Dear Forum Buell Experts,

I am hoping I didn't just make a costly mistake but I just purchased a set of 2004 Buell XB1200R cylinders to use in a Buell top end conversion on my Sportster.

OUESTIONS:

ARE the cylinders the exact same bore dimensionally on the XB1200R and the XB1200S?
Are they the same height?
Are there any differences between these two cylinder sets at all?
Will the XB1200S heads go on the XB1200R cylinders?
Considering the XB1200R cylinders are stock bore with only 5,000 miles on them can I just get the cylinders professionally honed and install a new set of stock bore XB1200S pistons and rings? As always I appreciate all of the generous help and information that is given by the members on this forum.

Best regards,

FiftySixer

Thanks jmr1283,

My cylinders are going to be on the way to NRHS for aq bore job along with the matching Buell Heads for decking. I'm hoping I make make the stretch for A STAGE 1 HEAD JOB in the next week.

Thanks for your reply.

Best regards,

I am sure also that they are the same, the only differences I know of are cosmetic ones. You can get all black or highlighted fins or silver etc. I did get mine honed and put new SE10.5-1 pistons in them without boring oversize. It is recomended that you get them bored if you have a choice but with low miles it is not as critical. But that is assuming that your cylinders are straight and round within reason. Which as I have read is not always the case even with new cylinders.

The Buell XB12(and 9) cylinders are *almost identical to rubbermount XL1200 cylinders. FYI the XB cylinder heads aren't drilled and tapped for the XL breather bolts, and the other dif from earlier cylinders/heads are the larger cooling fins(cosmetically).
PS- you didn't make a costly error, but to use those heads on your XL, you need to have a machine shop drill and tap the breather lugs for use on your XL.
