Ever since I rode the new Buell Uly I've been thinking what a great bike it is for Oz conditions...........Over all it's not as good as the BMW gs series........but it has the fun factor that the gs lacks..[wheelies...stoppies and the like].........
I'd love to own one.......cept I dont have the $$$.........BUT......I've got one mate who wants to buy my SV..........and another mate thats got his eye on my Z 1000........If I sold my dirtbike as well I could have a Uly sittin in the shed...........:) ..........
I'm thinking about it.....[and thats always a dangerous thing with me]...:D .....
From what I can gather only one bloke on the forum owns a Uly???....but he never posts.........It'd be good to get some feedback from someone who's put a few miles on one.........I might have to check out badweatherbikers and see how their bikes are holding up...........any other suggestions for info from Uly owners????........

Indeed Mr Gronk.........that's the plan that is developing in my mind....:) ....
I'm also getting sick of paying all those rego's......plus our bullshit Victorian "safety levy".....:frownthre .........
If I went the way of the Uly I'd save a fortune in rego costs............See how my brain works??........I'm talkin myself into this deal....:laugh .........

Jack you been groping after one of them since they hit the street. I don't reckon you're going to be happy until ya get one. Sheesh, I thought all you Ozzies just pointed your nose and went. Is there certain parts of the country where folks are more prone hand wringing? ;) :D
I can tell ya this Jack, I get both Cycle World and Motorcyclist. Both gave the bike excellent reviews as a dual purpose machine, given it's limitations. CW can be slightly slanted in not wanting to bite the hand that feeds but it's been my experience that Motorcyclist does a pretty good job at being objective.
One of the mags, forget which one, did a dual purpose comparison (hey wait, you Oz boys would say "dualie comparo", I think I'm gettin' it) and while the BMW won out as the overall winner, the Ully beat it in I think off road handling.
It sure is pretty. And it sits right too.

Your right Gotwa,.........I have been "groping" :wonderlan after a Buellyses since they came out.......there's no hand wringing going on tho........just need to convert bikes to dollars....
Also want to see how they are holding up to mileage......being a new model an all.........I've been reading posts on adv rider.......so far everyones happy with them......but you gotta read between the lines as new bike owners tend to have newbikeitis.........need to see what they think of them once the honeymoon is over.......:)
Glad to see your learning ozinese........coz most of you sepos carnt unerstan a fuggin word us stralian cahns are talkin bout..:laugh .........Drink lotsa VB.....,chase lotsa women........take the piss outa your mates at every opportunity........and just generally make an asshole outa yourself...........It's the Australian way...:D .........you'll pick it up in no time.....:D

I have been lusting after a Ulysses, but this cold weather has made me realize it could only be a non-winter bike.
I NEED a windshield when it drops to freezing and below.......
Now, an E-glide and a Ulysses would make a fine stable of bikes.....

I'd call that a.....good start, D.J.! I want those two plus a Hayabusa, GSX'er, ZRX, BMW, of course another sportster, I guess one of the OCC type choppers just for shits and grins, a whole bunch of dirt bikes (for when the buddies come over), and I'm sure about 35 more I can't think of right now! But I like how you want to start your fleet! :D

seen a couple in the flesh and sat on one...... would be a Buell I'd put in the shed....
But I'll get the Tiger going instead..... seeing as I can do that for over 10 grand less than a new Uselessyses..
ya don't need a real off road bike anyway......but something a bit more robust with better suspension travel is a damn sight more suited to OZ conditions
We're slowly turnin Erik to the dark side.......it gets hard to cram the VB IQ points in their heads when they're stuck in Seppostan .... 'specially when half of 'em don't drink...
I mean have the Fug are ya supposed ta blame bein an asshole on the piss if ya don't drink????:cheers
and how ya supposed ta bond if ya sober..... I mean there's no way you'd dance around a bar arm in arm, shoulder to shoulder with ya mates if you were sober....poofs do that...:shhhh
but it seems more than just the yanks don't understand takin the piss outa ya mates.....ahh well ya can see why the British Empire crumbled.....they sent the convicts off to live in paradise, while they stayed in the cold, wet, dreary hole ......wait a sec!!..that sounds like Victoria.....:roflblack :roflblack

To get back on subject, there are 3 or more folks on the BadWeb getting a mysterious wobble when braking strongly. (out of thousands sold, so It is not widespread)
I'd hold off until they figure out the issue - you have time on your side.

Hey Jack, yesterday when the site was down and I was out parusing othre forums I came across some talk about the Ully. Early reports I saw where some complaints about turning radius and maybe some issues with the electric cooling fan. But each complaint was met with a counter shoot down. ANd of all the posters I think only two actually owned one. The others were just passing on "what they heard." Just thought I'd toss it out there as something for you to check out.
Poms? Two-headed passport scars? Damn, this Ozinese is harder than you think. :D

The bikes got alot going for it......fully adjustable suspension, power sockets, and the backrest/luggage holder thingy will take my slipon travell bag...........The main thing is that it will be able to handle our shitty roads and still have a BIG fun factor.....:D
Can you tell I'm keen.........:laugh

From what I can gather only one bloke on the forum owns a Uly???....but he never posts.........???
Guilty!
Answering the siren call of Uly cuts into my forum/posting time... Terrible riding conditions in North Florida, last ride (Jan 12) was 22c and clear blue sky, had to wear my vented jacket. (Cursed with clear blue and 10c today, 14th.)
Uly seems to run better and become more comfortable with each passing mile... My only complaint is a simple 20 mile trip to town often becomes another lost day. :tour
Only change to Ulysses is the addition of GIVI panniers... 21L Cruiser Bags.
http://home.alltel.net/flipr/images/xb12x_05.jpg
Panniers make life on the road more convenient... (rally/camping) hauling a few groceries into my cabin. But... I really prefer Uly without accessories.
Switched to synthetic (Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin) engine oil @ 2500 miles... I think "putting on the miles" does more good for engine than anything else. Nothing to really report... absolutely trouble free, add fuel when the light comes on (175 mile average), check the oil every other fill-up, check the tires (tyres?) and ride.

..Phil........glad to hear your happy with your Uly..........
..The only faults I noticed when I rode one was the seat height [but I could live with it] and the lack of steering lock.............
..Maybe Buell will address these issues on the next model.....?...
