View Full Version : Tank Bag
Doc66 16th November 2004, 20:51 Anyone have a favorite model of tank bag that they swear by for keeping track of small items, storing/displaying a map (yeah getting lost can be fun but knowing where to find gas stations is helpful), holding small purchases while you're on the road, etc?
I'd like to add one to the gift list but recommendations from y'all would be appreciated.
AZbiker 17th November 2004, 22:02 Not many of us use tank bags...I have a Teknic "Freeway" that I use on my 2001. I like it, it is decent quality for the $50 it cost me at Cycle Gear. If you're looking for better quality (and higher prices), try Marsee or RKA.
slolane 17th November 2004, 22:32 I like Nelson-Riggs, never used it on my Sporty, just gave it away with my CBR I just sold.
Doc66 18th November 2004, 18:44 Thanks for the replies. I wasn't sure if anyone used one or not. I don't want/need one all the time but there have been some times I wish I had easier access to certain items. I've looked at the thigh packs that some use and I've thought about a license plate bag but I suppose pockets work too. I thought I had read a few messages on this forum about others who had tank bags on a Sporty but I may have come across it somewhere else. I did a search at the old site and came up with nothing. Thanks again for the replies.
shoei 19th November 2004, 04:42 I have a magnetic Tourmaster tankbag. It fits the sportster tank nicely. Clear map pocket, one main expandable compartment, and a rain cover. With some gear in it, it actually makes a nice rest on long trips, but my sporty is cafed so I lean more forward than most.

rottenralph 19th November 2004, 04:59 I had a tank bag with the magnets on the side and it sucked. The parts that were supposed to hold it down always started flapping in the wind around 80 m.p.h. I would definately look around and consider the scratches you will get in the paint from it.
Doc66 24th November 2004, 18:19 Thanks for the further comments and advice about the tank bag.
Rottonralph, I appreciate the note about paint scratches. I wondered how much of an issue that was.
Have a great Thanksgiving to all who celebrate. Travel safe if you're hitting the road.
missyd 24th November 2004, 20:46 I have a big and a small tank bag made by IXS. Easy to use with the big magnetos on the underside. Prefer the tankbag a rucksack gets unconfortable after a while.
But my sportyhas a strechtank which is ideal for a tankbag. Not shure if the big one would fit the peanut style tank ...
Darhawk 25th November 2004, 00:36 Thought about a tank bag, but after talking to a dealer that sold them (he said they're a waste of money), went with a sissy bar bag. It carries everything I need up to about 10 lbs........which includes light jackets, gloves, maps, flashlight, small tool kit, etc. Regardless of what bag you use, y'all gotta stop to get stuff in or out, or to read maps.:usa2
Mountainrun 12th December 2004, 14:07 The rack on edmans back fender's pretty nice. I wonder if there's a quick install sissy bar that could be combined with that for travelling.
toothygrin 15th December 2004, 04:18 I use my magnetic tank bag and magnetize it to my sissy-bar, or use it on the tank to keep the privates sheltered from the breeze when it's cold out (I dont know the brand its all the way out in the garage at the moment)
txsporty 15th December 2004, 04:49 I just use bungee cords and a Cargo net and strap it to the Solo Rack!!!
I can carry a bunch of stuff!! Tent, Sleeping Bag, Roll Bag, Small Military Day Pack. :D
Darhawk 15th December 2004, 05:33 Isn't it amazing what you can do with bungee cords.............I've used them to tie down everything but the kitchen sink, and I'm close to fiquring that one out too.:D
txsporty 15th December 2004, 05:42 Dar,
