Hello,
I'm rebuilding a Buell Thunderstorm motor and I want to bump up the power a bit. So I'm looking at some cams and some minor head work and depending on how the cyliders look, I might go with the Buell piston kit (.005 oversize).
I plan on installing a dual carb setup with two 30mm carbs (top/bottom mount) which are setup as a staggered primary/secondary. The primary has a pump and the secondary is vacuum operated and kicks in at about 1/3 throttle. They are tunable and come with 3 sizes of changeable venturies.
The choice of cams is a bit of a stumbling block. I'm tempted to go with the Hi-perf SE .536 cams. I hear a lot of good things but I don't know if they are good for me. I don't plan on running at high throttle all the time. This wiil be a street bike. I'm looking to beef up the torque curve and if possible boost the bottom and mid range. Can anyone make any suggestions that will work well with this setup?
Keep in mind I plan to use a modified Buell header. Instead of wrapping around the front it will come down the right side to the sprocket cover. The collector will slip into a Vance&Hines SSR2 muffler. This should increase the flow well. I don't know if it will work well with the SE .536 cams.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Peter
