What kind of insane marketing genius decided to NOT sell the thing in the US? They're gonna debut it in Africa? AFRICA??? WTF?!?!?

Harley Davidson. Love the bike. Hate the company.

LOL, that's awesome, but imagine not having to do all that, a Sporty based bike (other than a Buell) that can do that out of the box!!!

The "R" throughout Harley's history has always been desiginated as a race only bike. It is a shame that they put it on a street production bike. It reminds me when Chevy started putting Z28 stickers on their smogged up low performance camaros.

The R - you mean like the XL883R or the XL1200R ?

Yeah, I know you mean XR - but still, gimmie a break, the XR750 isn't going to be winning any races in this day and age except against other XR750s too.

And who gives a shyte about chevy and camaros, the world passed them by too.

Reports are the XR1200 is going to put out 91 hp stock, that's a nice SPORTY derivative for the street.

Well I guess I am still stuck in the 70's. However, I would like to own a XR1200 but I am worried that my bellbottoms would get stuck in the chain.

For the 10th Fn time.

YOU CANNOT USE EXCHANGE RATES TO COMPARE THE PRICE OF A BIKE IN DIFFERENT MARKETS.

The XL1200C sells for about $7,455.00 GBP and it DOESN'T sell for nearly $15k here in the US now does it???

NO!

So using THAT logic, the XR1200 COULD potentially be priced a couple of hundred dollars more than an XL1200C - or at about 10-10.5K - right in the price range of that sort of bike here

Ducati GT1000, Guzzi Breva 1100 or Griso 1100 etc.

Yes they do. There is a Suzuki Factory team trying to beat them. There is also a Triumph running. Honda copied the XR to beat them. The Hondas were slightly better at that time but you don't see any one still running them.

The tires are the limiting factor. They put any more power down than the tires can handle.

The XR is still the top dog on the dirt. Pavement is a different story.

Seriously, it's such a silly race circuit, I'm shocked anyone gives a crap...

You can't look at something like that and not examine all the nuances of the bike specs for that racing series.

Like superbikes allowing nearly double the displacementy for V-twins to level the playing field.

WTF does it mean at that point?

It's not a case of run what ya brung for damn sure.

Which brings me back to the XR750, the XR1200 or the XL1200 NONE OF THEM are the best or fastest or ______________ so why split hairs over em.

you say..15000 us dollar is it whith the uk price thats still 5000 less than we have to pay and still i buy one if its coming in April so if the xr is coming in us you always pay not that much as whe have to do here in Holland.

...did you just insult Flattrack racing ? I hope I mis-read your post?
The sport of Motorcycle racing began in America on Ovals(Wood then Dirt). And NOW- Flattrack is even (Finally) becoming popular in the UK, and its True American style- not that wussie speedway crap they have over there too.
The Sport of flattrack in america is dying, but it's also TRYING to survive and change, to bring new Blood(and Marques) to the sport. And don't forget, the Hayden Bros ALL started out in Flattrack FIRST....just like the American Hero's of the Past....

Seriously, it's such a silly race circuit, I'm shocked anyone gives a crap...

Kev M it has become apparent to me that you have never seen a mile dirt track race! Even nowadays it is still a very pure form of racing. However, the thing I like about roadracing is you can watch the first five laps, get drunk, pass out, wake up and swear it is lap six even though it is the last lap! Roadracing is sooooooooooooo boring. Also, you never see more than a quarter mile of the whole track. What's up with that!

What kind of insane marketing genius decided to NOT sell the thing in the US? They're gonna debut it in Africa? AFRICA??? WTF?!?!?It's Europe, basically. Presumably Africa's in the same sales division?

Look, the 883R has sold so few in the US that it's been discontinued; the 1200R isn't a big seller even though it's so cheap. In Europe they sell lots of the 883R (yes, we've still got them) and the 1200R (which is the most expensive 1200 over here). I guess they decided to launch the XR 1200 where they figured they could sell them.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, I like to DO not watch, so I don't really WATCH much of ANY sport (motor or other).

But IF I'm gonna sit down and watch I'd usually prefer TV coverage of a Road Race, cause that way you can see more of it. ;)

On TV you mis the sights, the smells, the true flavor of racing, and then you have the fellowship all around you in the stands. Also, you have the ability (if you desire) to cruise the pits, and scrutinize, bullshit, and meet face to face- some of the legends of the sport.
Sorry, I can't stand watching Racing of ANY kind on TV. To each his own. Seems like some peeps would rather sit in an armchair, and see how high they can get their post count- LOL :laugh

I've been to a track weekend to "watch" some road racing...but quickly lost interest in the watching and went for a ride instead.

There's only so many hours in a day, week, month and I'll take the riding over the watching anytime.

As for arm chair bla bla bla - well, someone's got a bring some money into the house, just so happens I do that very affectively from an arm chair :p (and I can post at the same time too - only thing better would be getting paid to ride).... :p

I do watch motor racing on TV, but there's nothing like going to the track. Over here we've a few tracks where you can see all (or very nearly all) of the track from one spot. That's OK, but that spot is rarely right at the side of the track (it is at Lydden Hill though). Sometimes I'll give up the view of the whole track to stand right beside the fence and experience the sound, the smell (Castrol R!) and the speed.

Exactly! The clunk of the all gear boxes going into first gear before they rev the engine and launch off into turn one.
