Ok I scored a set of 883 Heads for my 2000 Sporty 883-1200 conversion. my main question is what can I do to the heads (other than port/polish) without having to change piston(I have the no head work weiscos)

No head work pistons are the dished style I gather... Use 883/1200 conversion valves as these are longer than the stock 1200 valves and will allow you to keep the small combustion chamber. Normal hot stuff aplies or just send 'em to Nallins or Headquarters.. ========================================== The compression ration with 883 heads will probably be over 12:1 If you are using standard height pistons then getting the seats taken out and sunk to use stock 1200 valves will give you close to a reosnable compression after clean up. You will need to check it. The 883 valves are longer than 1200's, so if ya sink stock 1200 ones in there you need to measure the protrusion on the spring side and sink the new valves in so the same amount protrudes. This is basicly what is done with 1200S and lightenin heads. edman 17th November 2004, 00:46 Ok I scored a set of 883 Heads for my 2000 Sporty 883-1200 conversion. my main question is what can I do to the heads (other than port/polish) without having to change piston(I have the no head work weiscos) You can have the larger valves put in, 2004 valves or stock 1200. Mark_Bench 17th November 2004, 13:39 Yeah from whay I understand the conversion pistons are dished so the compression did not go through the roof. I have a top notch former NHRA engine builder on staff and we have a full flow bench(I usually build car stuff) so portwork and and stuff like that ain't a problem. stevo 17th November 2004, 23:30 G'day Mark If ya guy is doing 2 valve car stuff then he'll be able go get these damn close to perfect... Just go with the 1200 conversion valves, there's a few mobs that make 'em....Black Diamond...etc Just check ya compression..what cams ya running??? |
