Hello,

I was wondering what tire sizes people are running on their pre-2000 Buells.

When I got my White Lightning this past summer the dealer threw in a new tire. The size is 190/50ZR17. I haven't installed it yet. Don't know if that will clear without pushing the sprockets out a bit.

So has anyone put on a 190 tire, or bigger?

Thanks

Buell castalloy or Marchesini wheels are 4-1/2" wide, and most folks don't go past the stock 170/60 on those.

The PM wheels are 5" wide and lots of people put 180's onto them.

A few folks put 190's on their PM's (just like a few people put 180's on their castalloys) but it's wrong for the rim. The 190 also gets too close to the belt.

I believe I have a 5" rim. I will be putting this on a special construction chopper project that uses the stock swing arm and wheel. I have seen other chopper projects that use 200's on stock rims. Why is this bad?

Thanks,
Peter

Thanks to whoever can answer :D :D

Those are the Buell castalloy rims. 170/60ZR17 is the proper size for those. Go bigger and the sidewalls are pulled in and the contour of the tire isn't right anymore, for optimum handling or wear.
