View Full Version : Speeding Tickets?

I recently received two speeding tickets for doing 65 MPH on a highway in California while driving a truck. Trucks are limited to 55 MPH while cars are limited to 65 but usually do 75.
I was riding my Sportster on the 118 fwy at 75 MPH and was passed by a LAPD motorcycle officer who waved.
I just want to see if anyone else is having problems with tickets.

Same here, pulling a trailer in Ca. 55 and right lane only unless passing. I see it all the time, even trailers in the carpool lane. WTF.

Only have one ticket. 85 in a 75 in my truck. I've never been ticketed on the scoot. Which is funny since I don't have a speedometer.

Up here, trucks get away with murder while bikes get hassled. The only things they let us consistently walk on are handlebars and pipes. The NRP (Niagara Regional Police) have a beef with any biker, and pull bikes over any chance they get (they pulled me twice last summer; no charges, no warnings).

The OPP (provincial cops) are another matter. They're moody SOB's towards anyone; one week you can zip by at 135 in a 100 zone (roughly 85 in a 60 zone for you Yanks) and they don't even notice you, while the next week you can get nabbed going 110 (68) on the same stretch of asphalt. 110's nothing up here. The slow lane goes faster than that.

As a side note, I should clarify my vote (1 ticket). I have one on the books (10 years ago, 10 km over limit - $35, no points), and a double-beef that I'm presently fighting. My rep's confident that we can make one (following too closely) go right away, since it's a bogus charge (her words, not mine), and get the speeding cut down to a no-points fine, since it was only because an unmarked cruiser was tailgating me (options were either speed or get rear-ended - no room to change lanes).

I have one right now that I got from a local cop while I was in the cage with the family.

I usually get one every 3 years or so. :frownthre :o

I'm assuming that since the poll question is in the present tense that it's talking about current tickets. I voted "None, I'm lucky as hell". I've had plenty in the past. Been lucky for the past 2 years. I did get pulled over in September by a county cop and told that I have to get a light on my side mount license. He gave me a verbal warning to get it corrected. I'm thinking that's bullshit and am not planning on doing anything with it at the present time.

I seem to get at least one (speeding) a year on the bike:doh
Doing nearly 20K a year all over the place it's hard to avoid.
I can't ride 55! :smoke

The only ticket I got was when I wrecked my '78 Monte Carlo a few summers back.

Haven't gotten anything as far as speeding, wreckless, anything. Although I have been pulled over a few times for burnouts and such, but never a ticket for it.

The last of three or four speeding tickets was a few years ago or so...

Recently decided that I am just not going to rush & hurry anymore... so now I relax, do the limit, and don't worry about having to throw $$$ away for nothing anymore...:cool2

I get one about once a year. But I speed all the time. My uncle hauls gas and can not get a ticket on, are off the job. So he has no choice but to do the speed limit all the time.

Here are a few answers to remember if your friendly "biker with a badge" pulls you over. Remember, these are not good answers:

Q: You know why I pulled you over?
A: You thought I had some Krispy Creme donuts in my saddlebag?

Q: You know why I pulled you over?
A: You can't drive good enough to catch the guy that was speeding in front of me?

Q: You know why I stopped you?
--- just smile and say: "You're a very attractive man."
(During booking, you can always claim you had just seen "Brokeback Mountain.")

If you decide not to illuminate your license plate, one nite when you least expect it (with my luck, it would be after partying with my buds) you'll be pulled over again. Cheaper, safer and a lot less hassle to just illuminate the plate and get it over with. After all it the law....

I got 1 warning for going 65 in a 45, I was out of state and the speed limit had just dropped from 55 to 45, kind of a speed trap I guess, but I was in the car with my family going to visit my parents, so the officer gave a warning and let me go.
The one ticket was for 85 in a 50. Again, we were traveling on a new interstate, beautiful day, and light traffic. Why the speed limit was at 50, who knows, but I was running pretty hard so the state trooper took my license and it cost me about $300 about 10 years ago.

20 over, 14 over, 9 over, 12 over, and 2 over. All but the 9 over and "failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident" were 4+ yrs. ago, and all of these are in the cage.

2 over? Are you kidding me???

