Upgrading an engine is like moving to another house... next time I'm paying someone else to do it for me

Almost done with the NHRS 883/1212 upgrade, need to hook up all the fuel and vacuum lines, and than hopefully not damage anything tomorrow when I attempt the "heat cycle"

My blood-red 19" 13 spoke wheel won't be going on for another month or two, when the rear wheel is complete (costs less to have both tires mounted at the same time)

http://s88365494.onlinehome.us/pics/FrontWheelRed_640.jpg

I was hoping to have the wheel coated black, with just the outside rim coated red. Would be fine painting, but according to the powder coater the heat would melt the previous color :(

-----------------------------------

Install Lindby Bar
Move PIAA Lamps and rewire to use a relay
Install mid foot controls
NHRS 883/1212 Conversion
Powder coat rocker covers, pushrod tubes, and shock tower covers
Change front wheel from 21" to 19"
Powder coat rear wheel to match (either solid cast wheel or a matching 13 spoke mag wheel)... may throw in a few misc parts while I'm at it
Misc parts: Replace front brake pads, replace both tires, install speed bleeder brake kit, Braided stainless steel brake line
SE Ignition Module if necessary
Repair paint on rear fender
Internal Handlebar wiring... thinking of skipping this
Red spark plug cables from MSD

The Lindby hasn't been on for very long... and I'm already tired of looking at it :frownthre

geesh... I was in the middle of typing and FTPing :p

The rest of this may have to wait till next fall or longer:

Floating brake rotor
Brembo brake caliper (and a new speed bleeder to match)
2:1 exhaust (wish my Japanese was better :shhhh )
Piggy back racing shock or at least shocks taller than my current 11.5"
New roll bag.... SAC bags suck! If I want droopy bags, I'll date older women
Powder coat primary covers, cylinders, and heads (assuming I tear the engine down for another upgrade at some point)
Chop rear fender
Custom LED brake/turn signals
And at some point I need to find a seat I like

Oh, and I've got to replace the enricher knob I keep braking. I don't think the crazy glue is going to hold thru the spring :doh

Hey Tick,

If you don't mind my asking- about how much is it costing you to have the wheels powder coated? I'm thinking of doing wrinkle-black this winter. Also, I'm assuming most coaters do the cleaning of the rim and masking off the bearing races/bolt holes, etc. Let me know, I'm trying to budget this out.

Cheers,
Luke

P.S. Those red rims look great. They would go well with whitewalls.

Thanks. He originally quoted me about $65 for the front wheel, but with the other parts I had done he only charged me $50 more for the wheel. I needed to do the initial cleaning of the parts with brake cleaner (mostly just to get rid of the oil). He took care of blasting. For the wheel he did some masking for the bearings, but just put bolts in place to keep powder out of the holes.

No whitewalls for me ;)

Wheels installed, came out good. Now I can just hose them off rather than having to polish them.... more time for riding :tour

Forcewinder XR is on its way. I haven't yet talked myself into paying $1k for the RB LSR Blackhole exhaust. The one I want from Sundance was for a different engine :(

Thanks. I'd settle for a winter thaw (I think that's mid-January)

I missed the mid-winter thaw last week, exhaust was off the bike :o

http://s88365494.onlinehome.us/pics/Forcewinder_smaller.jpg

Forcewinder is installed, though I still need route the breather away.
Also added some 1200S shocks (need to fix the paint near the top :frownthre ).

(I had to buy the forcewinder from a 2nd seller, as the first one was a smooth-talking moron. Wasted nearly 3 weeks of my time, cause he's too cheap to integrate his shipping department with his sales department.... I happen to be a Middleware Integrator :D ).

Still working on the exhaust. I'm looking for a used SuperTrapp to JetCoat black.

The scoot looks great, man!

I think it would look cleaner without reflectors on it, though....unless you're really attached to them.

You are doing a nice job with it!

I've considered removing the reflectors in the past, but they don't really bug me too much. Here's some things that bug me:

Getting a ticket for not having mandatory required reflectors
My bike getting hit by a car, while its parked somewhere dark
Two shades of black, cause the paint below the reflector isn't as faded as the rest of the bike

:D Just kidding. I figure they'll eventually fall off on their own. Actually there's a few things I've been meaning to remove, but have been to lazy to get to. That white key fob for instance. I'm not sure why the GPS is still on there (could've used it last week in the car)

Take a look at the choke knob I built. The thread about my little brass project is in the Finishing sub forum. It was really easy to do and is cheaper than a new knob mail order or a new one from HD I bet. You could probably put anything you want on the enricher pin. Drill a hole. tap it and put a set screw on it. Not much labor involved. :shhhh

Yeah, I know what you're saying...

