Ok.. Well.. My personal preference is for full face and my old HJC has served me well but she's gettin on past the "safe" age for a helmet and I'm still a little bit torn between full face and the modular lift-up models. But I think I'm leaning to the modular.

If anyone has some opinions on good brands for these I'll take 'em. What are some good ones that are recommended. Even what are ones to stay away from.

Thanks in advance.

I love my HJC modular (Symax, also H-D sells it under the "System" name).

It is somewhat noisy (the wind) but I love being able to talk w/people, or sneeze, or whatever. I "assume" a regular full-face might be quieter, but I don't know.

Have two HJC Symax's. Like them alot for the sames reasons as DustyJacket. I always wear ear plugs so the noise really is not an issue for me. Haven't worn any other style so can't relate any comparisons. Picked a modular because was afraid of claustrophobia witha full face.

Hmm, . . . wore a full face back in the early '80s. Mandatory helmet law in the state I lived in at the time. Can't remember the brand.

Bought the 1200c in Sept. and b/c I felt comfortable, and safer, in a full face way back when, decided that was the way to go.

Well, wound up buying a modular "Fulmer Modus" that I like a lot. It's flat balck and, when closed, it looks pretty much like a non-modular full face. It's pretty cool to be able to pull up the whole front of the helmet to talk to a riding bud, adjust your sunglasses, etc. And puting it on and taking it off is easier.

Also recently bought a "Fulmer Hombre" half helmet. Also flat black. I like it for the wind in the face but it's not as areodynamical as the modular and tends to catch wind and whip my head around a bit.

My favorite is to ride with just the do rag which I occasionally do much to the wife's chagrin. (no mandatory helmet law here in Texas). But I guess it's best to keep somethng coveing this little pea brain of mine so I usually find myself wearing at least the half.

I've been happy with the modular versus a standard full face.

Hmmm.. Looks like HJC might be the way to go then.
Never had any complaints about my current full face.

Checked their website and there is a distributor with a full warehouse about 25 miles from me..

Shold be a nice ride to go try on some helmets. :)

I "assume" a regular full-face might be quieter, but I don't know.I've got one of these too, but I rarely wear it because of the noise. It is convenient, but even in cold weather I prefer my 1/2 and a balaclava to that thing because of the wind noise.

I've had a Symax for two weeks now and it replaced a two year old HJC CL-14. My Symax is quiter than my CL14 was and a little lighter too. It fits better and is more comfortable also and I love the flip front. My only complaint is that I thought I could put my helmet on over my glasses but I can't. The cheek pads are too bulky and my glasses get pushed down. This is a minor gripe and I can live with it. Some reviewers of this helmet complained of the face shield opening when they turned their head at speed but so far this hasn't happened to me. IMO a great helmet, I love it.

I got a 3/4 Arai w/ full sheilsd. It suits me well enough. Much better feild of view. I also have a full face. I reckon the Modular is a happy medium between the two but I love my 3/4 (the visor comes doun below my chin).
Hey Ralph, is Georgetown still have that small town charm? I gotta cousin the lives up there and a daughter in Round Rock. Ain't been there in about 15 yrs. or so. Sure would like to make it back someday. I went to high school in Round Rock, Class of '87.

I have the KBC modular, the one that is aerodynamicly shaped and balanced so you can ride with it in the open position. I would not buy it again. The chin pading is good, but the padding at the top of the head is thin and insufficient. Its very uncomfortable after 40+ minutes of riding.

Talking is overrated. Skip the modular feature :D

I had a HJC symax. During the third season of using it I was riding and it wouldn't flip up. Ended up being the mechanism to unlatch the flip up part broke. It was simply a wire that had snapped. Not to happy about that.

Replaced it with a kbc ffr flip. Got it during this summer and i have no complaints so for.

I wear ear plugs so cannot comment about noise.

A good review of 7 different models of modular helmets. I have an HD one and a Zeus. THe HD is much nicer.
