View Full Version : Riding Boots
chipdog4 17th January 2005, 04:32 I saw a little advertisement on the side of the forum here and checked it out.
Currently I wear my old Justin WorkBoots that I wear around the farm.
I think its about time for a new pair for dress and whatnot.
I know some people don't like boots that are too tall becuase it restricts your ankle movement, but I the looks and the added protection, should I ever need it. Not only that, but these riding boots have TREAD. :tour
What style of boots do you wear and why? One of my dad's cousins rides barefoot. :frownthre

Oh not only that, but my right boot is getting tarnished from the brake lever. What the crap is going on there?

Chipdog,
I wear these H-D boots. I bought them through Boot Barn. They are made by Wolverine! Very nice boot, comfortable and side zipper for easy on and off.

I paid $109 for them!
Billy
chipdog4 17th January 2005, 04:49 Damn, $109 for Wolverines ain't bad.
They do look comfortable.
Gary 17th January 2005, 05:17 I can't imagine wearing anything while riding without high sides myself, but I ride with a guy ocassionally who wears dockers without socks, even in 50 degree weather.
If you aren't a slave to style, Walmart has decent boots for about $40.
Gary
74FeHeadXLH 17th January 2005, 05:39 Well I'm partial H D brand, and I prefer zip down the side, even some lace front boots come w/zip sides. The two stealerships in my area occationally have an asst. of boots on sale or even clearence, I'e seen as high as 50% off.....I repeat OCCATIONALLY...these folks arent into giving F'n nuthin away. Alsoafter all the years I find a low heeled boot is much more comfortable. For cold weather them lace fronts arent so good , the over the calf full zip up H D is the best....but there's a whole lot of boots on the market that would be good riding boots.....preference,money, style,,,Mike 74xlh

Walmart's where I shop boots. Always have my size and the price is right. :clap
planb 17th January 2005, 06:41 I've bounced around trying to find my perfect riding boot...I've got a nice pair of tall Danner boots (gore-tex and insulated) compliments of Uncle Sam, a pair of Corbin boots (good quality, but I feel too "yuppy" in them), and a pair of H-D 9" high side zippered boots...now that I have the H-D broken in a bit, they appear to be the ones I wear more often, but I wouldn't hesitate to put the Danners on if it gets any colder! I got the Corbins and H-D boots on e-bay...what a deal on the H-D boots...a guy had got them as a gift and they were the wrong size so they hadn't even been worn..still in the box...$23.00! I love e-bay when I get a super deal like that! If you are store shopping, don't ignore the Walmarts, all the other marts, and usually there's a farm supply store near every town that has a good selection, too! Good luck...and take some heavy socks to try the boots on if'n you're in cold feet country! And as Towely says, "Always take a towel!"
willprevale 17th January 2005, 10:04 I've worn cowboy boots since before time began and wear them today, for riding walking, whatever. I do like those side zip wolverines that Billy has.
Good advice planb.
collinsb 17th January 2005, 10:47 If you aren't a slave to style, Walmart has decent boots for about $40. Gary
Yeah, but $40 don't get you power windows, or a shoe sole that says H-A-R-L-E-Y D-A-V-I-D-S-O-N. This is a nice little upscale feature when your in a bar fight. I can leave an six month imprint on the side of Mr BikerBully's face. The little ladies seem to like my shiny Harley boots, too. When I'm in a bar, I like to walk around and show all the patrons the H-D script on the bottom of my boot. A lot of times they look at me real strange. I think they're just jealous, cause most riders only have a Harley T-shirt. I'd like to find some leather pants that say "Harley Davidson Motor Company-Since 1903" embroidered across the ass. Maybe something that lights up at night! That would be really cool.

