Picked up a 21" spoke wheel and just got a tire for it for Christmas. Also picked up a tube and band for it. Have never changed one myself, though, and the tutorials i'm finding online are mentioning a "rim lock?"

Does a 21" Harley spoke wheel use a rim lock (or maybe all spoke wheels do?) - I can't tell from the pictures I've found if the rim lock is where the valve stem slides through, or if it should have its own hole in the wheel to come through.

Thanks!

Well, I've changed a bunch of tires by hand but never used
a rim lock, whatever that is. My guess it'st a plastic/rubber piece
that fits over the rim that prevents the bead from slipping while mounting.

Sometimes the bead willl slide off the rim in a place you just finished
as you work your way around.

What ever they are referring to it is NOT part of a stock wire rim.

There are a bunch of sites that help you with changing the tires.
Do a dogpile or google search.

My advice... Go slow, use rubber lube for the bead.
Use tire talc for the tube and the inside of the tire.
NAPA will have both.

make sure you get a set of spoons,(tire irons) to change it with , screw drivers will poke the tube, Replace the tube if you pinch it, not worth risking your hide on a patch...

Why do it yourself if you buy the tire from the dealer they install it for free.

My dealer mounts whatever I bring him....no big deal..

But, especially with spokes, I like to have the rim trued before the tire is mounted, so I just let them doit...

Doesn't cost enough to justify the headache....for ME....

Rim locks are used on dirtbikes for the rear tires. Otherwise, sometimes the knobby will get a better grip on the earth than the bead of the tire gets on the wheel, and the wheel will rotate when the tire stays put--bad ju-ju. And the majority of tire-change sites on the internet are probably for dirtbikes.
