I second that Ebay or try a local indy shop, the stealership definetely has 'em but takes WAY too many dead presidents to aquire one of those sets of prized jewels....Mike

The best thing to do is surf the internet for leather chaps and see what prices are out there. Just watch the shipping costs. I bought a pair at a bike swap meet...great prices there since there is a lot of competition amongst the vendors. I bought some from Black Jack Leather.

There is a GREAT place not far away from you (in northern OHIO if you don't mind a drive). They have a terrific selection, you can try things on, they'll do alterations and sew patches, etc. for next to nothing in cost. The prices are fantastic and the gear holds up well. They have a huge selection of clothing, all kinds of leather goods, and even carry a selection of thongs manufactured by Flathead Enterprises... skip that shelf!

I can't find it now, but I thought I saw where we had a new forum sponsor that had some good leather deals?Hey planb,

Are you thinking about Boomer at http://www.onsitedeals.com/. He was an XLFourm sponsor for a while, I don't think he is anymore. Everyone that bought from him had good things to say about the service there. His prices aren't bad and from the leather care and quality tips he used to give I think that he only deals in high quality stuff. It would be good to check him out. Even though he is no longer a sponsor, he did help pay for the XLForum maintainence for a good six months. If you buy through him, tell him you heard about him here and maybe he will come back a sponsor us again for a while ;) That would be cool he is a good guy.

Howdy Berter,

Welcome to the forum !!!

I'd be a little leary of buying from Wilson's. I've never thought that their leather was very thick. They might look nice, but are they strong enough to protect your legs and keep them warm on cold days?

EBAY- bought new and used, don't get the patch work or Italian patch work, you won't like and they run big.

Try Jireh cycles.com. Prices seem to be reasonable and hardly any shipping. They
have a tool free number. Delivery in 5-7 days or less

Looking for cheap chaps? If you go to ebay try to find a top end brand. I have never found cheap to pay. If you are planning to wear them a lot get a pair tailored for you. they well cost more but the comfort level and quality well pay in the long run. If you are considering chaps as a safety feature, then may I be as bold as to suggest a pair of leather or kevlar racing pants. If you are in an accident, chaps may twist and sprain muscels in your back at slow speeds. I don't want to discuss what may happen at high speeds

What kind of leather is best suited for motorcycle apparel from a protection standpoint? (In this case chaps)

Cowhide? Buffalo?

I was at my local leather outlet that they had both cowhide and buffalo chaps. The cowhide chaps cost $30 more than the buffalo.

Thanks,

Thoroughly recomend ebay. I don't know about where you live Flathead but the local Honda dealer here is no cheaper than the local H-D sealers in the area. I tried finding goggles and gloves there and they were as high or higher than H-D so I didn't even ask about leathers.

Anser to klar. one of the best chap leather I ever worked with was a shrnken grain buffalo hide. It is very durable for bikers or cowboys. If the cowhide is a shrunken grain pay extra for it. Quality does not cost, it pays
