I'm changing the tire on my 21" front wheel. I inflated the inner tube to correct pressure (30 lbs) to make sure I didn't pinch it- the tube holds air fine, but one side of it (a quarter, actually) is inflated more than the rest of the tube. Not bulging in one spot, like a bubble, but the whole section is bigger in diameter than the rest of the tube Does this mean the tube is faulty? Why would it do this?

I would just replace the whole tube if it seems to be a big problem
just to be safe. Tubes are cheap, nothing worse than a tube holding air
till you put the tire back on and relize it's not holding at all.

BTW- check the rubber rim strip too and make sure all spokes are covered
cause that will pop a tube quicker than anything.

Not a big thing,a new tube when aired may do the same thing.
If it has not been patched before, and shows no sign of deteration, then I would use it.

Thanks guys. Rim strip is fine, tube seems fine. For all I know, it was doing this already while in the original tire, I've just never seen it happen before.

IMO I would replace the tube and rim strip.
Think about 85 mph and having a blowout.
How much is your safety worth?

thats not unusual for a tube, but i cant work out how you could get 30 psi in a tube without it being in a tyre, anyway if your replacing the tire change the tube aswell.