That's almost like the time me and friend got pulled over (he was driving). The cop asked how fast we were going, he said 45. Then he asked if we knew what the speed limit was, he again said 45, only we were stopped right in front of a big "Speed Limit 40 mph" sign...I hit his leg and he knew what he'd done. The cop gave a real hard time - in fact there were two of them, but only the one was being an ass - accusing us of having drugs and all kinds of stuff. So he goes back and writes him the ticket. We were on our way to Taco Bell for something to eat. We're having our Chili Cheese burritos and we pull out of the ticket to take a look - the actual speed and the speed limit fields were left blank. When he went to court the Judge got all pissed off and told him he gets about one of these a month.

Thanks for wasting our time. Dumbass.

Caught a break last Summer when a cop (who rode) pulled me over for 77 in a 50. After checking the bike out, he said, - "You know I ride myself - I know it's hard to do the speed limit - just keep it down and get out of here"

That was nice - I'm actually pretty lucky in that way - twice (once in a cage, once on the bike) I got pulled over by and old grammar school friend - no ticket in either case!

None the last few years, but since I've been driving, way too many to count. I've had my license suspended more than once when I was a tad bit younger. Never a DUI, but I've been very close there too. The trick is to dismount away from the officer, keeping the bike between you and him, so he cannot smell your breath so easily.;)

Nowadays, I still ride fast, but I ride and drive a lot smarter. And I don't ride drunk anymore either.:D

No drivers license, no vehicle license and attempting to elude:doh I did break even a few years later when I got away on my '74 Triumph Bonneville 750 but thats another story:tour
The only other one I earned on two wheels was one for following to close after I bounced off a car and almost got run over by the cab behind me. In the cages just the usual speeding, 105 in a 50, 75 in a 45 and a few bogus ones like improper wearing of a seat belt and failing to signal a lane change in a town that rolls up the sidewalks at dark and must have been desperate for the $175 bucks.

Haven't gotten a ticket since I was a 17 but that year I had so many that I was on "first name basis" with the judge and was endager of losing my scoot.:yikes Went over 25 years before I was pulled over for speeding in my Mustang in Washington State. It was late at night and when the female officer came up to my window she just kind of looked at me. I think she was expecting someone much much younger due to the fact that the Stang was slammed, wide tires, body kit, etc. Anyway she asked if I knew how fast I was going ? I replied " can't remember but I am sure it was at least 90" :roflblack After running my license and plates she let me go with a warning ! Been very lucky as I like to "fly low" pretty often.

Nope, haven't been tagged on the Big D. Admittedly, 5-10 years ago, it was merely by luck that I didn't get it (I was in my early 20's - 'nuff said.) Nowadays, it's by choice that I don't qualify for that charge. I figure between people that aren't too fond of me and stupid cagers on cell phones, one of them 'll get me killed. I ain't gonna help them out and do it myself.

I had my first ever speeding ticket a few weeks back - in the cage. Its sad because I never drive over the posted limit, and I'd had an argument with my Mum and wasn't paying attention. I knew the limit dropped to 65, and I lost track of where I was. Right over the other side of the bridge was a speed trap waiting. M*&^%$F&*^^) cop busted me for going 70 in a 65. Right before Christmas too.
I guess its Karma for never having been ticketed all those years when I drove like a bat out of hell, and never got caught.
Luckily the DA let me off with half the fine and a promise not to 'get caught' speeding again within 2 years.

Oh I got stopped one time on my old 50cc scooter. Had to get let off with a warning as it was supposed to be limited to 30mph, didn't bother mentioning to the copper that it didn't limit the speed downhill at WOT. He so wanted to bust me for it. Hahahahah.

2 over? Are you kidding me???

A little unknown fact among drivers. The speed limit is just that, it is a limit. It is the recommended utmost limit that driver should be traveling on the roadway. If you get into an accident you can receive a citation for traveling 10 under the speed limit. It doesnt matter if you are going 2 mph over. If the road conditions do not support the speed and it results in an accident you are traveling too fast for conditions or violation of basic speed in Michigan.

I've lost my license on two seperate occasions while living in the states. I was in college, so def still had a very heavy foot. But in general I do have a problem! The first time round, after receiving my third ticket, I was required to attend driver's education on a Saterday, the whole day. I was so glad to be out of there at 5pm, that I didn't realize I was speeding again until I saw the blue lights in my rearview, lost my license that day!
Have moved back to Amsterdam since then...and have managed to lose my license here once as well!! *can you see a trend here* Before I got my Harley, I had a riceburner, imported it from the US...got it inspected and paid the road tax...and later that week...got pulled over racing a Porsche and lost my license!
But there is hope.
Since purchasing the Harley I've been re-born...and have yet to receive a ticket! I actually prefer to ride slowly...wierd coming from a habitual traffic offender, but true!

