gronk62 3rd November 2005, 10:06 G'day ALL.
I quite often get PM's from members wanting to know how to embed pictures from their XL Forum gallery into a post.
About a year and a half ago I had absolutely no idea how to do it and I pestered Bert and John to help me understand the basics.
I've decided it might be helpful if I put together this "HOW TO" with the addition of some screen shots to make it extra easy for those who are new all this techno geekery:D
I hope the following will be of help.
Cheers
Phil

bplinson 3rd November 2005, 14:59 Don't forget to rmove the word thumbs/ from the URL.
pquirk 3rd November 2005, 16:03 Hey Phil, that is a great post, even I could undertand it. I am curious about one thing though. There was a time when you could paste the URL of the full sized pic and it would embed properly. It wasn't necessary to use the thumbnail and then edit the URL. Any idea what behind the scene change made it necessary to add a step to the procedure (Bert?). I know it doesn't really matter but I'm just curious.
bplinson 3rd November 2005, 17:03 It is becuase of the watermark that is now put on all non XL Forum Team members gallery photos.
pquirk 3rd November 2005, 17:07 It is becuase of the watermark that is now put on all non XL Forum Team members gallery photos.I knew there had to be a logical explanation, thank Bert.
doc 3rd November 2005, 17:10 Gronk,
You're tryin' to make things to easy. I also can't believe that you came up with this post by yourself.... You probably had help from your daughter huh?:p
Carina 3rd November 2005, 22:09 Thanks for the easy explaination, now all I need to do is actually follow the instructions!
gronk62 4th November 2005, 09:47 Glad it will be of some help :D

I've just shrunk your picture down to a more acceptable size so it fits on the page.
I did this by replacing the word "thumbs" with "medium"
If you try to post a pic that is too large to fit on the page without scrolling its a good idea to do this.:)
NickNasty 24th November 2005, 17:46 http://images.snapfish.com/3455%3A72%3B23232%7Ffp45%3Dot%3E2357%3D%3A97%3D%3C 65%
I htought I followed the directions OK, but the above HTTP isn't working...(No /thumbnail to delete)...I was trying to copy a pic from images.snapfish.com...can't I do this?
raysheen 24th November 2005, 17:51 I don't think that snapfish allows direct linking to pictures on their site...you will have to upload it to the gallery here (or another online site like photobucket) to link to it here. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll see if I can help :D

Hey look ma! I learned something in school today!...Thanks for the help.
GOTWA 24th November 2005, 19:55 Nick, if you're trying to fix that into your sig line, I don't think you can. Bert recently made some changes that prohibt linking to external sites in your sig. You can however download it to your PC, size it (there's some restrictions), load it your forum gallery, and then link in your sig.
Does that make sense?
raysheen 24th November 2005, 20:56 Well I guess that snapfish DOES allow direct linking then :D
Padre 24th November 2005, 22:59 Oh, did it work?

Hey Andy,
If you want to post a picture from your hard drive like you are attempting to do then you'll have to add it as an attachment by clicking on "Manage Attachments" under the area where you type your messages. If you want to be able to display it in the page then you'll have to upload it to a website first :)
John

Stupid question but what website??? how do you get a gallery??? Damn I miss pencil paper envelopes and my Kodak swinger :frownthre
bplinson 13th February 2006, 08:21 All registered members have a gallery. Just go to the gallery and start uploading.
bplinson 13th February 2006, 08:23 OK, so mine is still not working!!!!

Sandra. The gallery does not always create a medium image so sometimes you just remove the /thumbs all together.
The XL Gallery will only create medium image if the image you upload is too large.
In this case your image was small enough so it only creates thumbsize image.

Gary 11th March 2006, 03:43 I keep getting a message about needing 15 post before I post URL to other sites, but I trying to post from my gallery pics???Help a moron in distress please!Well you're up to 14... after one more you can start using external URL's. I think the limit is there just to prevent wandering spammers from posting junk here, makes you have to go through the gauntlet so to speak for a little bit first.

flskevin 3rd April 2006, 02:06 when I paste the address of the gallery image from the properties window and the image shows up in but when i preview the post the image turns in to a text line for a link.
Any ideas why the image is not showing and the link is?
bplinson 3rd April 2006, 06:09 Are you using the IMG tag or the URL tag?
Post your photo here so I can see what you are doing.
flskevin 3rd April 2006, 16:21 http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/04-02-06DC1.jpg
Okay I figured it out, I was putting the address in and not the location in the image prompt.
Thanks Bert.
ctilson 10th April 2006, 05:35 Ok, what is the difference between an "IMG tag" and a "URL tag?"
If I use the photo's Properties URL, I don't see a picture. I see a link to:
http://xlforum.net/photopost/watermark.php?file=8800
If I use the thumbnail's Properties URL, I see the thumbnail.
If I remove the "/thumbs" I go back to the URL showing up again. It links to:
http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/camera040906_084.jpg

The tells the XL Forum software ya wanna display a picture.
The [url] tag tells the XL Forum software ya wanna display a web address
I just checked what tags you are using and they are the [url] tags.
Check my instructions at the beginning of this thread. They will guide you through the steps in the most simple way I could think of.
This is the picture you tried to post with the [url] tags changed to the [img] tags...

ctilson 12th April 2006, 03:35 I was gonna ask where to get the IMG tag, but I found it.
I scrolled down while looking at the gallery, and there it is under "Additional Info."

You don't need to "get" the [img] tags from anywhwere.
They automatically appear at each end of the picture address when you follow the first instructions in this thread...

torxster 10th May 2006, 04:17 http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/How_to_embed_pictures_in_your_posts_step_two.JPG
This is what was throwing me. I was clicking on the actual picture and copying the "location" URL, not the thumbnail properties link URL. SO....
Ya gotta click on the thumbnail, not the picture!! The picture properties box gives you the wrong URL info!! :headbang
As they say here in Texas, shhheeeeeiiiittt.

I just had a quick look at the test area where you were trying to post a pic and it looks like you used the wrong address.
Is this the pic you were trying to post?
http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/Pic051.JPG
The address should look like this.....
http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/500/Pic051.JPG
Copy and paste that into a test post and see if it works. Delete the word "remove" from the first [img] tag

You only need one set of tags too :)
bplinson 21st May 2008, 09:21 Where are you getting the URL for your photo from? If you are copying it directly from the XLF Gallery you do not need to click on the IMG button since the IMG tag is already in the URL.
Just copy the URL from under the image in the gallery and paste it in your post.
A lot of online photo galleries already provide a URL with the IMG tags on them which you can copy and paste. If the IMG tag is already provided there is not need to click the IMG button here on XLF.