GRAYFEATHER 17th January 2005, 11:08 I ride in Johnny reb made by Thomas Cook thay cost $300 in australia nice boots take me bake to the old days.
Grayfeather :hogsign
gordy 17th January 2005, 12:42 I use sidi motorcross boots, loads of protection especially around the toes and ankles and once they are broken in they are amazingly comfortable....but breaking them in is extremely uncomfortable ..
They last for years as well had this pair for 5 years and will probably get another 2 or 3 out of them .
stevo 17th January 2005, 13:26 Skate shoes for around town or steel capped work boots, depending on wether I'm workin or not....or steel capped Colarados
Tall pull on biker style boots when I feel like it...yankee made, goodyear welt soles, black ones like the link in origional post but I cut the gay bar loiterers strap off.
Sidi race boots for runnin hard, with the full leathers or draggin jeans
I used ta ride in thongs, years ago......... used ta race each other to the pub in the next town for the sunday sesh..... one corner I used ta lean the bike over and roll the foot under and trim my toe nails on the bitumen....
Funny how as ya get older ya wear more gear.... ;)
flathead45 17th January 2005, 13:42 I go to the fleet farm store here and get boots that say h-a-r-l-e-y d-a-v-i-d-s-o-n on them for about $80 some even have power windows and reclining seats
I personaly like the engineer style boots for riding , they fill up with rain water real nice
RedRider 17th January 2005, 13:50 I wear the Double H brand traditional slip-on riding boots. They are around $90 at the local leather goods store. They were a bitch to break in, but are very comfortable afterwards.
The lace-up style boots suck in the cold & rain, from my experience.
txsporty 17th January 2005, 14:35 I wear a lace up HD boot from the Local Sporting Goods Store. The Lace up's give my poor old ankle's some support!! :D
doc 17th January 2005, 14:36 After a pair of HD boots, I bought a pair of Redwings. Probably the best boot I've ever had. They were hard to break-in, but right now they feel like I don't even have shoes on.
pquirk 17th January 2005, 14:59 What style of boots do you wear and why? One of my dad's cousins rides barefoot.
Wow Chipdog, you really are from southern Indiana  .
I ride in whatever boots are closest to the backdoor when I get free time to ride. That might mean my Frye boots that have been around since the '80s or my Vasque hikers or my wife's spike heels, she gets so PO'd when I scuff 'em. BTW I'm also in the market for some designated riding boots. :tour
flathead45 17th January 2005, 15:19 pquirk, you got a fleet farm or a farm &fleet near you ?
I got my rider boots at fleet and I've had them for 4 years now and they still look good . payed 80 bucks for 'em , lace up style with buckle and hd accents . they have a few styles to chose from
Darhawk 17th January 2005, 16:53 I've worn cowboy boots since before time began and wear them today, for riding walking, whatever. I do like those side zip wolverines that Billy has.

I've worn cowboy boots most of the time too. However, the bike just doesn't have the right swagger when I'm wearing them while riding.....and the leather soles seem to slide too easily on the oil patches left at stop lights and signs by other vehicles.
chipdog4 17th January 2005, 18:05 I've got a pair of lace-up Redwing steeltoe workboots and those are the most uncomforatbale pair of shoes I've ever tried to wear.
That's another I noticed, too. On hot days, my boots seem to slide right over the tar patches on the road. I've had to manuever around a couple of times at stopligts to keep from going over.
Yeah, I'm from Southern Indiana all right. We've got some rough characters around here.
pquirk 17th January 2005, 19:18 pquirk, you got a fleet farm or a farm &fleet near you ?
I used to shop there all the time when I lived in WI but I don't think they have 'em here in Indiana, that's why Chipdog's uncle has no shoes!
Desertfox 17th January 2005, 20:27 Just about any sturdy leather boot will do. My ass stomping days are well behind me  Hell I even go riding with with my converse all Stars sometimes :)
Albie1200 17th January 2005, 20:31 I wear Doc Martens and love them. The air soles noticeably remove what vibration is not absorbed by the Kuryiakin pegs with the rubber strips. When I run to the store and just wear tennis shoes I can feel a big difference. The air soles also repel oil, fat, acid and alkalines. I found mine on the internet for $100 and after 2 years, there is just a couple of surface scratches on the leather. Another great thing about them is they are very comfortable walking around in, so I don't pack tennis shoes if I know I will be doing a bit of walking during a lunch break or what ever.