Let's see, on bike I was cited twice;
1976: by CHP for 55 in 45 (he couldn't keep up with me to get an actual speed, I must have been doing at least 80. And he didn't see me cross into the bicycle lane on the OTHER side of the road to make the curve... I had a clear view and there was no traffic.) This was on the evening of the day that I received my MSF Instuctors Certificate... I had to go back to work, swing shift in USAF, and we got off early that Friday night...
'81 or '82: ticketed by USAF Law Enforcement types, under the Ca. 'general speed rule'. Since I never sped on base (unless I KNEW there weren't any LE's around, nor traffic on a particular streach of road :D ). I beat that one by writing a truthful report for my commanding officer. Again the 'cops' couldn't keep up with me, but only because their vehicle wasn't able to go fast enough to catch me going 25 in a 25... idiots...

A few times in cage; 71 in a 55 in Az, ?? in a 55 in Nv, and once in Germany on the Autobahn I got tagged for 90k in a 60k. It was a 'work zone' and I had been slowing down, but apparently not quite fast enough. They were supposed to send me the ticket, but I never received it. Probably because I gave a UK address.

Nothing since the German incident and that was in '89.

I got out of a few by being respectful to the cop... never piss off the cop... he can make your day living hell if he wants... ever had your ride (m/c or cage) disassembled to search for drugs??? The cops aren't required to re-assemble the ride... :frownone

Yes..........1966 in San Francisco. I gave too much lip and they impounded my
ride till I paid the towing fees. No ticket but I spent the night in the Drunk Tank.
Only thing off was the tank, seat and headlight. Easy assy in the tow yard.
Tank was empty.....I pushed it 1/2 block and coasted to the 1st Gas Station......LOL.

I haven't had any on the bike yet (thank god), but I sure got a nice one in my cage about two years ago. I was heading in to work later than normal, (I'm a teacher and there was a snow delay of two hours). A [Maryland] state trooper got me with laser doing 82 in a 55 on the D.C. beltway. The kind and understanding gentleman also decided to give me a SECOND ticket for "unreasonable speed," which is descretionary for the officer. So, I ended up paying $210 bucks and got 3 points. This made my insurance jump up, and if I had gotten another ticket of any kind I would have had to take a sort of "driver rehab" class. Points in Maryland come off after two years, so I've been taking it very easy the last two years as you can imagine. I really want to avoid any tickets on the bike, so I generally stay within about 5mph above the speed limit.

I voted for lucky as hell, but compared to the rest of the traffic in Maryland, I might qualify more as an angel. Speed limit is 55 and everybody is doing 70, including the cops. AH cop pulls me over and asks me "Don't you know the speed limit" and I saw '"Obviously not" and I told him I havent had a ticket in over 20 years. He said I was overdue. Guess he was right. 250 bucks and a driving class later I learned to watch the speed limit a little closer!

Of course some tickets are BS and some cops just got jilted by their old lady who ran off with a biker gang. It's not a fair world. BUT, look at what some of you are saying: 47 in a 30 zone? Pretty dumb. You are a prime candidate for a major f-up. You're lucky you got a ticket, not an ambulance ride. The freeway is another story. It's extremely dangerous to try riding a motorcycle there without keeping up or at times exceeding the prevailing speeds. For city streets: grow up, slow down and live long.

Same here, pulling a trailer in Ca. 55 and right lane only unless passing. I see it all the time, even trailers in the carpool lane. WTF.
yep, got caught on this also, cruising along fat dumb and happy. out of state plates. received the standard b/s speech about following the truckers, they will lead you and show you what to do. he said i could ease into the second lane to help traffic get off and on but could not exceed 55 for any reason. ever try to ease over in commuter traffic pulling a trailer? his eyes appeared to be a tad bit glazed from to many donuts. anyway i had 50 miles to go, so i though i would try it out and see what would happen. long story short,it made it dam difficult for traffic to get on and off the freeway. just lucky this old cracker wasn't a victim of road rage.

On my bike, I try to keep within 5 over the limit -- that lets me focus on the things that can kill me (damn cages), not just cost me some money (tickets). Only problem comes in on certain road that are just mayhem -- where cars are going 70 in a 45 and changing lanes like pinballs.

