake, the Sportster is made to handle fast and quick, wile it is a good thing for running the twisties it does have it shortcomings for long cruising rides.
The Dyna with it's longer frame and deeper rake will not handle like a sporty, and with almost 100 pounds more to it will ride smoother on long runs, it just won't run the twisties like a Sporty, but then again, it wasn't made to, it was made to cruise and glide through turns, not attact them.

So it is easy to see why Girls are flocking to the Dyna, but here's my question for you all.

Is it just the Northwest, or do you see the same trend where you live?

We tested Jeffytune's theory at the Harley Traveling Museum display in Oregon this past Saturday...I was surprised myself...please do an assessment at your next local event...it was like one female Sporty rider for every four to five Dyna female rider! If our survey proves correct...then WHO is riding a girl's bike? Hmmmm....we should've interviewed them and found out the philosophy of their choice! The mystery continues! We did see an awful lot of Sporties at this event...four pulled in together, and Jeffytune mentioned he had given two of them the xl forum website...where are they? We need to give Texas a run for their money! :D

HI again.

Ok, My Intent is not to slam anyones bike, or try to name one "the Offical Girls bike"(Really Berry)
So, please let us not delve into the whole overdone Girls bike thing, I am just trying to find out if what I am seeing here holds for the rest of the country.

So..................
If your a girl and happy on a Sportster, welcome to the fold
If your a girl and Happy on a Dyna, more power to ya.
If you a Guy and Happy on a Sportser, welcome to the club.
And If you a guy and happy on a Dyna,....well, I hear they have pills for that now.:banarasta :roflblack

Good lord I've never seen such a hullaballoo about nothing. Who cares what girls and boys are supposed to ride? What about other things in life? Imagine...what about tools? "Hey Joe that DeWalt saw is a girls saw...you should get a Milwaukee saw!" ... or cars... I see alot of women driving both Ford explorers and Chevy T-Blazers, so I couldn't decide which one was the "girls Truck" but what if I chose wrong, would that make me gay? I thought we were going to limit this line of thought to one and only one thread? The main problem I have with the notion is that it is said in derision...the implication that anything "girls" is inferior to the "boys" version of the same thing.

They missed that one with us... Jenn's Sporty was purchased for her, but I'm the one who got the $1k off coupon in the mail and it had to be registered in my name.

But that's 1 woman on a Sporty not a Dyna (though the Dyna was the one she WANTED first, though I don't think the same is true anymore).

The Sportster as we all know has a shorter wheel base and it's stiffer rake, the Sportster is made to handle fast and quick, wile it is a good thing for running the twisties it does have it shortcomings for long cruising rides.

You didn't specifically mention, but I'm sure you know it is part of the equation, the longer frame of the dyna is probably as much a determining factor on it's slower turning but greater comfort on long runs as the weight difference.

DUDE that is just wrong!!!! Do one of my bike too:)

I used to see more women on Sportsters around here but lately they are moving into the Dyna's and Softails as well. I really don't think it has anything to do with what bike is a girls bike and what one isn't. The Dyna definately has an edge over the sprortster when it come to comfort and long rides. NO ONE can argue that. I rode a Dyna SuperGlide about a year ago and that is one nice well rounded bike. Comfortable enough for longer rides and yet handles decent in the twisties. It has a lower center of gravity that the sportster and feels lighter when taking it off the side stand.

What I would love to do is buy a Black Dyna Low Rider and put drag bars, 21" laced front wheel, Solid read disc wheel, Thunderheader, Forcewinder.... well heck make it look like my sporty 'cept with the Dyna frame and Twin Cam engine.

Barry, more power to you, that is one Sweet Dyna.

From what I see locally most the girls have BT's. Low riders are real popular with the ladies. See a few on Sporty's but they don't usually keep them long before switching models. It appears they are rather affluent also because the bikes are usually loaded with lots of bling. I see more women on metrics than H-D's in my area though.

Well they !!!!!!!! you. HD has specific rates for buyers. Just like any other lending institution. It ranged from 5.99 for excellent credit(like my wife) down to questionable credit- 18.99 for those less fortunate.

It is strange to hear that because dealers earn bonus incentives to get people finaced through HD credit.
