well i picked my new seat up today from the dealer. The sundowner two up seat i know there are a lot better options out there but for the price i felt it was the way to go, that and the dealer had thier 15% off sale that made the price a little better.
i will ride in the morning if it stay's dry but my first inpression is it looks just like the stock seat with pillion pad only its one peice. The foam feels the same i asked the parts guy if he was sure it is the sundowner of course he says yes but it doesnt say sundowner on it. the part # 51509-04 is for the sundowner two up seat;
soooo i gues we will see i hope to have a big diference for my wife
ride report tomorrow

My wife loves the sundowner. It should be alot wider than the stock seat. I also got her the tall sissy bar and she said she can ride all day now. I throw the solo seat back on when I ride alone. I really dig the look of the rear fender with the solo seat. I got the best of both worlds now.

well, A sundowner is no where close to a stock seat looks or size... just look at the harley accessories web page and see that.

ok just got back from a 20 mile or so ride went down dixie to the Ohio Valley Drag strip (an 883 will wheelie by the way) (no i'm not real smart) it was a mild 38f not real bad at all.
anyway i was real worried the seat would be the same as the stock just a little wider. It is wider but just a little down the road i noticed i was sitting in more of a hole (for lack of a better word to discribe it) some may not like that but i found it very comfortable. the seating position is simular to stock but your butt can tell its a better made seat.
my wife wouldnt go (she thinks i'm not real bright for going on a ride when its not 70+) but the pasanger seat is a lot wider i didnt put my sissy bar (i know jamman) back on yet becouse i need someone to hold the pasanger seat in to get it back on
All in all i am happy with it we will see about longer trips in the spring
oh here is a pic showing why i thought they were so close to the same

I second the kudo's for the Sundowner seat. I had a delux touring on my 02, and now have the sundowner on the 05. as far as I am concerned this seat is a bargin for the comfort it supplies.

Yes it will fit although it looks a little out of place (I'll get a pic up later). I have the sundowner on an 04 custom with rigid sideplates/mini rail/mini pad that I loved with the stock seat but will probably get rid of soon with the sundowner. I also find it harder to tie stuff to the mini rail when I do trips so I will probably have a low rail on soon.

I appreciate the info. I am looking for more comfort for me and the wife since she loves to ride with me. My ass is fine on the stocker but her butt gets sore on it. I might just go ahead and get me a low rail too. Will the mini pad fit on the low rail?

My wife loved our Sundowner, but now she rides her own bike.
We'll see if the magical Mad Caw sheepskin will lure her back.

I think according to HD it won't fit. Originally I was looking at a low rail but I wanted the mini pad cause the other pads looked too big. I'm sure with a little inginuity it would be possible to make it fit though.
I'm off to take some pics and if I can figure out how I will have them up soon.

I have an 04 Custom and the Sundowner seat. Wife and I love it too.
I had a "medium low" sissy bar with pad and detachable plates and it seems like it came right to the edge of the seat.
I have since gotten the Low and its taller than the medium low? Anyway, the taller one of the two is more comfortable.
As far as getting the sissybar back on and owning a Sundowner. I HIGHLY recommend removing the seat, THEN putting on the sissy bar, THEN the seat.
I have scratched up my turn signal arms trying to put the sissybar on with the Sundowner already on the bike.

So I got the pics and even took it apart to see how it mounted. This week I think we are mounting a big sucker on my buddies bike and he has a low rail so I will see if the mini pad will fit his. The mini rail has a tapped hole in the underside of the top that a mounting bracked attaches to. The pad come with a chrome plate and they screw together on either side of the bracket so if the length of the low isn't much wider than the mini I think it should work.
Before anyone says anything, I plan on getting some Goo Gone to get the reflector goo off. Sad to say that has been there for around a year but when I ride I don't see it so I don't care so much.
edit: I don't feel like figuring out how to post a pic here so I started my gallery

I actually like the way it fits and looks. The sundowner is indeed for long haul comfort. Thanks again. It's good to know that the mini rail and pad fit with the sundowner. Let us know when you get the low bar and mini pad.

After looking at my buddies sissy bar I realized it is a different style than I thought. His comes to a peak on top and has a plate in the middle so the mini pad wouldn't fit his at all.

Either way, the wife enjoys riding with my at times and I will have to get a more comfortable seat. For me, the stocker works just fine but I am looking at the Sundowner and or the Mustang Fastback (more padding on the 2-up section than stock but still has the stock low profile look)...

I bought a sundowner a few weeks ago, love it and wife loves it also, I have the medium sissy bar/back rest, now she complains the sissy bar is too low. Anyone have an ideas where I can find a higher sissy bar besides the stealer.

I have had one for 2 years and love the seat. Longest ride was 450 miles in 1 day. Got back on the next day and did another 300. Could not do that with the stock seat.

I feel like I am just adding more "ink" to what has already been noted, but after a long ride today, I can say the Sundowner is more comfortable. :sofa :sofa :sofa Kinda like a nice sofa.

I had the sundowner on my '04, I am thinking of taking the seat to a shop to see if the 'pad and cover' can be moved to the '07 seat frame (switch it).
If this would work, it would save some money, otherwise I will have to sell my '04-'06 sundowner and buy an '07.

I just bought the Sundowner for my '07 1200L. I'm 5'4" and small. The dealer assured me that I would get better back support with this seat. My concern is a change in the center of gravity. It's too cold to ride here right now. Any thoughts?

Got the Sundowner too and like it on long rides as my Deviltips solo can make the butt just a little tired after 150 or so miles. Got no problems staying on the Sundowner all day. Just like the looks of my solo and the rear fender exposed.. Pic of the devil tip in my gallery

Great seat. It is much more comfortable than the stock seat with the added pillion. The wife doesn't complain anymore on those 300 mile days. Well not too much.
