Doing 883 to 1200 conversion I purchased set of seals for top end (70$). One of the gaskets for rocker box (the lowest one) is a very thin steel plate. Old gasket was the other type. Is it right? Should I put any silicone gasket maker on it to be safe of leakage?
Please help

G'day Lukas
The new steel ones are an improvement over the old paper ones......
A smear of loctite 518 rubbed thinly over both sides with ya fingers takes up any extra irregularities

Lukasz, the steel gasket is excellent. I just did my rocker boxes with these, and they are a great improvement. I think it is safe to assume that the steel one will not dry up, crumble and leak like the crappy paper ones do. Don't use any silicone. I'm also using the molded rubber mid and upper cover gaskets. I used just a dap of silicone in 2 spots to keep them in place when installing the covers.

Barry ...
There is something seriously wrong with you and me ... We take a pefectly good brand new motorcycle, and within a couple of months have the motor scattered all over the garage floor .... A psychiatrist would have a field day trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with us!
Come to think about it ... I remember as a little kid, I took enjoyment on taking things apart. Unforfunatly, I seldom got them put back togather properly.
Yes, this is a horrible disease we both are afflicted with. :)
The only permanent fix is a Full Frontal Lobotomy:

Bought it 5/14 and had the heads off 6/15. I only had 375 when I first pulled the heads and cams. Shame Shame. All I know is these damn gaskets are expensive.