fleet farm , the mans mall , if they sold beer there men would never leave
willprevale 17th January 2005, 22:30 I've worn cowboy boots most of the time too.....and the leather soles seem to slide too easily on the oil patches left at stop lights and signs by other vehicles.
I forgot to mention, one of the first things I do is run to my local shoe repair shop and have work soles put on. That being said, I'm headin' over to ebay. I just gotta have boots like Billybadass1%asskinckingbikerdude. Just think of all them lovely ladies waiting to see my soles. :p
chupacabra 17th January 2005, 23:25 I like Doc Martens quite a bit for riding. The main pair I'm wearing now are a pair of steel toe 8761's I picked up just before Christmas.
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/536174/c/1670.html
The last pair I had where 8760's and they were nice too if you don't like the steel toe in the 8761's.
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/536721/c/1650.html
I've also got a pair of HD traditional 11" engineer boots I wear sometimes and they're great for riding, but they're not as comfortable when I'm going to be doing a lot of walking when I get somewhere.
I can walk around in Docs all day long and have no problems whatsoever.
I don't currently own any, but Chippewa and Red Wing make some great boots for riding too.
RedRider 17th January 2005, 23:36 I think the most important thing is to get a boot that fits your feet comfortably & gives support.
The brand name suggestions that we're giving are great, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will work for you.
I know people who swear by Doc Martins, but the pair I have bothers me so much that I hardly wear them. My wife loves her Docs.
The Wolverine Durashocks are supposed to be a super comfortable boot, but they are uncomfortable for me.
Pick something that feels good to you, not what we recommend.
cypher 18th January 2005, 17:29 You hit on something there RedRider!! Another piece of advice.....try on shoes at the end of the day, when your feet are a little swollen. They should fit you a little better that way.
jeebus 19th January 2005, 21:59 i got some harley boots that look like combat boots. they hit about mid-way. at academy sports they cost me around $80. i love these boots. i also wear steel toes for my job but prefer the harley combat boots.
Mountainrun 30th January 2005, 17:04 Yeah, but $40 don't get you power windows, or a shoe sole that says H-A-R-L-E-Y D-A-V-I-D-S-O-N. This is a nice little upscale feature when your in a bar fight. BillyBilly if ya really want to impress 'em, put some tiny blinking lights around the soles of your boots to light up the H-D logo and walk on your hands. :D Really, the ladies will love it!

What an idea! I'll look through the christmas lights and mayby find something I can use! I could also put some blinky lights around my Harley gloves! Mountainrun, you are very creative biker buddy!
Billy
Mountainrun 31st January 2005, 03:25 Yep, they have battery powered mini lights that should work just great. You'll be the Bling-Bling King of Bikerdom! :smoke
Phil R 10th February 2005, 15:18 I wear Cruiserworks pull on boots with a zipper on the inside. Expensive at around $250 but comfortable for riding and walking, waterproof leather and built for bikers.
SC_Compact 10th February 2005, 19:14 I just ordered a pair of Chippewa Harness Boots $145 with free Shipping. They sell for as much as $219 a pair. Chippewa's are made in the USA and are supposed to be some of the highest quality boots you can get. I tried on a pair of their Wellingtons at Cabella's and they seemed like fantastic boots. They were very thick and stiff leather so they will probably require breaking in but I hope to have them for many years to come.

GnFishn 12th February 2005, 01:57 Cruiserworks for me. I've had mine for nearly a year and can truthfully say they are great boots. Yes, they're a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Check their website for details.

Ditto on the Chippewas. But I paid a little more than you! I bought them last year, they are really made to last. Leather lining thruout. Stylish too.

VTRII 12th February 2005, 17:02 Be carefull with laces. I thought catching a lace on something was near impossible, until a few weeks ago at a light. I couldn't get my left foot off the peg. The loop in the lace wrapped around the shift lever.

Good one! :D
Nu Viking 17th February 2005, 06:41 With packer boots the laces are 3/4 way up your calf. if you get longer laces tie them of behind your leg . The biggest reason I like packers is the solid ankle support. In the event of an accident{GOD FORBID} one more solid item of protection. I am also sympatetic of items getting caught on footpegs, a reason I well never wair bellbottom jeans on a bike ever again
YankeePapa 17th February 2005, 17:28 Old Flight Boots for me. Throw a little polish on em' when thay get scuffed.
