That's what I've been waiting to hear!! :banana
khaskins 29th March 2008, 03:38 I didn't want to wait so I made my own. Just seperated the bags that I had. They are cheap but it works. I'll visit the leather store down the way and see what they have.
Maybe I can buy the Licks one since it is leather.
Billsxl1200c 6th April 2008, 14:13 Brad,
Nice looking seat! What kind is it?
Brad 6th April 2008, 14:43 Nice looking seat! What kind is it?
I got it from Licks. It's a West-Eagle, but they call it a Slimline Spring Solo Seat (http://www.lickscycles.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=33&products_id=1195). I think there was a thread earlier about a dude who got the same seat from a different vendor, but he had problems with the mounting kit. Mine was an easy bolt on.
Remember though ~ with that 2008, you have a big brick under your seat called and ECM. It's gonna show if you run a spring seat...

Thanks! I was reading a post about how to relocate the brick, I don't know if I really want to go through all that. Your bike looks great!
Brad 7th April 2008, 04:48 Just ordered my bag!!!:banana
Not sure of the scale or the location of the mount, so I guessed with a little help from photoshop! Will repost when I get the real thing!
<edit>mockup #2 based on my call to Licks. Still mostly
guesswork on my part, so don't go by what you see here</edit>

GrumpyCoyote 7th April 2008, 04:59 Great news - they need to put size/location up there on the website. @ 200 bones, I'm not going to guess...
Post the pix when ya get it.
Folkie 7th April 2008, 08:25 Why is it for 2007 and up (http://www.lickscycles.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1542&osCsid=9ca49b4731d71b9230dcedea28d3e7f6) bikes only?
Brad 7th April 2008, 10:04 Damn - missed that. I'll call them today.
Lickscycles 7th April 2008, 13:12 hey guys...we do have a finished bag....1st one already out to awating customer in cali.....in such a hurry to get out we forgot to measure final measurements of bag.....but will when our 1st batch is done shortly.....although it does have the same if not a bit more interior capacity of the 03 and older bags...as for position of the bag.....its actually mounted below the left side panel cover....in the triangular open space in front of the rear shock towards motor...over swingarm.... in japan alot of the hardcore guys run their bags low...and it looks bitichin....we did it this way cause of looks...and quite frankly......seemed the best place to go as the cover on 07-08 is a snap on not bolt on...and wouldnt have held the bag the way we wanted....have some mock pics we will try to get up if they came out ok....thanks again........
Lickscycles 7th April 2008, 13:18 sorry for the typo on site and last post...but the bag fits 04-08 xl......built this bag with the solo rider in mind...with that said...depending on how u mount...u may have to loose or relocate rear peg......
Brad 7th April 2008, 17:53 I talked to AJ today and it does fit my '05, so I asked him to ship mine asap! I got a good idea where it's going to go and I'll update my photoshop job after work!
If all goes well, I'll just take a pic of the real thing soon enough.
And if you want to see it in person, you can join us on 5/17 for the run to the Relay for Life (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?t=165843)!
:banana:banana:banana
Dlish 7th April 2008, 18:02 brad how long is shipping??? I better be seeing it on sunday for the strip poker run.hahahah
Brad 7th April 2008, 21:34 Edit - updated prototype pic on post #9. This is still conjecture, but its based on more info. (Called the shop today)

Lickscycles 7th April 2008, 22:02 hey brad.....u nailed the pic in photoshop....here it is mocked up on an 08 too..........
Trynot2die 8th April 2008, 03:52 That is exactly what I need. Better get to saving.
jpenney 8th April 2008, 17:32 I just ordered mine! Seeing the pics finally pushed me over (and having some extra money come in). This will be great to carry the few things that end up in a backpack: face shield, alternate gloves, camera, and registration info.
jacob1 12th April 2008, 18:05 That looks preety cool!!! Any new updates from the guys that bought them? Also how do they mount to the bike? (bolts , Ties ,??? )Thanks.
Brad 12th April 2008, 23:20 Still waiting for mine. Hope to see it this week, but I have no info. It might have been a pre-production order. I'm sure they'll get it to me as soon as they can. I'll post pics and info then!
jsibur 13th April 2008, 20:21 Great looking bag, price seems awful high.
Lickscycles 13th April 2008, 21:22 actually compared to whats out there...which is currently nuthin for a cool barebone solo bag....our price on the solo may be a bit low...being we design/make the bags here in the states...and keep contol of quality...we really dont see the price as too high...if demand stays the way it is....the set price may be right on target...............aj
drummerboy4as 13th April 2008, 22:49 Any chance you could make one without the "Indian head quarters"? Maybe just some black buttons or something?
Lickscycles 14th April 2008, 00:57 we can do our new solo without the nickleheads upon request,....call the shop if interested.....aj
Oli1200 16th April 2008, 21:19 Thought I'd post a fact: Licks Cycles is quite expensive. I would buy this new solo bag but like other stuff you guys offer that I would probably buy, your prices scare me away to seek an alternative.
Technically I could afford your new $200.00 little solo bag, but I simply wouldn't pay that price out of principle.
Dlish 16th April 2008, 21:46 if you search the web Im sure you might find similar products for less money. BUT...
1. read the post that AJ posted above and keeping production in the states and very close quality control.
2. i will pay a premium everyday of the week for Lick's customer service.
my newest licks addition was some kick ass blue flake grips and they rock, need a new camera though...