In my youth, from 1983 to 1992, I received anywhere from 10 to 15 tickets, enough to get my license taken away twice, all while driving a car. That's not including the half dozen or so that the cops didn't show up to fight (I fought them all) or they let me go.

I deserved every ticket I received except one. That was when a van passed me on a double lane road (going one way) through town and the cop clocked him instead of me with his radar. I was doing 33 in a 30, while the van was doing 44 (I know that because that's what I got ticketed for ). I think the cop just wanted to try out his new fangled computerized ticket system in his car because it took him 45 minutes to write me a ticket. All I got was a computer printout.

With all that said, I have been really lucky reguardless. I came up over hills at least twice cruising over 90 and encountered cops both times coming up the other side of the hills, two different instances, and they never came after me.

The luckiest I have been was when my friend and I were out drinking and driving my Mustang GT. Well, I let him drive for awhile because he wanted to. Anyway, we were drinking all night and at about 5am, a guy was harassing us because of the foglights on my car (they were quite bright). Well, like dummies, we turned around and followed this guy with our brights on, into a town where the police were known for being "harsh" on anyone who came through their town. Wouldn't ya know, the guy found a cop right away and told him of the situation. We drove by them both and took off towards home.

As soon as we turned down a side road, I pitched the beer bottles out the window and my friend floored it. I can remember blowing stop signs going over 100 and it all seemed like slow motion. I can also remember blowing one stop sign and there was a cop coming up to the road to put a roadblock up. My friend later talked to that cop and he told him he clocked him going 132.

Needless to say, after having a gun pointed in my face after getting caught 1/4 mile from home, I never did anything like that again.

My friend went to jail, lost his license for a year, and the cops just took me home, no tickets, no nothing.

I haven't received any tickets since 1992, but I have been pulled over for many things, mostly made up stuff (by the cops) and a headlight out on my car from hitting a deer. In the month it took to get my car into the shop to get fixed, I bet I was pulled over 10 times, but no tickets.

So, I voted 3 or more. :)

80 mph in a 55 mph zone, closed the door on a LPD officer, passed 3 sobriety tests, given 3 options-option 1 go to court & fight, option 2 pay fine 60.00 + court cost 129.00 + lose 6 of 12 points, option 3 pay court cost 129.00 + 15.00 for traffic school no points lost, 1 evening spent with other law breakers.

Option 3 was the best for me,

In 1970 I brought a right-handed drive fairlady ZL,dohc with six forward,2 reverse? home with me. When pulled over for speeding, officer went to left side where my wife was sitting. He did not notice there was no steering wheel. He asked for her license and proceeded to write up the ticket. My wife told him she was not driving, and he leaned in and noticed no steering wheel on her side. He got so flustered that he slammed the roof, tore up the ticket and sped off. Unfortunately, that was not the last ticket with that car. Drove it for 225,000 miles and sold it for more than I paid for it. :banana

I'm glad I live here in Korea. The only speed enforcement are speed cameras and they only get a picture from the front So all they get a pic of is me waving doing 80. I usually find myself doing the speedlimit in KPH in MPH. If the open hwy is 80 kph I'm doing 80 MPH, 50 kph-50mph etc. etc. Also the traffic cops here are really lazy, the'll sit at a 4way intersection and you can blow it and all they'll do is look at you. They might chase you down and pull you over to get a look at your bike and sit on it.

The basic rule is traffic darwinism.

Well check this out....As a volunteer firefighter I was on call for "night crew" for the ambulance. Had just recently moved out of my girlfriends place, who by the way was a DE State Trooper. Got called out on a "chest pain": call about 2 AM.. Was on the way to the station and ran a red light, with caution of course, when guess who puled in behind me with the lights flashing in the grill ????? Well I did not know it was her, untill she walked up to the car.... Could'nt just keep my mouth such could I ??? NOOOO I had to blurt out " you'd better bring some back up before you ^%&^ with me"...

Well, she pivoted back towards her car, was on the radio...next thing I know 4 more State cars pull up, I'm on the ground and a doggie is barking his butt off just wanting to bite my !#@....

Well it all came out in the wash, all charges were dropped and she got gigged three days pay.....As for the guy with the "chest pains"....he survived because his chect pains were a result of being taized by a county cop while being arrested for drunk and disorderly.....

I did about 15 years on a Police Reserve unit here in So-CAL and up in San Francisco, and one of the quickest ways to ensure you'll get a speeding ticket is openly admit that you knew you were speeding and knew how fast you were going. With your own words, you've proven the case.

