Personally, I would never change the oil without changing the filter. With that said, your oil capacity is most likely 3 quarts so 3 litres will probably do. Run your engine to get all the oil out of the sump, normal warm up time should do it.
Drain the oil and put in the 3 litres if it will take it. Start engine again and watch for the oil circulating in the oil tank. Add the rest of the oil if necessary to bring the level in the tank up to the full mark on the dip stick. Have the bike up, not on jiffy stand when checking level.
Good Luck

There is no point to changing oil without changing the filter.

On my 2005 1200C, the correct way to check the oil is with it ON the jiffy stand, NOT up and level.
However, it may be different for other years...
I know for a fact jiffy stand on 2005 1200c's...

Change the filter ALWAYS. Just doesn't make sense not too.

If the manual calls for 3 quarts [or 3 liters] initially put in just 2,1/2. Then run the engine, then check the oil level; top it up if necessary. Most likely 2,1/2 will fill it [almost] right up and 3 would be too much. Some of the old oil is still in there. Also, do not worry about getting every last ounce of that old oil out.

The manual for my 05 883 says to check oil level with bike leaning on the jiffy stand. By the way, why is it called a jiffy stand instead of a kick stand?

It was invented in 1706 by Sir Edmond Jiffy. :roflblack No, actually I have no Idea why they call it that. Where I grew up it was a kick stand or a side stand.
