Okay... I am getting old and am not as strong as I used to be... but I just can't get the hole on the new mustang wide vintage to come anywhere near the stock seat post...
Does the mustang just sit on top of the post, or am I doing something wrong...
The tongue on the mustang is not as long as the stock seat... but I bought the seat for sportys 04 and later...
I have an 05 XL883L... I hope it will work cause the ten days has long passed...

This is the first thing I have tried to do on my own... and it seems so simple!!! Except for me that is... :frownone

You didn't get the seat that was desgined for 4.5 gal tanks by accident, did you?

Nope, just double checked and it is for the smaller tank...?

The hole in mine sits over the post, but doesn't actually hook onto it like the stocker did.

Hi - I've got an 05 Low as well. Bought the Mustang Vintage Solo and had no problems at all. Holes seemed to require a little push/shoving but just a little - seats fits fine and feels great.

Okay... Thanks... maybe they sent the wrong seat in the right box... I will call them tomorrow and see what they say...
I will also try pushing & pulling a little more and see if I can get it to work...
Thank you!

You could do as I did and just take the post off.:tour

My Mustang is packed away where its warm, and the stock seat is out in the cold on my 05 1200 XLC. If I remember right, the Mustang required me to install another post and there is a supplied fitting that screws onto it to hold down the seat. The tounge on the rear pillon then slips into the top of the fitting. This is a Wide Vintage Solo. All parts and instructions came with the seat.

Call Mustang, they are very helpful.

Mine doesn't use the post, just the tab under the tank and the screw on the rear....seems very solid.

Mine didn't have a way of attaching it to the post as far as I could tell.....

YEA !!!
Got it to work... actually got myself to understand it was already working... I finally went and got a high powered flashlight and got down to where I could lift the seat slightly and use the flashlight to see that the hole was going directly over the seatpost... when I tried to look and feel from above it seemed like it was a half to an inch away from the seatpan hole... but when looking from below with enough light and just slightly lifting the seat, I could see that the seatpan hole was lowering right over the seatpost... Perfect fit!!!

So I tightened up the seat and took a test ride... WOW... really comfortable, and it holds me in the seat when accelerating... I always felt like I might blow off the stock seat.

Can't quite flatfoot it now, so I am going to take the advice I saw on another post and add some more sole and heel to my boots...

Yippee!!!
Thanks everyone... now I will work on the pics so I can show you all my pretty bike!

Enjoy your seat! I have the same and it's very comfortable, I can ride all day on that thing.

That said, it wasn't easy to get it on the bike firmly. I have an '02 and I bought my seat used from a guy who had it on another '02. It tucks into the tab underneath easily enough but lining up the bolt with the hole in the fender was ridiculous. I got it on, but I dread when I have to take it off and put it back on.

If the seat wasn't so darn comfy...

Yeah, and I noticed that the road bumps didn't even hurt like they did with the stock seat... I noticed the seatpan on the stock seat had several cracks in it... I wonder if that added to the discomfort...

Anyway, maybe by the time you have to take the seat off.... it will be more broken in and more form-fitting to the frame so it will be easier to get back on... I was even thinking of taking a hair dryer to the plastic to see if it would bend a little more... gee... I'm glad I didn't do that before checking with the flashlight.... :p
But maybe that would work for you if it give you anymore trouble....

Thanks for the ideas. I'll keep them in mind when I have to remove it again.

Your seat does not use the post. If the post is in the way just unscrew it. The nut on the other side will fall to the floor.
If you turn the seat over it should tell you what size tank it fits.
Finally, if the seat does not line up with the rear screw hole lift the rear of the seat while pushing foward. Everything will then line up perfectly. These are very well made seats.

Thanks Sam... I got the seat on and it looks great and most importantly feels great!
What a difference the right seat makes!
Now on to more mods!! ;-)