I agree, I think it's pretty close to robbery too :D But hey, if I owned a business and people were willing to pay it...hell yeah, I would sell it at that price too.
Lickscycles 17th April 2008, 02:03 unfortunately the cost of doing business today isnt so cut and dry....our prices are determined not only by the part or parts we sell....but also what we offer before and after the sale and in future sales to repeat customers...daily i am reminded on how customer service is lacked in this industry....from tech help to just plain old advice or opinion....unless u have been a customer of ours...as the saying goes...."u just wouldnt understand"....we never intended to be the walmart of the sportster industry....our main goal was to be the best place to go for cool parts for ur sporty....not the everday stuff...but unique..."anything but ordinary".....so if u judge a business based strickly on cost of a product...we might not be for u...there are many others out there that will take ur money...and not be there later if u need em......that being said....the cost of the solo bag was determined by many hours of mock up and prototype design to get not only the function but esthetics to flow with the bikes..not to mention the unsurpassed quality of our leather maker here in the good ole USA.....im not here defending our prices for our parts...they are what they are....hopefully....i can just open up a few more eyes on how we operate here at licks cycles...
Brad 17th April 2008, 02:08 I might have been put off by the price if it were not for previous experiences with Licks' products and service. I'm confident that I'll be pleased with this one too.
;) (now hurry up and ship it so I can post pics!)
Terp84Alum 19th April 2008, 00:33 AJ,
You've got some nice stuff. Can you tell or show us how it mounts?
jacob1 19th April 2008, 01:02 Well how long does it take to get one? It seems to be taking a while from the post on here?
Lenster 19th April 2008, 01:12 I will always pay a premium for something that is a unique, high quality item. I dislike cheapo stuff - it never lasts like it should. Then you buy the higher quality item to replace you pos that broke or wore out before its time. So in the end, it is less expensive to buy the higher quality and yes higher priced item. Besides, what have you ever bought for your Harley that wasn't expensive? My $0.02.
ShadenGheist 19th April 2008, 01:49 How wide is the rear facing section of the bag? Looks to me as if it might make a nice License Plate mounting location. A little bit of reinforcement on the inside of the bag... ;)
Lickscycles 21st April 2008, 01:24 the rear section of the rubber sporty bag is about 3 3/4-4" wide x 11" high
Terp84Alum 21st April 2008, 01:27 What is special about the 04-06 frame where that goes? Why won't it fit my 02? That is a sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet bag.
Brad 21st April 2008, 01:30 I'll take some pics when I mount mine. IT'S IN TRANSIT NOW!:banana
The '02 bag is pretty cool too though...

Terp84Alum 21st April 2008, 01:32 Man, they've got some nice stuff. Is this a new business?
Brad 22nd April 2008, 02:46 Just got in - I'll mount it this week. I'm really happy with the quality. This thing is heavy duty! The leather is thick and stiff. Mounts to the upper frame, backbone/downtube, and footpeg or swingarm. I'll have it mounted for the weekend, then I'll see how much crap I can put in it!:wonderlan
Note - the lighting makes the buckles look iffy, but I can assure you they are bright and shiny!

