I watched doom and gloom weather reports all night here in Memphis. The irony of all this was the fricken wankers that kept calling and emailing the tv station and asking that they show idol instead. I suppose it is more important that a severe weather emergency with more than 5 tornados touching down in the city.

It all comes down to how they do in the pre-rounds in CA as to whether they make it or not to the real show. If you forget the lyrics during that stage you are toast!!

Her 2003 Ford Mustang collided with a semi as Overmyer was attempting to cross U.S. 24/U.S. 35, according to the Logansport Pharos-Tribune. An unconscious Overmyer was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne but was later released.

Overmyer was the original singer in the local hard rock band Steeleto.

Not sure if you know this... but... They're not singing karaoke. I'll admit that it does get a little old watching them weed out the bad singers, but every now and then I'll watch it towards the end of the season to see what kind of talent has made it through. Frankly, I'm happy that people can share their gift of voice with the world... A musical talent is very fulfilling to yourself and others.

They showed a picture of the accident it was not on her Sporty. It was a passenger car, looked totalled. She did have to be careflighted to hospital. Sounded pretty good for having three broken/cracked ribs.

It will be left to fan voting starting next week.... up to this point it has been the three judges narrowing down to the top 24...

My wife watches this show and so I end up watching it with her here and there... So if you want to vote for Amanda, on Tuesday eveningns, Fox will air the show and open up a phone line for each of the singers on the show. People call in to that line (it is open for a couple hours I think). Then on Wednesday they announce who is leaving the show... for the first few weeks I believe they will get rid of a 1 girl and 1 guy until they get to 12 and then they go to 1 person a week (girl or guy) until they get to the top 2 or 3)...

All the voting is done by flashing up a phone number and you call in a vote for your favorite singer....

There is a time window, each Tuesday night.. with the results on Wednesday night.....

I tried finding her website MrJimi was referring to but only found bits and pieces about her...apparently she was the original singer in a hard rock band called Steelto...I couldn't find anything on youtube, but I was able to find in an obscure link where Steelto played in Montreal back in 2003....whether she was in the band then or not I'm not sure...she would've only been 18 then...I'm sure as she gets closer to celebrity status (i.e., more than she is right now) we'll learn more about the young lass!

I am pretty familiar with the way idol works.. so if anyone has any questions I'll try to answer.

In the past pop singers usually win.. The closest to a rocker winning was Bo Bice (2nd place) and Chris Daughtry (4th place 3xplatinum since). My wife and I always pull for the rocker (if there is one) each season. We gotta get Amanda the title! No more 2nd place or 4th place for the ROCKERS! She has the pipes to WIN WIN WIN!:smoke

Hi peeps I'm Jim the admin of Amanda-Overmyer.Org.. First I would like to say thank you folks so much for wanting to jump in and support our chick.. I started the site for her a couple weeks ago and I was contacted by one of Amanda's closest friends to let me know that they were so happy of what I had done for her.. He also told me that he would sign up at the site and drop in from time to time.. I do know that Amanda is looking at the site but can't post due to idol rules.. There will eventually be an official forum/site for her after idol because of idol rules or something like that.. I seem to remember seeing her old band at Skip's in Angola a few years ago. There was a girl singer, but I don't know if it was this one, or the singer they have now. Good guitar player, I do remember that.

I like her just because she sang 'Turtle Blues' by Janis at her audition. Most women her age would have came out with some pop music crap. Plus, she's hot. :p

How Do I Vote?
Amanda Overmyer will be assigned her own toll-free number and text message short number during the performance show. To vote, simply watch American Idol on FOX each week (see local listings for dates/times in your area) and dial the phone number assigned to Amanda for that week. (each week the contestants are assigned a new number.. Or, AT&T Wireless subscribers may text the word VOTE to the Text Messaging 4 digit short numbers promoted for Amanda Overmyer.. Only send the word 'VOTE' to the 4 digit numbers you see on screen, you cannot send a text message to the toll-free numbers. Voting will open at the end of each performance show. The lines will NOT be open before that.



Who can vote?
Anyone calling or any AT&T Wireless subscribers Text Messaging from within Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska and Puerto Rico can cast their vote for the next American Idol. Voting within the US Virgin Islands is available via toll-free calling, although text message voting is limited to St Croix for AT&T Wireless subscribers.



When can I vote?

I couldn't get through to the lines or all I get is a fast busy signal when I call - why?
Although the telephone network is designed to handle huge volumes of calls simultaneously, there may be times (particularly just after the show) when it will not be able to handle every single call due to the sheer volume. If you are calling during your voting window but can't get through to cast your vote, be patient and try again.

If you hear the fast busy signal, it may be that you are calling outside of the voting window. When your voting window closes, lines will switch from a 'thank you for voting' message to a busy signal.

If you are sure you are calling within your voting window but still can't get through, it may be that your local phone company has been flooded with calls. Try waiting a few minutes before calling again. If you still have problems, contact your local phone company.

If you are calling from a cell phone with an area code that is in a different time zone from that in which you are calling, the system will accept or reject your vote based on the time zone of your cell phone's area code. How do I know my vote has been counted?
Your message will have been counted if you are a AT&T Wireless subscriber and text your vote during your valid voting window and receive your confirmation message, unless your handset says 'message not sent'. You will receive only one text confirmation message each week, regardless of how many contestants you vote for, or how many times you vote that week. If you are calling the toll-free numbers to cast your vote, your vote will count if you hear the 'thanks for voting' message.

Never happen, shocks would bottom out. Just sticking up for a fellow Sporty gal that can sing. Not a big fan of the show, I turned it off after she sang. Always loved Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, this girl's got pipes like that.

