Well.. After a couple years off and getting back on the scoot I noticed my skills were a bit rusty and decided to take the MSF course.
Little did I know how rusty they were. Didn't pass :cry1

I'm entirely self taught and I know I have some bad habbits I need to get rid of (one of the main reasons I wanted to take the class).
Just couldn't get past those damn cable drum brakes on my class bike. Too used to the hydrolics and disks on my sporty. So I completely biffed the stopping portion of the test.

Gonna be hitting some parking lots for some practice and head back out to take the test again though. On the bright side I did get my turning and swerving confidence back.

I know it's been said many times already but if you haven't done so. Take the class. I don't care how experienced you are. You WILL learn something.

I took the MSF course in Sept., it's well worth it. I also have some bad habits that I thought was right but now know better. It rained the whole weekend I took the course, and I passed. good luck on your next try..

Don't forget that there are the beginning riders course and the experienced rider course. taking the experienced course every couple of years is money well spent.

Good luck next time Kent

Took a refresher course in August and passed okay. I too had a lot of bad habits, gained since 1966. Kinda hard though when you're the old fart of the class. The other riders were all in their 20s, with the reflexes to match. All they wanted to do was get their license exemptions and go buy crouch rockets. Best way to pass is to take the course in the frame of mind of a newbe rider.

Yep.
Myself I could care less about the exception. Had my Class M1 for almost 10 years.
Although I did go out riding this past saturday, first time I've had a chance since the class (new baby in the house. Not much time for the scoot for a bit).

Noticed my riding improved tremendously! After the holiday weekend I'm going to go back to the class and take the test again (free pass to take it and I don't have to sit through class either). I talked to the instructor this weekend and he said if I REALLY still have a problem braking on their bike if they have time he might let me do the test on the sporty. Should make that braking portion MUCH easier.

This sounds like a course that can benefit anyone. Not to sound retarded, but where do I look to find out when one will be offered in my area?

I took the riders edge course back in April and I can't believe the amount of information I learned. I was 21 then and I was glad to get the exemption, yet i bought a 04 1200c and not a crotch rocket. I was also the youngest in the class by 9 years! I recommend the riders edge course to anybody no matter the age or exp.

Personally, I think every one wanting to ride should take the course before being allowed to get a license :soap

I took the course before buying my first bike in '93. Then i took an advanced riding course, at the beginnng of the season, 3 times. Then this year i took an advanced course again. Managed to pass, even tho i get real nervous or paniky during tests.

Ya, everybody should be required to take the course. OK, so now i'll get ragged out by all the freedom guys, eh?

I agree..
I wish I had taken this course 8 years ago when I bought my first bike.
Probobly would have been alot less painfull!
