How feasible and or competetive would this be..to dump a ton of cash into a sporty to shoot for around a 100hp and track day type handling..or better to just enjoy sporty as is and get a little 600 for track days?

I punt mine around our local go-kart track and can keep all but the really fast guys honest...

I'm going to dual Brembo 4 spots to help with my lack of braking

I'm going to 88" to help with the lack of power and I reckon there ain't gonna be much in front of me.....

You've already got the basics with the S model anyway...

tis now but I'll be going to a 520 chain kit when I got to 88"...
as I'm aiming for 120+ RWHP and I need the reliability of being able to ride a 5000 klm round trip with racing in the middle..... and I've found some good chain lube that doesn't fling off

I'm still on my second belt tho ... at over 80,000 klms

Maxima racing oils .... Chain Wax....

http://www.maximausa.com/products/chainlubes/chainwax.asp

I HATE chain lube everywhere and I was gonna go kickin and screamin to a chain BUT...

After using this on the red wheels of the DUc and having NO residue :) did 7000 kays on that with no visible wear on the chain or sprockets..

The gixxer has had about 5000 on a 520 chain and alloy sprocket and I havnt' needed to adjust the cain yet :) :)

Get a Buell if you want the Sportster sound and performance while being able to have a bike that handles well at the track. Used Buell XB9's are going for $5000 while a used XB12 is closer to $8000.

I don't really care for the buell, but otherwise that would make perfect sense, I just love the look of sporties and would like to make a sporty to spanka buell :)

The Buell has never really done it for me either is a kinda nothing machine really not an all out racer, pretty tame as a streetfighter compared to the jap bikes, too uncomfortable for any real distance riding and too easilly high sided but thats just my opinion ....I'd rather go for one of the many 600's or even a larger japper.

To each his own. Since that is the case, keep your eyes open at motorcycle salvage yards and snag a front end off of one of the jap bikes. The shaft that runs through the frame can be changed if its not the right size. If you can get a complete front end, that'll give you REAK dual disc brakes , a wider front wheel, inverted front end, and maybe guages. I talked to a local salvage yard here a while back and was priced about $1500 for everything. Next step would be a wider swingarm and rear shocks!

I think I paid about $500 for the entire GSXR front end on mine. The biggest hurdle was to have a stem machined. That and converting the controls to 7/8 for the clip on bars.

I plan on drilling the upper triple clamp for risers this winter and putting on 1" drag bars and standard HD controls.
