i was just curious becuase my 06 1200r is getting a rebuild with only 1500 miles on it due to the compensator sprocket coming loose and chewing the crank.its all warranty work so it will be free labor i know the 551 cam will work well but everyone seems to hate the noise.im thinking if i lived with the noise of a loose compensator nut wich i was told by one dealer is "normal noise"it sounded like a loud garbage disposable with a few pennys thrown in.i could probaly deal with the clatter of the 551.some are suggesting i use the 536 cam instead but im not sure they will bolt in to the 04-06 bikes anyone know first hand?im also gonna go with the SE 10.5-1 forged pistons wich i think are used in the buells, thanks for any input

I have .536's in my 04. They went in without any clearancing, and the stock 04-up springs are up to the task, but watch the valve to piston clearance on the stock pistons, particularly on the exhaust side. Not sure on the SE piston. That piston is not used in the Buells, forged pistons are much too pricey for production bikes, they have a cast piston that gives 10:1.

Stock 04-up 1200's have "W" cams, same as the 1200S came with dating back to '96. Stock 04-up 883s have "D" cams, same as all 91-03 1200's and 883's (except the 1200S). Both are really mild grinds.
