I've been thinking about Powder Coating my Case covers, both sides..
It's a '03 and the covers are Polished Aluminimum..
Should I be concerned about the heat, more so the Cam side!!
Do's or Don't??

Has anyone done this on their Sporty??? :D

My cases are in getting powdercoated black, shouldn't be a problem.

txsporty,

You can have the powder coater use a heat resistant powder coat like that used on the cylinders and heads.

txsporty,
I have a 94 sporty with both cases powder coated gloss black, cylinder and heads, yellow to match the rest of the bike, it has been on for 6-years still looks great, no scratches of buff marks.

I'm thinkin about the same thing. Blacked-out engine bits (covers, cylinders, etc.) are a daamn sexy look to me. :D

n00b question: when powdercoating, do you decide the gloss of the finish? I have more of a flat matte finish in mind.

I have the 2002 883R sportster and they come with black powder coated engines from the factory. About 20,000 miles on the bike now and the powder coating has held up well, including the clutch cover where my foot occasionally hits. It looks good with the stainless bolts. :clap

We don't have to worry about salt in Texas, if we get snow or ice it is gone in a day or two, sand is the only thing used here for traction.

txsporty,
I,m not in the valley, that is where the horn came from, I actually am 30 mi. from Crawford, the Texas White House, I'm located in Gatesville, Tx. "hill country". we have great back roads to ride, twisties, hills, no traffic, plenty of deer though.

Yellow1200, fantastic looking motor. Looks like the tips of your cooling fins are bright. How was this done with the powder coating, polished after?

Also, can you give any info on how the powder shop keeps the stuff away from all the passages in the heads, etc.

Really interesting.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Fins we polished after powder coating, cost almost as much as coating, all openings are pluged before coating. Baked at 350/400 deg. F