Dilana has some cover tunes out on iTunes you can check out. She's still sounding great! And all her Supernova clips are on youtube. She was the only singer on the Supernova show that consistently got my goose bumps going. I think she was much better that the Idol rocker chick on a lot of levels. But it's still early in the season. Amanda could surprise me. I'm a huge fan of Janis so I do like Amanda for her good taste.

Dilana has some cover tunes out on iTunes you can check out. She's still sounding great! She was the only singer on the Supernova show that consistently got my goose bumps going. I think she was much better that the Idol rocker chick on a lot of levels. But it's still early in the season. Amanda could surprise me. I'm a huge fan of Janis so I do like Amanda for her good taste.

Amanda's song choice wasn't as good tonight for me as previous shows, but it's early yet. All three judges liked here, I think she's safe as far as NOT getting voted off on tomorrow night's show. Just my 3 cents...

YEah, I think her performance was great tonight. She's safe for sure. I like the girl that sang the Blood Sweat & Tears song the most so far. We're only up to #9 here in Colorado so far. Three to go...

She sucked tonight. Sounds like she is just singing the same song over and over again. You can still have a "signature" sound without making every song sound the same.

She will not make it to the end unless she puts a little more variety in her act.

and pleeeease no more Janis Joplin. Pick a song that isn't a Janis type song and make it something that Janis would sing. Imitating a hit doesn't work, you have to add something new.

I think only 3 or 4 of the ladies and the same for the men have a shot. Another question - why do so many of the guys sing like they just got kicked in the nuts?

That wasn't Joplin....she covered a 1953 Muddy Waters tune. She does have to make a tough choice though....either stick to what she loves to do or sell out and do variety. That show wants a certain look and package. I say if America doesn't like her for who she is, F@#k 'em!

Amanda does need to make a choice,Song selection this week for both sexes was crappy.How many times did we have to hear "Happy Together".The Blood Sweat & Tears song was a really tough song,even for BS &T.Don't think she pulled it off though.

If you think Amanda seemed a little outclassed by some of the other women there seems to be a good reason for that. I'm not a big fan of the show but I started seeing this "controversy" stuff on the web and did some reading.
Many of the women and men instead of being "undiscovered talent" are failed recording artists. They've had albums, done videos, been onstage or sang backup for big stars. Carly Smithson, isn't even American. She's from Ireland and was an MCA recording artists who's album didnt do well.

I'll be watching Law and Ordere re-runs :)

Baby please don't go: Actually, Muddy covered that song also. It's a 1935 song by an old blues guy. I believe she was covering the 1967 version by the Amboy Dukes; Ted Nugent's early band. She did well, but the song is way outdated.

Amanda: She is outclassed by most of the other girls for this contest. She's the best rock singer but that's not at all what's popular with the teeny-boppers that are voting for this stuff.

The Turtles: The lead singers for The Turtles went on to sing in Frank Zappa's band, The Mothers of Invention, for a few years.

And finally:
If I could bring any of the girls home to "play", it'd be the girl that sang Spinning Wheel, Alexandrea Lushington. My wife would object though. :D

Overmyer leaves Simon Cowell speechless on American Idol
Mulberry's singing nurse wows judges one more time

Simon Cowell speechless?

This was the case after Amanda Overmyer performed live on American Idol tonight on Fox.

Mulberry's own 23-year-old "rock 'n' roll nurse" wailed on a bluesy, guitar-driven version of "Baby Please Don't Go," originally by Big Joe Williams but later covered by the likes of Bob Dylan, The Doors, Muddy Waters and many others.

After raves from judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul, Cowell was uncharacteristically at a loss for words before finally saying "I really like you" and "I hope you stay around for awhile."

Millions of viewers waited in anticipation for judge Cowell's critique due to his comments about Overmyer's sound perhaps not being broad enough and relying too much on her Janis Joplin-style of singing in earlier episodes.

To combat this, Overmyer revealed in a video package before her song that she will not be performing anymore Joplin songs for the rest of the competition.

After the judges' comments, Overmyer joked around with host Ryan Seacrest and got many laughs recounting her Nov. 20 Logansport car crash with a semi truck ("Sorry for pulling out in front of you, dude, seriously.") and giving Cowell trouble for not knowing "Baby, Please Don't Go" as well as she does.

2004 Purdue University graduate Amy Davis did not fare as well as Overmyer. While her look was very pleasing to the television cameras and the judges, her take on the Connie Francis title song from the 1960 movie "Where the Boys Are" was not.

Jackson said Davis had "a lot of pitch problems" while Cowell didn't mince words when he called it "really, really dull. It sounded like it went on for 10 minutes."

She was fun to watch. I did like her song.....it was ok......upbeat. It was way better than a lot of the other choices. In addition, I think she is authentic, has a great personality and can sing. I like her.......I'll give her my votes............I'll be loyal to a fellow sporty rider.

I think her stance against joplin is a mistake. In fact, I bet she could use bobby mcgee as a big gun when she needs one. She's worth watching just to see her try not to sneer at the "cutsie" girls reacting to everything. lol

They just had to pick Amanda to go up with the one that got booted. If they were looking for emotional TV, it backfired on the producers. Not a nervous quiver or a tear in that girl. She even smirked when they used the dramatic cut to a commercial before we axe one of you ploy. Solid just like a Sporty and Rock and Roll. She handled that like hittin' gravel at 70mph. Don't move a muscle and plow through. I'm guessing she'll be around for awhile.

My favorite version of that song is still by Them, one of Van Morrison's first bands. That's the version that always pops into my head. And the original "old blues guy" referred to above was Big Joe Williams.

Edit: I would watch the show if performers that were voted off were executed on the stage at the end of the show. That would be worth watching. It would encourage the participants to give it their all.
