I need to pick up an oil filter wrench, the type that you use with a ratchet. Anyone know what size it would be for a sporty (04,1200)?

thx.......dave

Do you mean the kind that fits over the end of the filter and slips and you put a ratchet or extension to try and get it off??
Get the adjustable strap kind instead! You will be much happier:clap

Adustable, as in strap wrench?

Better off with the one that hooks to the outside edge of the filter. I think there is only two sizes at Murray's... A and B. Pretty sure its B. Just take the replacement filter with you, and see if it fits. Make sure to use a socket extension, so you don't accidentally strip the paint on your frame :doh

Of course I'm looking for the cleanest, easiest tool. I'm having my 12YO son do all the maintainence work on the scoot. It won't be too long before he has to do it for himself.

thx.....Dave

The MoCo makes one specifically for the Sportster (I have one), but you can find the same basic thing for a lot less money at an auto parts store like Advance or Auto Zone.

Just take the new filter in with you to match it up to the tool.

I picked up one of those jar openers with the rubber strap that loops back in to the handle and it works great. I think I paid $2 for it.

Advanceauto has the fram 6065a harley filter in stock. I used it to find the right size. As it were the Harley and Fram filter are different sizes, but the tool that fit the fram in the store had two sizes in it and it fit the Harley as well. Pretty cool.
