ok, here we go again. I tried this yesterday, but had probs w/ pics. I finally finished rebuilding my 1200c after a "friend" wrecked it and my kx250 (long story). Before the wreck it was a stock 1200c w 2 tone burgundy/black paint. After I saw it in pieces, I decided to build it the way it should have been built in the first place. I wont bore anyone by listing all the one offs and custom touches (unless asked of course). It took 2 years and alot of elbow grease, but its done. I am posting pictures so that i can get some good old honest feedback from fellow sportster nuts. Needless to say, now that its done I find myself wanting to do another one, so i guess you could say I'm hooked now. I look forward to spending LOTS of time on this site. I wish I had known about xlforum.net before i started this one. I have been on 2 days now and have found more useful info than i did on my own in 6 months. Keep up the great work, and THANK YOU ALL.

I forgot these pics with the project pics. I wanted to show off the HOK candy brandywine over wrinkled silver metallic w/ vivid black tribal "ghost" thorns. I know the pictures suck, I'll post better ones when i can. This paint took me over 200 hours all told. I could have probably done a simpler job for my fist whack at it, but then my wife would have nuttin to whine about. Keep in mind this is before final buff, so not as "wet" looking as it is now. I'm pretty happy for my first job, but will use a harder clear on my next project. HOK colors are awesome , but the clear is way too soft. I had to wait 2 months for the 26 coats of paint and clear to dry completely. Thanks for lettin me show off. YOU GUYS ALL ROCK!!!!

.mmmmmmmmmmmm chrome frame... ya don't see that everyday.....

looks better than a painted one too...

the chrome gives the colour of the reflections, so it sorta dissapears

I'm not a fan of coloured stock frames as the sporty frame doesn't have lines that flow with the rest of the bike......so I normally prefer 'em black so they just blend into the background and shadows

and I know how much work goes into these things............usually about ten times what ya thought it was gonna be :D

2 favorites on yer ride (Well, that I can SEE!)... I love yer Zbars, what sort of position does it put your arms when riding? I am TALL and want my bars to come back a bit farther than stock... LOVE the Z's, do they come back a bit more? If not, couldn't they just be twisted down towards the rider in order to make that happen?

Also, LOVE yer A/C... looks so hard. Its a mean looking ride, let us have a few more pics, I'd love to see it personally!!

That is a damn sweet looking bike.

Too cold to ride here. 23 degrees tonight. Ice everywhere today.

To celebrate you finishing up your project though, I'm gonna go out to the garage and fire "Pearl" up for a bit just to clear her throat and hear her rumble.

Suppose to start warming up a bit. I hope so. Me and some buds are hoping to do a Santa toy run this Sunday morning starting at Central Texas HD and ending up at the Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas.

Christmas is, or should be, all about the little ones I guess. Helping kids and an excuse to ride, hmmm . . . a no brainer maybe.

Keep the shiny side of that head turner up,

Looks sweet----I was gonna go with the Z bars but they were on backorder for ever and I wasnt paying 300 bucks for a set of $80 bars----V twin has them for $80 if anyone likes them---and yes after a 1 1/2 year backorder ,they came instock 3 weeks after I went with the Carlini 1 1/4" apes:smoke ------Now that my frame is out getting a single downtube +4", 5" out on backbone---and a 38 degree rake---Im gonna have to sell the Apes and cables with a whole 200 miles on them--They will be way to high now I think---Ill wait and see I guess----$225 takes the bars and Braided cables(Russel)----So Im gonna probably go with the Z bars now---cable might work also with the frame streach--I hope

I wanted to thank you all for your opinions. I'm sorry to take so long in posting a response, but have really had a rough couple months. to answer a couple of questions, first let me say that the z-bars are comfortable for me, they have about a 2.5 inch rise, and 3 inch pullback, and as they sit now are quite comfy. I am not nearly as hunched over as I was with the stock drag bars. I will be adding shorter risers, so that they dont ride so high (only to close the gaping hole between the bars and trees). It sounds like a bunch are on the fence, but I am happy as hell with the z-bars. I have now settled into my new place, and will work on getting more pics to show. After reading some of the comments, I think i'll take some advice and add a better set of pipes. I would again like to thank all of you for your feedback and opinions, I cant tell you how useful this site has been for me. I will be looking to sign up for premier membership asap. after spending some time here I feel comfortable enough, that I started another sporty project. I had so many parts left over, that it was just as easy to buy an ebay frame and re-use the old parts for another bike. I've been lookin at the cafe section quite a bit and am completely impressed with what you guys(and girls) have done with your bikes. Thanx again !!

to rotten ralph - the tank has given me no problems at all, its a one piece stretcher, and I acid etched(once) and kreemed the inside twice.

to PREDATOR - I wouldnt have asked if i wasnt prepared to hear what people really think, You have a sweet lookin scoot dude and I do truly appreciate the opinion, yours was actually the comment that pushed me off the fence and made my decision to go with different pipes, but I might just leave the z-bars on to urk ya!!

I love them----I wanna buy your upsweep pipes if your selling them-----I dont have time to read back ,why are you changing them??? Perormance issues I can only guess?:smoke :boxing My only opinion is to rake your neck and get rid of those dangerous raked trees--you will enjoy your bike so much more --If you dont go on the highway then ignore it ,but I cant stay off the freeway---I heard every opinion on all the forums about 7 degree trees on a stock sporty and its fine and I can control the squirrellyness and this and that but the only thing that counts is a trail # thats 4-6 inches Thats it ,no If and or butts about it-----I have 3 degree trees and wouldnt put one more degree of rake in the trees without raking my neck ,like I am doing--- I changed whos doing my work--Patrick Patterson from Led Sled Customs is getting my new frame tomorrow ----Heres a edited photo of whats it will look like:smoke It will have more rake 38 degrees with 3 degree trees and 6 over tubes I hope

to eastcoast, ha ha, fooled ya, nothin but factory rake on my bike. still workin w/ good ole hd rake and trail. I actually spent a ton of time mounting the gas tank at an angle and rotating the z bars in the risers to give the appearance of more rake. I have just completed plans for a stainless steel 2-1 custom mandrel bent exhaust w/ 3.75 inch twin spear outlet. I am only changing the risers on the bars, my intention is to lower the handlebars approx. 1" so they dont ride so far above the tank.
