I found this photo in a book about Knuckleheads and it caught my eye. I am interested in what people think it would look like on a Sporty with solid wheels.
I know that the Knucklehead is more thought of as the ancestor of the BT but as they were produced in 60 and 74 cu" I think that there is some connection.
I will appreciate the feedback.

Best thing about Harleys...both the BT and Sportster is that while they have improved greatly mechanically thru the years, they tend to keep their basic design shape. Hence the modern BT 'Heritage Softails' and of course the Sportster.
You can look at that old Knucklehead and picture it on your modern Harley and get a good idea as to how it will turn out before you ever pick up a paint gun.
While there are some basic differances in the frame design and tanks....there are just as many similarities. Your Sportster should look pretty good using that paint scheme. I would say that it would give your Evo a nostalgic look to it. Which is cool to me.
I have seen soild painted wheels and similiar paint designs on Sporties over the years. Some were done well while others were a bit half-ass. Needless to say, you should layout your paint scheme on paper to get a better idea as to what works. Better to get it right now before you pick up the paint gun or worse, pay someone to screw it up for you.
Roger, you've given me an idea for a new Paint Thread How-To...I think I'll post it over this weekend. :cool2

I think that looks awesome ... hmmmmm ... I love the old days. Paughco has an exhaust like that for Sporties too.

What appear to be soild wheels on the knucklehead are actually steel covers, similair to a full hubcap for a car wheel.
These were a 'custom accessorie' of their day. They would clamp/bolt onto the Harleys original wire wheels.
This look can be duplicated with the Modern Stock or Aftermarket solid steel or aluminum wheels.
Paugcho makes hundreds of exhaust systems. They also make hardtail frames for Sportsters that can be orderd in an almost endless variation of rake/stretch. Plus a large range of Springer front ends too!! You can go on-line to www.Paughco.com

My attitude about customizing and painting is that it only has to satisfy the guy that rides it. (Unless you are trying to pick up chicks). The retro look works great on a Sportster is done as a consistent theme.
