View Full Version : Colorado ride?

Is anyone interested in a ride, either next weekend, the weekend after, or both? I think it would be cool to get some rides together. I live in Denver, Lakewood to be exact, and will ride somewhere to meet up too. I havent decided where or when yet, maybe we can work something out. I am free on sunday this next weekend march 2nd, and all weekend the weekend after that.

Yeah, I'm down for it, most likely, though Sundays are homework days. Saturdays tend to work better for me. This Saturday looks like it might be nearly 60 and possibly snowing on Sunday (of course, the weather prediction this far out is about as accurate as...well, any other weather prediction in Colorado :doh). Think you mighta posted this in the Colorado section to get a better response? ;)

I went on a 130 mile jaunt this past Saturday. It was a little chilly, but it was nice to get out and ride. Speaking of cold, do you have any recommendations on good gloves?? That's that last thing I need to complete my riding gear.

Let me know. I might go snowmobiling or might go on this ride.

I posted this in the general forum because the regional forum doesnt get many hits. I will let you guys know if I go riding. I am seriously thinking about going sunday. If we go, where's a good meetup? I live in Lakewood, real close to 285, on wadsworth. Saturday isnt good this weekend, I am going snowboarding with some friends. Next weekend maybe.

Good gloves, hmmm. I got some nice textile/leather ones from Castle, they are pretty much inpenetrable from wind and water. Nice and warm. they are a gauntlet glove, so they go half way up your arm. They only cost me about $45 or so too.

We have about 3 inches of snow on the ground here in Firestone. Not looking good for a ride this weekend.

Hardly even a dusting here in Boulder... The forecast says 50s from Tuesday through Saturday... Who knows? Keep me in the loop, too, one way or the other. Can always go for multiple rides in a weekend, right?? Still need to get my tuning dialed in correctly, so maybe I'll finally get that set some time on Friday or so. I'm struggling to get the :censoring thing right!

Yeah, we got snow in town, but its all gone now.

I will definitely up for a ride, and I will keep everyone in the loop as the week progresses. I am going to keep sunday open, and look at places to ride.

I'd be up for a Saturday ride. You know, if you don't mind a helmet-wearing Dyna-rider...

My forecast says high of 65.

Palmer Lake (85/105 S. lunch at O'Malley's to 83 N.) loop?

Sounds good to me. Dan of NRHS fame was makin' noise like he wanted to go. hopefully he sees this post. All bikes are welcome. I used to ride with a bunch of jap bikes and Ducatis. Its all good if it has two wheels and an engine! Check out www.forcast.weather.gov that is where I get my info, straight from the shource.

We could meet at Rocky Mountain HD (http://www.rmh-d.com/info/location.php) just off County Line Rd in Littleton? Or how about a coffee place near there to load up on java first? There's a Starbucks near the dealer... Starbucks @ Town Center & Santa Fe in Highlands Ranch. (http://www.starbucks.com/retail/locator/MapResults.aspx?a=1&StoreKey=106752&IC_O=39.566151%3a-105.021991%3a32%3a2885+W+County+Line+Rd&GAD1_O=&GAD2_O=2885+W+County+Line+Rd&GAD3_O=Littleton%2c+CO+80129-1907&GAD4_O=United+States&radius=10&countryID=244&dataSource=MapPoint.NA)

Both are close to Santa Fe (US-85) and C-470...

Meet at 9am? 10am? 11am?

The starbucks sounds good. I like coffee!!! 10 Am will work. what time do you think we will be at O'Malleys? COSpringer would like to ride back north with us from O'malleys.

wandrur
28th February 2008, 20:03
Yep, 10am would work for me. It's going to take an hour for me to get down there. I'm tentatively in and leaning toward yes, but I've got some other responsibilities that need taken care of before I go gallivanting off for a 4+ hour ride.

I'd like to do a longer ride but there is still a ton of sand and wet spots up in the hills so... I'm open to suggestions for sure. Here's my suggested route. The road south is very pleasant with some rolling turns and lots of folks on bikes going both ways. The road north is through open grassland mostly and I've added a turn I've never taken back over through Castle Rock. Google map of Palmer Lake loop (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=1151255719009953263,39.100016,-104.771813%3B4253267146700159892,39.270940,-104.736310%3B11308037189833018143,39.378093,-104.859914%3B5346395073618608072,39.380310,-104.869470%3B3697699327410306121,39.402250,-104.884340%3B9102720197130361349,39.408568,-104.875032%3B4953170077487556646,39.566950,-105.024870&saddr=9135+Commerce+Center+Circle,+highlands+ranch ,+co&daddr=palmer+lake,+co+to:CO-105+%4039.100016,+-104.771813+to:CO-83+%4039.270940,+-104.736310+to:Wilcox+St+%4039.378093,+-104.859914+to:39.379691,-104.865339+to:Prairie+Hawk+Dr+%4039.402250,+-104.884340+to:Meadows+Pkwy+%4039.408568,+-104.875032+to:Southpark+Ct+%4039.566950,+-105.024870&mra=dme&mrcr=3,4&mrsp=5&sz=16&via=4,6&dirflg=h&sll=39.379227,-104.866862&sspn=0.009653,0.023518&ie=UTF8&ll=39.3566,-104.889221&spn=0.617995,1.505127&z=10). Both way-points 'E' and 'G' are HD dealers and I know the one at 'E' is having an inventory blowout sale this Saturday. I don't need anything but if anyone is interested...

At waypoint 'B' there is a biker pub called O'Malley's with burgers, wings, steak, beer, etc...

If anyone has other ideas, please post them.

Dan, I hope you can make it. We spoke on the phone last week about doing some upgrades to my Dyna. Cheers, Morgan

Had a good time and the weather was perfect. Met some cool xlforum riders.
still kinda dizzy from the u-turns and cant figure out how it took 1 1/2 hous to cook those burgers:doh But the best thing of going on these rides is meeting the
great people from this forum an seeing Dans 100 hp. beast. Wish my bike sounded like that:)
Hope to see all of you on the next ride.

Yeah, definitely NOT going to that bar when it is the first nice day in a while. I'm glad everyone had a good time. Thanks for coming out and practicing U turns with me. It was definitely good to meet all the good people that haunt XLF regularly. Dan's bike woulda cooked my bacon today, I was NOT in top riding condition. Thanks again for riding, I hope everyone had a safe trip home!! Next ride should be up north. I will research this ride a little better though. (no more u-turns!! lol) Wish you could have made it, CosmicCharlie!

Sorry I missed you all. By brother-in-law and another friend rode south of the Springs this morning and then we heard that our nephew in Aurora wanted to join us. By the time we were headed north it was nearly 1:00. Ended up riding up CO 470, I-70, and CO 119 to Nederland and Boulder then back south on CO 93, CO 470, and I-25 home. Nice ride. Cops were out in force on 119. I ended up getting a warning after they clocked the guys ahead of me for 20 over. I was tail-end-charlie so I was the one he pulled over but I swear I wasn't going more than 10 over. Keep me in mind for next time!

That's right in my backyard! I love that Nederland ride. My usual route is Boulder Canyon to Nederland to Estes, then down to Lyons and back to Boulder. Love that route! Glad you got out for some good riding.

I'm just glad the fuzz wasn't on 105...I think they would have arrested us! Just as I get into Boulder (and stopped going 80), I see a State Patrol car--you know, those shiny gray, pretty cars?--that had yanked somebody over. I'm so lucky.
