View Full Version : Barnett Clutch Cable

I recently had to buy a new clutch cable, and knowing that those don't need to be replaced that often I decided to just buy the best quality I could find. After asking some questions at the dealer, my indy and other riders the majority recommended the Barnetts.

I ended up going with the steel braided as my brake is already braided(Russell) and I plan on switching the throttle as well in the future.

All I can say is WOW! The effort to pull it in is nothing. I know my old one was in bad shape, but come on, after a hour in bumper to bumper my left forearm looked like popeye's! It moves so smothly that the first time I tried to take off I almost ended up stalling it because there was barely any resistance. I guess the trick is that the inner cable is coated with teflon so there is no metal to metal contact. I imagine with a barnett and that easy pull thingy, my clutch would feel like a hydro. All I know is that I am sold, and the throttle cables are getting changed soon.

If you have ever wished that your clutch was a little easier to pull or, if your like myself, and came from dirtbikes and two fingered clutching is what your used to then by all means go get a Barnett.

The part number I used probably will not work for your guys bike's as I have wide glide bars, so I had to get one 6" over. From looking at the Barnett site it looks like pt# 619-68A will fit all models except huggers with buckhorns from 1987 to 2005. I got mine from J&P for $59.95, but their part numbers are different, so be sure to check the website for your particular part number. I really am kicking myself that for the price I didn't change it out earlier.

You might also want to check around to try and find a lower price. I have found that there are less expensive places out there, but I needed my bike running(lately has been my daily driver), and I have found J&P has a large inventory and they get the orders out quickly without problems. If I had more time, I probably would have shopped around.

My buddy used Barnetts on his Volusia Chop.

All was well for about a month and the cable end popped off!

They were pretty cool about it. We rigged it up with some removable ends until Barnett sent a new one.
Adios

I have the Barnett braided clutch cable and he's right, it is easier to pull. I bought mine here. (http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BS-CLUTCH)
Installed it over the summer and haven't had any problems with it. I got 6" over as well.
Ya can kinda see it in this pic.

I saw that site when I was shopping around for mine, but they didn't show anything for 2004+ bikes. That is why I used Direct Parts. It took over three months for me to get my parts, and the brake cable they sent was not only not the one I ordered, it wasn't even Barnett!

Another horror story, and they call themselves Direct Parts? Directly through Siberia by way of pack mule? Thumbs down.

Thanks for the heads-up!
