View Full Version : Seat number 4 wish me luck
Johnny G 11th November 2005, 06:33 Ok after the stock seat that hurt my rear and my tailbone after a 100 mile ride and a Mustang solo that was good on the rear but ugly and I was getting a upper back pain from that one and my Oh so killer looking but hurts sooooo bad everywhere LaPera Bare bones I now have a new Corbin solo to try. All I can say is wish me luck. I hate to give up the LePera but its only good for short local runs and I dont want to have to change my seat everytime. To me the corbin looks like it might be a good seat I am going on a 150 mile on Sunday I will be sure to post a opinion.
wreker 11th November 2005, 06:54 I look forward to the report. My Mustang solo doesn't give me enough room and puts me too close to the forwards. My Mustang Wide Ultra Touring 2 up feels great, but it's so darn big...
saltman241 11th November 2005, 07:12 Anxiously waiting for that review. I've been torn over seat decisions for a while now. You've already tried a couple possible choices and can't wait to hear what you think of this one. It's my first choice.
Johnny G 11th November 2005, 07:16 I am sure that I will have something to say about it Sunday night. So far Im OK with the looks and fit and a trip around the block seemed OK but its good old milage that will tell. The quality is the best of any of the other seats but so far I dont like that I had to add a bracket and move the modual because that makes changing to a other seat more than just a screw away, I guess that will be ok if I decide to keep it on all the time. If this dont work I may end up changing the bars out again.

I have the Corbin Solo on my '03. Love it.
My rear would get numb after about 10 minutes on the H-D stock seat. The Corbin really is comfortable to ride on. It takes a while (500 +/- miles to have the seat conform to your seat. But it is rally worth it.
I had trouble getting the seat to fit my bike. No matter how much I bent the seat bracket on the bike, seat wouldn't fit. Corbin had to replace it. Then I bent the bracket again and used a 2x4 as a lever to hammer it into place.
Corbin has the seat again because the leather began peeling in the center of the seat. Can't wait to get it back.

Johnny G 12th November 2005, 02:50 I rode my bike to work today and the corbin solo has a nice feel kind of like sitting in a bowl it has many comfortable positions so you dont have to sit in the same spot I really cant give it a real opinion yet but I am going to long beach to Jesse James West coast choppers NO LOVE party on Saterday 150 mile round trip and the LOVE ride on sunday 20000 bikers yes thats right 20000 bikes and that is about 125 total miles on that one, so I should be able to tell all on Monday if I can still walk.
Johnny G 13th November 2005, 02:45 Well The corbin is by far the best on my rear so far but because of my 5'6" size I still have problems I think I need to get the Solo close seat to put me a little farther forward and maybe take off my forward pegs and switch to mid and maybe take the drag bars off. Dont get me wrong I have a bad lower back to begine with and I may never get this bike to make me happy I rode a dyna today and I could not belive how comfortable it was to me I was so upset I did not buy one of those but I would have never known that my sporty was going to hurt me so bad. I am really happy with the corbin the quality it truly is made very well and I rode all day today and my rear is just fine but my lower back hurts pretty bad. I really liked the drag bike look but it is just not working for me so maybe I will try something else. Anyway the corbin is a awsome seat. It may be for sale so I can get the close version if anyone has interest in one PM me and we can talk about it I think I am just on the borderline between standard and close I guess I will check E bay for mid controls and get some differant handlebars maybe I will try the original ones again.

Change out those drag bars and you might find that all the various seats you have had on the bike may not have been so bad afterall ..
Just my guess.
mordak 13th November 2005, 03:38 Good luck and I can't wait for the results.
fafcpa 13th November 2005, 14:28 Before you change the seat again, be sure to ride about 500 miles so the seat can form to your rear. The instructions that come with the seat stress this. They go on to add that after 500 miles the seat will continue to get more comfortable.
I have a H-D close seat you may be interested in if you really need a closer seat. But you probably can have the Corbin adjusted by an upholsterer to fit you better should you need it.

MNewYork 13th November 2005, 15:32 John,
We’re about the same size (height 5 7”). Before you make yourself crazy over the comfort factor, I’d really try riding a bike that was set up with Mid-controls and Pullback bars (regardless of what seat is on it). If your back is a bit out of wack, the position that’s forced on you by the forwards/drag bars could be the real source of you pain. Maybe you can swap rides with a friend just to check it out.
Johnny G 13th November 2005, 17:49 I think I am going to go to mid controls and see how that is there cheap on E bay 80.00 If I like them great if not I will just put the forwards back on. I never had any of these problems on any other bike I owned but I never had drag bars and forwards before. I other thing that might be agervating my back is with mid controls I use to be able to stand up a little when I seen a big bump coming, with the forward the bumps go strait to my back.
Johnny G 14th November 2005, 01:54 OK I took a long 150 mile ride today and my rear feels 0 pain the corbin solo is by far the best seat I have had 100 times better than the Le Pera bare bones 80 times better than the stock seat 50 times better than the mustang solo. The corbin has somewhat of a bowl to it so no matter where you sit on it its comfy all the other seats had only one position that was any good. Also the quality of the corbin is awsome and I like the key feature I keep my paperwork in a zip baggie under the seat so if I need it I can just use the key to get to it. So here is where I stand I bought the mid controls on ebay and the forward peg kit from HD so now I have a seat with more than one comfortable position and mid and forward pegs so if one gets bad I can switch to the other. My drag bars seem just a inch or two ot of reach so I ordered a set of Sportster sport bars in chrome from HD out of the catalog they say the work fine with the stock lines and cables, they kind of have the old beach cruiser look to them. I also have never liked windshields till today I ran into a guy that had the 14 Wind Vest part no 10-1047CT smoked shield on his sportster and it looked awsome so I am getting one of those. I have come to reality and decided to give up the drag look and build something I can ride:tour :tour :D :D
