anyone else agree that the position of the pipes is all wrong ?
i know they are trying to cater for everyone but they really should run "straight" and higher.... IMHO

I partially agree. I am looking for 2 short silencers , black in color, to replace the stock ones. After this I will cover the pipes with black special tape and paint the large pipe in black. ( it is a 2-1-2 exhaust system)
The right side will be much better.

i reckon they should of put on the bubbs or supertrapps ...

Depends on what they are going for.

If only emulating an XR then yes.

If going with current trends in sport-touring and sport bikes, then no.

The pipes & seart are set up to allow for a passenger

they are emulsting the XR !
i know they are set up for passengers but i think for once they should of just gone the whole "hog" ( no pun intended ) and done it properly !!

I wonder how the new Supertrapps for the rubbermounts would fit. That gives the looks and extra power.

That's a good question. Imagine with some ingenuity they would work. Might have to fabricate a hanger

Be nice to see what's behind that heat shield ahead of the mufflers.

Wondering if those tubes aren't merged somewhere? Hard to see if there's a hidden equalizer tube.

Wait 6 months after it hits the showrooms and there will be several exhaust options available. The foot controls and rear brake MC placement will pose some design difficulties fitting XR/flat track style pipes...could be an easy deal for the Supertrapp/Storz pipes. Remove the passenger pegs and you have an instant exhaust hanger bracket.

The bike 'looks' terrific but I see the typical HD bean counter short cuts all over. It's going to take another $1K to get the bike up to the performance level you expect...

With the controls set up high like they are on the prototypes, it appears that many of the 'regular' style v-twin after market pipes will be an easy fit. The V&H Side Shots and Bub side by side pipes look like they'd be right at home.

If I get an XR.....the pipes would be the first thing on my list to change. They look great and have the XR heritage in them. But, I'd still rather have something less sweeping and a little more low key. Black would work....no chrome.

2 into 1 (I think theres the cat) and then into 2 again...
the system is way to low on its lowest part...
lots of press guys already had an accident because of this exhaust...

Just ridden the XR1200 at the Duxford American Aircraft Museum in Cambridge UK. Great ride and it looks much better in the flesh than in pictures, particularly with regard to the pipes. They have a cool satin finish - not bright chrome

The two Pipes merge into one with what looks like a small Catalyst, then they split into 2 and have individual clamps onto the back box (twin pipe section) making the twin pipes seperate. This allows the option of changing the 'twin-pipe' section only - a great aftermarket option..

yeah but I think the downside of this system is that the cat-section is to low to the ground...

An option i am considering just now with mine, is cut into the cat box and remove the guts from it (got a real good mate, Jeff the Welder) this man can do things with steel you wouldn't believe.
The other option is to chop the cat out all together and replace it with a new piece of pipe, and stick some decent mufflers on it. Until something comes on the market that set up a bit better than the stock system....Gonna have to be Supertrapp for me as i intend to do some major work on the motor when i have figured out what parts can be used, XB12 possibly.
Problem I'm having just now is finding someone capable of doing the headwork, no one has seen a set of these heads yet, and its a bit of a pain in the arse that they aint released the bike in the State as their are some real good head jobs (excuse the pun) to be had over there.
matter of fact its a big pain in a lot of ways that the bike paint available over there, as most of the usual suspects that would get involved in performance stuff cant get their hands on one.:doh
Maybe that's part of Harleys thing about not releasing it over there, so they can try and get a head start on performance parts. Who knows!

What do you think a XB has that the XR doesn't? The test stated that it has XB cams. Don't all new Sportsters already have XB heads? The XR has a special air box, probably like a XB. What else? Just wondering.

Ah, my friend, what you have to understand about me is, all my HD's have been big twins both Evo and TC, so the Sportster and Buell range are something i know sod all about.
This is a big learning curve with me, so you must be gentle.
From what i see the heads are different, in as far as they are oil cooled, so it is quite possible they might be in other ways.
I mailed Head-Quarters in Canada today and there answer was, "we know nothing about these heads, we have not seen them and are unable to help you with your inquiry"
As far as the cams and bores, again i am in a position of not knowing, and this is why i am here.
Now i know there ain't a vast amount of knowledge around about the XR, which makes all this a bit difficult.
So bear with me in my ignorance of the Sportster/Buell motor.
but i am a quick learner;)

Brand new to the forum and being from the States, have not seen an XR 1200 in person. If or when, the XR does make it stateside, I will be looking into the Storz/BUB high pipes for Sporters. I like the black ones. Not sure if they will work on the XR, but they were originally designed by Storz and BUB for Storz's XR 1200 kit bike before the Motor Company bought the rights to the name. I like the black ones.

I'm not so sure that the SS's would fit. I have them on my 883c and I seem to think that unless the mount is changed, the rear pipe might be too high (due to the peg/brake) on the XR...but I could be wrong.

Any chance that someone could overlay a 883/1200 with SS's on top of the XR?