If it's a "maybe" issue in the mind of the cop, just never (I mean, NEVER) say you knew how fast you were going above the speed limit. When he asks the proverbial "do you know" question, the best reply is along the lines of: "...actually, I was watching the traffic movement around me, so I hadn't looked at my speedometer."

With this type of reply, you're not lying, just maybe fudging around the issue. You can also indicate that you try to stay safe and maintain good spacing by riding with the flow of traffic. Many times the officer will talk about it with you and in some cases he might give you a break with just a warning. Keep in mind, this won't work for a really blatant speed... the old 60 in a 30, or something like that.

Another little tip to remember, is that many stationary radar units will park just past a posted speed limit sign. This is done primarily because in contested cases, the court wants the officer to prove that drivers would have been aware of what the speed limit was for the road on which the ticket was issued.

:laugh oh god. not making fun of you Gary but you just brought back a memory of when I first got my first 2 tickets. My second speeding ticket in 1 week was just about the same conversation as your's with the same result of course just some different wording by the cop. But my answers were the same.

Yeah that's right 2 tickets in one week and it actually helped by getting them both the same week although none would have been better. First I got a 92 in a 55 while going to school (college) one day. Was going 65 in a 55 but was in the left lane and nobody would let me over and my exit was coming up fast so I sped up to catch the only hole in traffic I could see and by the time I got to it I had to cut across 3 lanes onto the exit ramp almost in one turn. As soon as I got on the exit ramp I see an old beat up (think it was a lemans or something) with one single maybe 4"X4" red light blinking behind me, no sirens just the one light. So I pull over and the cop comes out and asks me why I was going so fast and why I went across 3 lanes of traffic basically all at once. I told him I was late for school and nobody would give me room to change lanes so I had to speed up to get to the one hole I saw. He tells me he should arrest me because going over 25mph over the speed limit is considered reckless endangerment or something like that. Comes back with a ticket for going 74 in a 55 and told me the only reason he did that for me was he didn't feel like filling out all the paperwork if he had to arrest me.
The same week about 2 days later I'm going to allergist and get pulled over for going 60 in a 30 zone. which is the time that Gary reminded me of wear the whole conversation basically went exactly like his did.

Well from getting both tickets in the same week and having to go to court for them also within about a week of each court date. I got the 74 in a 55 (which was really a 92 in a 55) dropped to failure to keep to the right because it was my first ticket and wear I live we have an assistant DA which helps us get the penalties lessoned. Not the fines but the charges so we get less points on our licenses. About 2-3 days later I had the second court date wear the assistant DA had the charges dropped to a seat belt fine because it also looked to them as it was my first ticket because the first court didn't put it in the system yet. SO I lucked out there.

Now I get to go to court this Thursday for an 85 in a 55 I got in Athens NY just above Kingston I believe it is on the NYS throughway. which is my first ticket in the past 6 years. We'll see how this one turns out. I don't care what I pay, they can triple the fine. I just don't want the points because my insurance company will take more money in the long run out of my pocket than the court will in one shot.

Talk about saved by the bell! I was riding home from work last night, on a day I planned to get out early, but ended up doing another 12 hour day (eh, shit happens). So anyway, there I am riding with the flow of traffic, not pushing things, like my good little self (it was the tail end of rush hour. They're doing somewhere around 80-90km/h - 50 to 55mph for you Yanks), when a local Angel rides by, waves at me, and takes off through traffic.

Wanting a little adrenaline rush in an otherwise frustrating day, I take off and follow. We go flying through traffic at 1:censor0 km/h having a ball playing keep up (he had a RK, and a few times I had to slow down to let him catch up ! :D). So he cuts off at his exit, and I keep going, since I'm making phenomenal time. So far, a very fun ride.

About 5 miles from home, traffic's fine, I'm flying like a bat outta hell, and out of nowhere, a whole whack of flashing red lights show up in my rearview mirror. I immediately pull over to the shoulder, knowing I'm a dead man. I stop the bike, and mentally tally up the charges, knowing it'll be an automatic court date. Much to my relief, the SUV and the two squad cars behind it go flying past me on their way to some other problem! Not one even slowed down to look at me! So, I did what any self-respecting biker would do; I got the bike back up to 1:censor0 and flew the rest of the way home, loving every minute of it! What a good end to an otherwise crappy day!

