I am picking up my new 883 tomorrow morning (very excited!!!) and Im wanting to lower it. I have ordered a HD reach solo seat which will drop the seat height marginally. Can anyone offer me any specific information to further lower it!!!

First, welcome to the xlforum Aussiegirl. :D
Secondly, congrats on your new Sporty. :clap
Lets see, I know that there is a Sportster called the XL883L (883 Low) so I would imagin that you are looking for a lowering kit for the forks and shorter shocks for the back. You can order these either from an independent dealer or your local HD Dealership. When you lower the front end I would suggest you also get the shorter Jiffy stand as well. There is a lot of information on shocks and springs here. Most Sportster riders in this forum tend to go with Progressive shocks and springs. (I am one of them.)
The seat you talked about comes in two different flavors. The Reach which brings the riders position forward closer to the tank about 1" and slightly lower in the saddle. And there is the Reach Extended designed for use with the forward controls. Which one did you get?

Buy a pair of progressive 11" rear shocks and you are done. Do not lower the front, I have an 05 883 custom with the progressives in the rear and it ran fine. Then I lowered the front about 1.5 inches and the bike was almost unridable. By that I mean I had to keep it almost perfectly upright around turns or else I would scrape something. I also got stuck on every speed bump.
The kickstand on the custom is fine, it just doen't lean as much when you park it.

Thanks. My hubby checked out progressives for me yesterday. We will be visiting the local bike shop on the weekend I think. I think they have adjusted the front by running the forks through the tripple tree a little, maybe a 1/4 inch. Seems ok but what would I know, Ive hardly ridden it yet.

Congrat also on the new bike. I purchased a 1200C for the wife after she a) demo-ed an 883L and saw the color of the 1200 Custom she liked. Before I brought it home I had the dealer order and install;
#45938-92- Pipe Com, Bottom-2 each at 34.00 each,
#46267-05- Spring, 2 each at 18.95 each
Plus fluid and seals/rings. Labor was 5 hours ($374.00 US)
Then I purchased the Progressive 412 shocks #28-403 which are 11 inch from EBAY for 169.00 (Eastern Performance Cycles). If you cannot get those and really want them, the shop even though on EBay is only 10 miles ffrom house, I could mail them to you.
Bottom line, now the bike is as low as an 883L without the seat. Photo shows bike before shocks on back.
Hope that helps.

Camera108, what year is your bike. I was going to get them shocks, but they told me they would not fit a 04 or newer.

Bike (sportster) is an 05. I got the number from the receipt. It said they would fit on EBay and they do. I don't know. The box says Sportster models 77-97 but there is a "sticker" above it that says FXR/XL 79 UP. Under the sticker it is listed as 412-4005C but the box says 28403.
It came with a lot of "washers" and spacers that were not used. Just the one inside bushing in the "eye" and one washer, Otherwise the things stick way out and there is not enough bolt used. Works OK and nothing hits.
Hope that helps.
