What is the diference between 883 ignition module and 1200?? Are they the same? Is it true that the factory 1200 has a lower rev limit (5,200 rpm) in the
ignition module than the 883 (6,000 rpm). Please explain if I have to change module in my 883 to 1200 conversion, or maybe just use old one and change settings??

OK.. I'll have ta go back thru my notes to check on the rev limits...
But I do recall the advance curve is a bit faster on the 883 module than the 1200 from memory..
I've done quite a few 883-1200 conversion and never worried about changin ignition unless we were goin all out with flat tops and bigger cams and head work....
A mild build is no prob as you can adjust the timing with the hall sensor anyway..

On a mild conversion (dished 9.5:1, stock heads) '02, how much would you adjust timing? Will advance be OK at upper R's?

A few ways to set timing......
MPH figures down a drag strip ... will give ya the best top end..
Dyno figures ... again max power
The main thing I'd be looking for is low to mid acceleration....as the 883 curve is a bit more agressive than the 1200's
Get it jetted close and then ya wanna go for a ride and get it warm..
crack the throttle in top from around 1800 rpm...... keep sneakin a bit more advance in until it just starts to "ping" then back it off a couple of degrees...
another check is you'll feel the engine run a touch rough as the ignition advance becomes too much.....
If you experiment you'll gaina feel for what I'm talking about...
To adjust it drill out the 2 pop rivets and remove the cover...
Mark the plate and the housing with either a permanent marker or a scriber...
Movin the plate clockwise advances the timing and anti clockwise retards it...