The good thing about Korea is that traffic enforcement is almost non-existant. Spped cameras that take a pic of the front and speed bump heaven here keep the speed down. I usually find myself doing in MPH what the speed limit is in KPH. The main Highways here have a 80 kph limit and I'm usually running 80 mph (close since I have no more speedo). The interstates are 100 and 110 kph but motorcycles aren't allowed, they had a !!!!ing cow when I pulled on the freeway from Incheon airport (the only way off the island) when I flew my electraglide over here.

I figure a post on tickets would make a good first reply for this nub. My tickets through the years have been... well, not so good, all but one in
cages tho.

At 12 it was a ticket for operating a non-street vehicle on on a public road, was riding the quad to the track. No License when I was 14, 'borrowed' my grandmothers car and went for a joyride, got off the minor speeding violation and was brought home. 75 in a 25 right after i got my license, impressing girls with stupid moves is fun.

Got off some major ones, including 142 in a 55 zone, and 123 in a 65... got thrown out of court and knew the officer respectively... couple of unsafe turns, and my last one was a speed contest charge in the state of NV.. and that was 3 years ago.

No more tickets for me thankfully, I think i temporarily left that stage.

I was riding on the freeway through farm country in Eastern Washington when I noticed 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, cars pulled over by troopers. Obviously a speed trap, but at this point I was thinking no problem as surely every officer in that town must be occupied. Unfortunately for me they had at least one more. No question about it I was doing 80 in a 70mph zone. Got a ticket for around 100 dollars. Im always careful now when riding through the area and have not seen multiple pull overs in the area since. Lucky as hell!!! Riding through a small village earlier this year, the two cars in front pulled over allowing me to pass, so I did. Unfortunately I crossed over some chevrons just as a patrol car was passing in the opposite direction (how I didn't see him, god only knows) he immediately flicked his lights on and started to manouvre the car in a nearby side road to turn around. I turned the throttle back a little harder (only about 55mph) and headed towards the next town, where I pulled into a supermarket car park to see the patrol car pass at speed, thankfully. Pulled out then rode home in the opposite direction of the patrol car. Was uneasy for the next few days incase the cop had recorded my license plate...... 5 months later..... I guess I,m in the clear.

many on 4. however, none since 1990 or so, and that was AZ, "wasting fuel" ticket for doing 72 in a 70. cost $35. Non-moving violation.
Prior to a PCS move to Okinawa I was ticketed on I-10 in the middle of El Paso for 122 in a 55. That was in October of 1976. Had to get a loan to pay it off. Let's see: $2 a mph to 70; $5 a mph to 80; $25 a mph to 100 and $100 a MPH over 100. Cop didn't take either me or the fella in Cobra Jet in because we pulled over and waited for him as soon as we saw his lights come on. Oh ya, $13.50 court cost!

Never got a speeding ticket on my bikes, been riding them for 9 years now.

I've gotten a few tickets here and there in my car for speeding, all driving cross country. Its hard to drive the speed limit when you know its making a 3-4 hour difference in driving time. Thing is, speeding in WI sucks. If I can remember the numbers from my last 2 speeding tickets:

1998: 113 mph on I90/94 = around $450 on the spot (lucky I slowed down before he clocked me :P.. in the Buick no less)
2004: 80mph on 43 = around $200

I usually get about 1-2 per year. I just do either defensivedriving.com or get deferred adjudication (sp?)

I was in a habit of pretty much putting my gas pedal on the floor for a while back in my late 20's. I came up behind a Lincoln that was doing about 90 (55 mph road). I decided to pass him and resume my normal 120. Got past him and on the other lane (2 lane road) a group of about 5 cars passes me, and my radar detector goes off. Damn cop was in the middle of them. I just went ahead and pulled over at the bottom of the hill. The cop had to safely pull out of that pack, which took him some time. He came barreling over that hill, and about had to slam on the brakes to slow down in time to stop behind me. I was sitting on the fender of the car. He walks up, trying not to grin, and says, "Do you know how fast you were going?" I said, "I don't know but it was at least 100." He then couldn't help but grin. I said, "Look dude, you got me. I was playing with it." He starts chuckling and says, "Yeah, you put fuel injection in these things and they go fast!" I said, "You're right!" He says, "Tell you what. I don't want to have to take you to jail, so I'm gonna write you a ticket for 75." I said, "Thank you, sir." Then I took the ticket to some friends of my parents who were in government in Louisiana, and got it fixed.

