So it's near Christmas and I want to help make my girlfriends Sporty handle better. I am gonna start with some good tires (perhaps a set of battle axes) but want to get the suspension working better too. Any suggestions?

Don't forget the small stuff when you analyze handling issues. Alignment, balancing, tire wear and pressure, bearing wear and proper adjustment, fork seals and oil, etc.
I love my Avon Venom-X tires and felt a big improvement when I installed progressive springs and damper to lower the front and shocks to lower the rear.

i would think a front fork brace, better fork fluid, new shocks, and tires could make a great improvement.

Do you have any height limitations????

Better handling can be achieved by lowering the front tubes in the triple trees (unless it's a hugger) and longer rear shocks...........

No height limitations but the bike is a hugger.

Can you be a bit more specific?

What, exactly do you want to fix?

Good tires in sets are ALWAYS a great idea....but what does she complain about?

Cantolina.... easy .......be carefull, you may not really want to know what she is complaining about. That might be better served on another forum. Haha

Go here:

http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/index.php?

Pick an appropriate section, and click NEW THREAD (top left)

Type your message and post!

Posting a pic involves having it on the web already, or posting it in the GALLERY (http://xlforum.net/photopost/index.php), and linking it in your post (in advanced mode...look under the white text box) using THIS button above the text box:

http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/567/insertimage.gif

After its uploaded right click the THUMBNAIL (important) you want to reference on the gallery, choose properties, and copy the location shown in the box (starting with http: )

Paste it into the box that came up when you clicked this:http://xlforum.net/photopost/data/567/insertimage.gif

now remove this (and ONLY this) from the address you pasted in that box: /thumbs

That will put your pic in your post...

Hope this helps....

She's not complaining, but her confidence is not there in corners. Riding beside her you can tell there is little suspension travel and it"s harsh.

I want to soften up the ride and get grippier tires on it.

How does this improve handling? I understand the longer rear shocks, but I don't understand lowering the front tubes.

less rake & trail (longer rear shocks do this too)

less trail means it's easier to turn the front tire
less rake means there's less straight ahead stability, so it's easier to turn

Simple. Add lotsa $$$$ and replace shocks/suspenion parts with P/M (Performance Machine/Works) parts. :banana

S&S intake stuff and tricked-out 2-1 exhaust. What's so hard about that?