I thought about that myself before I took mine off. In the end, I figured that the same people who are going to run a bike over probably are too clueless to notice a couple little reflectors if they can't see the bike in the first place. BTW, mine passed our annual PA state inspection without reflectors, but I was carrying them with me just in case! :smoke

Nice looking bike Tick. Didn't notice in your post, are you running the stock cams or did you replace those? I have the same NRHS 1212 conversion with T-storms. With stock cams and SE I's I was getting 76 Hp. A change to N4's and a 2 into 1 got me 87. Alot stronger 4 grand and up.

Too lazy to do the cams... that and without having headwork done, it wasn't suggested.

The stock D cams will work just fine for you. Very nice low end and flat torque curve with that combo.

I removed the sissybar and backrest from my detachable luggage rack. Looks much sleeker, but now the SAC rollbag can't mount to it. Will probably order a "Biker's Friend rollbag". I just got this trunk from JC Whitney today, its there new large model. Definetly would not leave it on all the time, but should be useful for touring. My 17" laptop's briefcase actually fits in this one... but I'm not sure if I could stand having this installed 5-days a week.

http://s88365494.onlinehome.us/pics/Motorcycle/Cycle_withTrunk.jpg

Waiting for my Supertrapp 2:1 to be delivered, so I can send it out for coating. Considering I may need to buy an alternate end-cap, additional discs, and the cost of the coating, it may not have been as good a deal as I thought. (maybe selling the heat shields will offset some of the cost)

For some reason the MOCO site says my detachable sideplates don't work with the 1200S. I haven't seen any clearance issues. I've compressed the shocks, and while close, they aren't close enough to hit.

I thought of something this week while speeding down M-59 and Telegraph in my car... my Sporty is looking fairly unique with the splashes of red. The cops and other commuters are going to recognize it day after day. I'm screwed :frownone

I returned the trunk to JC Whitney. I guess the SAC rollbags will have to suffice. Installed the SuperTrapp to verify fitament before sending out for coating. Started her up too... mmmmm.... nice thump. Not very neighbor friendly... I'll be switching to a closed cap in the spring. I'm replacing the Lindby with some highway pegs I bought off ebay.

Too bad its gonna snow shortly :frownone

My Jet-Coated SuperTrapp was delivered this morning, so I "worked" from home. Reassembled and installed.

http://s88365494.onlinehome.us/pics/Motorcycle/MotorcycleLatest.jpg

44+ degrees and a 30% chance of rain... I put the armor back in my jacket. I put all my gear on. I start her up, and it starts raining. No biggie. I let her warm up. Check the shifting and the brakes. And I'm off :tour Not even 5 miles from my house it starts snowing :censor

I still need to swap the SuperTrapp end cap to the closed model, and add some discs. I'm holding off on the ignition module, until after the break-in. I noticed too things during my short ride... these mid-pegs are going to take some getting used too and my front brake needs to be bled a lot more. I picked up some highway pegs, incase I do decide to pull the Lindby off.

For the Jet Coating I went with black cause I was going for a certain look. It scratches easily and doesn't have many options for general maintenance and cleaning. The Sterling-Silver is more durable and can be cleaned/polished similar to chrome. First impression after parking it... there surface temperature claims are highly-exaggerated.

I've already added coating the wheels black to next winters projects... which they were supposed to be (last minute change). I'd actually like to coat the entire bike with that black paint they use on the stealth bombers :smoke

Looks pretty sweet now. The rocker covers and push rod tubes look better now that the wheels aren't toned down.

Forks need to be coated black, but I'm holding off till I decide if I'm leaving them, getting dual brakes, or splurging for inverted (unlikely). A stretched fuel tank is on my list, but I can't decide if I want a custom paint job or just basic black. I was thinking of the pin striped screaming hog from Harley's fall collection, but I think I'd get sick of it pretty quick.

From the looks of my pants, it seems I'll be installing heat shields tonight :frownthre The K&N filter breather has to go as well, its dripping red filter fluid everywhere (maybe I overcharged it). Otherwise, the sound and performance seem great so far. Can't comment on handling yet...