Another time, I got a ticket in a tiny town in Louisiana. I went to city hall to see if I could talk to the DA about keeping it off my record. Long story short...I ended up talking to the Mayor! I had to wait till he got back from buying pigs.... After about 2 hours of BSing with the mayor, he said, "Son, I'll tell you what I'm gonna do." as he kicks his feet off the desk and swings forward. He snatches the ticket up, opens his drawer, and stuffs the ticket into the drawer and slams it. He says, "I'm gonna keep this ticket in my drawer for 6 months. If you get another ticket in my town in that time I'm gonna make sure both of them are on your record. If you don't I'll throw this one away!" I made sure I didn't speed through "his" town for a long time!

One ticket was quite enough. Noting irritates me more than h aving to pay a ticket. You can get the same sensation by taking a hundred dollar bill and flushing it down the crapper.

AMEN!!!
3 years ago my man was late for work. Got nailed going 110km in a 50km on a Buell lightning XB12R. Automatic court appearance. Paid a lawyer $200 bucks to help him out, so he wouldn't lose his license. Got the charge down to 99km in a 50km. Paid a $450 fine plus 4 points on his licence. For the next 3 YEARS he paid $2300/ year extra on his insurance because this was his fourth ticket. (the rest were all minor)

Total cost of speeding in this case: $7550! He could have bought another damn bike for that!! :doh

I have never had a ticket, ever.

Just went to trial today on a handful of charges, all stemming from one incident. My counsel reiterated our offer to the Crown Attorney of paying the fines, but no points, and she turned us down. Well, as it turns out, the cop who charged me has been transferred to Bracebridge, and despite a subpoena issued to him, did not show. The prosecution opened her case by stating "due to the absence of Officer ______, despite a subpoena, the prosecution has no evidence." They had no choice but to let me go. I was the first one of the day (and my case didn't see the bench until about noon) that wasn't found guilty on all charges. I was surprised that he didn't show, either. After the...um...er..."animiated" conversation between us, if I were him, I'd have quit my job just to make sure I was there. Fortunately, it happened almost a year and a half ago, so he obviously wasn't so fired up about it now as he was on that dark December morning. I still was, though. I thought they were crap charges, and I was determined to fight them tooth and nail. Good thing I did!

All day, I've had this grade niner "I-just-got-laid" look on my face! Plus, despite what was supposed to be massive thunderstorms today, we've had great weather, so for the rest of my day off, I went for a nice, sunny ride! Not guilty, no rain, and a fun ride. Could life get any better? ...sorry, let me clarify. Barring a successful attempt to hook up with that little drop-dead gorgeous Vietnamese programmer at work, could life get any better? :D

NOT F___ING GUILTY!!! WOO HOO!!!

I did get pulled over once, rt1 near the beach, doing 60 somthing in a 45. No ticket just a check on papers and told to slow down. I think I was just a easy target to get everyones attention. No bigge, cop was cool, asked me how many miles I had on it, he knew it was at least an '04 so he asked if I rode much, think it was 20k last summer.

I got my first ticket in years last Summer. I was going across the N Cali desert - my speedo showed well above 80... Radared at 86 mph - the CHP officer was really cool, we talked alot all the time that he was waiting for radio responses and while he wrote the ticket. He wrote me up for 75 in a 65 zone - told me that it was getting dusk, gotta watch out for the deer and the coyotes...

I have a feeling he was as nice as he was because I had all my gear on, registration & proof of insurance handy, and didn't give him a bad time. I always figure that they're just doing their job - most cops aren't a$$holes.

I haven't yet built up enough confidence or skills to ride aggressively in the 40days since completing the MFS course. It is interesting that I see more police cars when riding the bike than when driving a car. Almost every ride will show a police car in my mirrors for a short distance.

I've never been ticketed or even stopped for speeding on a motorcycle, and the last one I got with the car was over 2 years ago. I tend to follow speed laws a little more closely with the bike for some reason.

My record was 13 tickets in 1 year. I kept expecting them to pull my license or send me to jail for a weekend, but it never happend. All I did was send in the money for the ticket as I got them, no court dates or nothin.

In my lifetime I have probably spent as much on tickets and drivers safety courses to pay for another used sport bike to get in trouble with. Nowadays with a wife and 2 kids, well I havent gotten a ticket in years and drive a sportster instead of a crotch rocket.

But man some days I miss the feelin.
