I got tired of bangin my knee into the Ham Can since the rear sets, so made a new backing plate and off-set the whole thing forward about 1 1/2". My knee is much happier. Was still able to use the S/E - K&N element. Maybe get C/F Ham Can cover? Not quite sure yet, kinda still into the retro mostly metal thing, dig that Good Old American Iron. I know some have gone to different A/C set ups but I like the signature Sportster Ham Can.

That's a pretty trick idea .... looks just like the factory made it! :)

I have mid controls, but my knee used to hit against the ham can too.

I just solved my problem with a round air cleaner:

Hey, thats really cool. I'm a ham-can guy myself. I intend to keep my "883 Custom" stock-looking thing till the very end... even when it's actually 88" and looks nothing like a custom!

That looks cool Marco !!

The folks at NHRS have an offset backplate like that which they sell with the hurricane air cleaner. Much nicer if you have the skills to make your own though.

Now ya tell me! Just kiddin. I get just as much of a kick makin stuff and twitz'n as I do rid'n, as it seems most of us here do. Mostly I'm a cheep bastd so mostly scrap pieces from my buddies' machine shop is the way I go.

Always more satisfying to make you own solution or re-engineer a crap part and make it better!

Great job!

I have a big sucker with no cover and still am rubbing the knee on it. Very nicely done.

I went to a RamFlo - also wanted that "old school" look. My knee is much happier as well, since I used to have a giant hypercharger on there. The mod looks sweet.

There’s a guy on the yahoo café like that tilted his ham cam 45 deg. or so for knee clearance (can't find a pic I think he went to a FW). Anyway yours looks much better! How about a picture of the whole bike in it’s current state.
