Okay, so...I plan on paying the tax in the spring, should have the extra cash saved up. But I have a question. Since I have a 2006 with the catalytic converter addition will that change how I need to do the mods such as jetting or anything else that might have been added along with the converters that I don't know about?

My guess is that once the converters are off, the mods, jetting and so forth, can be done just like described here and on Sportster.org.

should be the same as my 05... change your pipes, a/c, and jetting...

I own a 2006 and I just did pipes ac and jetted with dyno-jet according to the instructions on Sportster.org the jets are 170 for the 1200 but when I opened mine up it said 185 so I went with the dyno-jet pins and mainjet, they don't do slow valve. as for catalytic converter, I found none and I looked so I dont know what they are talking about.

DON'T waste your $$ on a jet kit. buy #44 (#45 on 1200) slow jet $2.95 from dealer. Main jet can go to #180 $2.95 (#190 on 1200). can change w/ carb mounted on bike. Run it for a while and read your plugs. should be fine w/o drilling idle mixture plug (warranty Risk). I wouldn't recommend SE air cleaner either - go w/ the Arlen Ness "Big Sucker". The new design of the SE is piss-poor. Just my 2cents

I agree with the advice on the NessTech "Big Sucker." I run the SE setup, as I didn't do that much homework before the purchase. Now that I have SE pipes, breather, and ICM en-route, I think I will probably buy the SE cams so that I am eligible for SE racing, if I ever get the desire.

The '06 1200C has a 180 main, which guys at the dealership have been even reducing to a 170, here at sea-level in the 30s farenheit. I run a 45/180, and my plugs were a bit dark at 1300 miles. So, after I upgrade the cams, I may not even need to touch the carburetor. As for the needle, you'll probably want to go with an N65B... stock is an N4NN, and makes tuning tough as nails. I can't find the packaging right now, but they are supplied by H-D as OEM in the California models. As always, your results may vary; however, I also drilled-out the slide breather to 1/8", as suggested by my dealship. Everything is running great!

BTW, the catalyst is in the pipes... once you change them, you won't have it.

The catalyst is in the pipes? So, then, slip-ons won't get rid of the cat.(?)

The catalytic converters are in the front muffler of the 2006 883's only.

If you go slip on mufflers be sure to keep your old mufflers. You may need them to pass a test someday.

My 06 883 is from Florida and it had the catalyst in the front muffler. The muffler actually says "catalyst" on the front muffler body under the heat shield. So I think all 883's get the cat, not just California models. I will definitely save my exhaust system in case big brother needs it to register my bike in the future.