:banana:banana:banana Can't wait to see it mounted up!:wonderlan Hey, before you mount it, can you lay a bike sized license plate on the rear facing side of it? I'd like to know how well one would fit. Thanks!:smoke
NYSportster 22nd April 2008, 03:19 Can you take a picture of the back? Are there more than one way to mount it? Because I have passenger pegs that I'd need to keep on. I hope you can mount it with passenger pegs on.
Scooter_Trash 22nd April 2008, 03:29 AJ,
is there any reason why this won't fit a '99? Maybe a little fabbing would be needed, but it looks like it should just fit right into place.
Brad 22nd April 2008, 03:30 As requested. With 4" x 7" PA plate. It won't mount straight against the leather, but I think you could space it out about 1/2" or so with some spacers. It's just a little wider that the bag.
And a shot of the back. As for the footpegs, I won't know for sure until I mount it later this week. I don't think the footpeg will be accessable, but I'll let you know.
No more pics until it's mounted! If ya wanna see it in person, join me on the Relay for Life run (http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/showthread.php?p=1217653#post1217653)!
NYSportster 22nd April 2008, 03:38 Thanks for the pics.
bdorr67 25th April 2008, 02:32 Got my Solo Bag in and mounted it. You can read the review and see more pics on my blog.

Trynot2die 25th April 2008, 02:51 That thing is suweeet!
I am VERY HAPPY with this bag. I'll take some pics tomorrow, but I've gotta say that I consider this money well spent. The leather is heavy duty. The three point mount is rock solid. The bag is as big as it can be, while being small enough to not look out of place.
:banana:banana:banana
I know sometimes I sound like a shill for Licks, but they have never let me down!
Buy this bag! (or don't... I don't want everyone to have one!)

glad u dig it....we have been getting great feedback from all of u who bought one.....thanks to all of u that support licks cycles and give us a chance to keep bringing u cool parts................aj
johnnybgood 18th May 2008, 17:44 I'm still a little confused about the mounting system. Can you, or can you not, still use your passenger pegs?
Is one mounting point actually the swingarm?
John
I couldn't mount it where I wanted and retain the rear footpeg. But, there is a lot of flexibility with how you mount it. There are two nylon web straps. The top goes under the strut cover. The bottom (on mine) went right where the swingarm pivot is. The main part that hold the weight is a leather strap that attaches to a frame member near the bottom of the battery cover. I think there is some room to play with it if you wanted to keep the passenger footpeg. Plus, you might be able to do something to move the footpeg too.
For me, it seems that it might be doable, but it would be tight, tight, tight.
If you had come up on Satruday, you could have seen it~:p

Can you photoshop that bag on my bike? I'd like to see what it looks like with a side cover other than black.
John
Folkie 19th May 2008, 01:10 Not looking for pics, are you? :roflblack
Here it is - after a 900 mile trip to Jacksonville. (I used a roll bag too!:)) Worked great. I think it's a keeper!

johnnybgood 29th May 2008, 02:12 Finally got a pic. :p
I like that bag. Guess I'll have to save some bucks and get me one.
Did 'ya eat some Oysters down in Florida?

hunter_aran 22nd June 2008, 17:06 Does anyone know if you can get it with contrasting piping (like the solid mount one) or with a metalflake flap? I think it would be really cool if the top had design options like an inlaid skull, iron cross, flames, etc. I am definately looking at this one too.
Brad 22nd June 2008, 17:16 They list red piping on the website as an option ($15 US) Not sure about the other mods you asked about.
iiweeldman 28th June 2008, 18:15 You can get different color piping, you would have to call Licks to find out, and there may be an additional charge. I am not sure what else you can change as well.

kweeksdraw 28th July 2008, 17:00 Hey Folkie. Sorry about the late response. Haven't visited here for awhile.
Anyway, the seat is a C&C. At first I wasn't sure I was going to like it because it sat me further back than what I was used to. But now after having put a few miles on it, I would have no other. Excellent quality and good price!
Kweek
Folkie 28th July 2008, 19:34 Thanks. That's good news, and bad. Bad because they won't ship to the UK, apparently. :frownthre
glennster 16th August 2008, 02:27 that is so cool.... what can you put in that solo bag? can you fit a jacket?
Brad 16th August 2008, 04:28 that is so cool.... what can you put in that solo bag? can you fit a jacket?
A small nylon one, maybe a denim. But I love it. I carry a stuff sack and bungies in it, so I can tye on whatever I buy!
glennster 17th August 2008, 20:00 is there any stores here in CA carry lick's solo bag?
Folkie 17th August 2008, 20:08 Don't you have to get it from Licks?
